Finally decided to finish this off. I was originally going to count down the top 20 each with a video and comment, but TOO MUCH EFFORT on my behalf I'm afraid, so this'll have to do -_-

Anywayz, here are numbers 20 - 11...

20. Hadouken! – Declaration of War

19. The Kills – Cheap and Cheerful

18. Vampire Weekend – Oxford Comma

17. Elbow - Grounds For Divorce

16. Radiohead – Nude

15. Foals - Cassius

14. Glasvegas - Daddy’s Gone

13. The Killers - Human

12. Kings of Leon – Use Somebody

11. Britney Spears - Womanizer

Many of these artists have albums in my top 20 of 2008 also. Hadouken, Vampire Weekend, Foals and Glasvegas are four bands which I really got into in 2008, although some of them had released material in 2007. Declaration of War was instant for me and after their 2007 mixtape, 'Not Here To Please You' I was really anticipating their debut album - and it didn't dissapoint. The Kills were a band that I had heard of before but had never really taken notice of until 2008 - but what a band! Seriously cannot recommend 'Midnight Boom' enough - although they'd had two albums out previously (which are also worth checking out btw) this is the first album of theirs I bought and 2nd single Cheap and Cheerful really stood out for me, hence its inclusion in this countdown.

The rest of the songs in this section are from returning acts. Elbow is another band I had not really paid attention to until 2008, but as soon as I heard 'Grounds for Divorce' I was hooked. I'm still not too keen on the album, but I absolutely adore GFD. I can't really put my love for 'Nude' into words, so I won't. Just beautiful. The Killers and Kings of Leon had always been some of my favourite artists and so I was really anticipating their comebacks...with the Killers I can't help feeling anything but disappointment sadly, this 'era' is definitely not up to their usual standard and when I first heard 'Human' I was sure it would be my top song of 2008, but after a while it just gets a bit...boring. Way overplayed for me. Kings of Leon didn't disappoint as much and Use Somebody is a brilliant track, I think I probably prefer it to Sex on Fire now, but it's not as high up as my Sex on Fire was just massive for me over the summer

Last but by no means least in this section is a BIG surprise for me. Britney Spears just missing out on my top 10 songs of the year?! That's something I never thought would happen. Yes, she's come out with some brilliant pop songs, but I never thought I'd love one of them as much as I love Womanizer. I don't even know what it is about the song that I love so much but it's just so catchy and unavoidable. I'm still not bored of it, even though it's my 3rd most played song on my Last.fm :o

So here they are, my top 10 songs of 2008! :o

Facts:

1 of them reached #1 in the UK charts

2 reached top5

2 reached top 10

1 reached top 20

1 reached top 30

2 reached top 40

And 1 wasn’t technically even released! :o

There are two artists with two songs in the top 10

And two other artists have had other songs in my chart lower down.

Any guesses?

14. Glasvegas - Daddy’s Gone

13. The Killers - Human

12. Kings of Leon – Use Somebody

11. Britney Spears - Womanizer

:cheer: That's the order I prefer those songs too 11-14  Gutted Britney wasn't Top 10, but at least she's charted TBH! :o

Thanks for the comment Jonjo, Britney was incredibly close to the top 10 tbh!

Here are numbers 10 - 6:

10. MGMT - Kids

So MGMT kick off the top 10 with the 3rd single from their debut album, 'Oracular Spectacular'. Although not doing incredibly well in the UK charts, it has stuck around for quite a while and has just entered the top 40 for the second time, thanks to an advert for Waterloo Road! :o

As with 'Human', I'm afraid I overplayed this when I first heard it (after buying the album) and therefore its position in my chart has suffered somewhat. :(

09. Bloc Party - Mercury

When I heard this for the 1st time I was like...SERIOUSLY WTF??? They produce two brilliant albums and then they come out with this?! But after a couple of listens I realised the brilliance of it and it firmly secured their position at the top of my favourite artists

Plus: Jonjo, have you noticed there's a lyric written about you? :o ..."JohnJo's in Sydney and he ain't returning".

SHOCKER!

08. The Last Shadow Puppets - Age of the Understatement

What an absolute GEM! Still absolutely adore this song. Not much I can say really, except that when I first heard of Alex Turner's collaboration with Miles Kane I feared the worst and never expected anything this good in a million years! Fully deserving of the Mercury nomination

07. Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire

Well, Kings of Leon have already had one song in the top 20, with the fantastic 'Use Somebody', but this song really deserved a higher placing in my end of year chart, as it was pretty much the soundtrack to my summer. (Not the lyrics, just my love of this song :naughty:) Another band who truly deserve the success, although I think they deserved it much more with their last album, 'Because of the Times', which imo is far superior to 'Only By the Night'.

06. Kanye West – Love Lockdown

Just missing out on the top 5 is Kanye, who, in 2008 cemented his place in my top 10 artists of all time. After the slightly disappointing 'Graduation' era, he comes back with this BLINDER of a song and one of my albums of the year also, '808s and Heartbreak'. This is another song for which I can't explain my love towards, but it's just...epic really. And the video fits it PERFECTLY!

So, just 5 songs to go. Any ideas?!

05. MGMT – Time to Pretend

Well here’s the second entry from MGMT in the top 10 and this is definitely my favourite of theirs. Electric Feel or Kids don’t even compare to the amazingness of this imo, it’s just a shame the album isn’t too great L

04. Hot Chip - Ready for the Floor

DO IT, DO IT, DO IT, DO IT, DO IT, DO IT, DO IT NOW

God this a catchy tune If I ever heard one! Bloody fantastic in fact and extremely worthy of a top 5 placing. I thought they’d never top ‘Over and Over’ tbh but they definitely proved me wrong with ‘Ready For The Floor’. Another album which wasn’t up to that much though, sadly L

Like all 'cept Bloc Party :o

now that is such a lie.

Bloc Party is the best one there tbh.

So here are the final three...my top 3 songs of 2008:

03. Bloc Party - Talons

Absolutely phenomenal song from Bloc Party (my favourite band of course), who've already had one song, Mercury in the top 10. This song has been played so many times by me and I'm still not bored of it - definitely in my top 5 favourite Bloc Party songs and that really is saying something!

02. Santogold, Pharrell Williams & Julian Casablancas - My Drive Thru

Now this may be a bit of a surprise to some (or then again, maybe not :P) but this song, which was not actually a single, but used for Converse's 100th anniversary really captured my attention in 2008. Three of my favourite acts in one song and it really is even better than I thought it would be. Love this to bits

And so my #1 song of 2008 is.....

01. Biffy Clyro - Mountains

MON THE BIFF!

2007's 'Puzzle' brought back my love for Biffy and this non-album song cemented them further in my top 5 artists of all time.

The piano breakdown in the middle makes me smile every time I hear it - WONDERFUL.

Really pleased this did so well for them. Simply brilliant.

bring back old biff imo, before they went mainstream, back in the team biffy days when we chanted 'biffy' over and over before they came on stage. :(

I think Glitter and Trauma is their best song from earlier on. Along with 27 and Justboy

I bet Talons will be #1 :teresa:

NEARLY!

Great #1, my favourite Biffy track

Thanks.

Absolutely love Mountains (pretty obvious I suppose!)

And thanks for commenting throughout my chart btw -_-

57, justboy are the best songs, then hero management and hero discovery invention, f*** it just the whole of Blackened Sky they went well downhill with Puzzle :( apparently they dont even have mosh's at their gigs now, tears my heart in two.
