Posted December 24, 200816 yr Zavvi placed into administration Music, games and DVD chain Zavvi has gone into administration, Ernst & Young has announced, threatening 2,500 jobs. The troubled chain has been badly affected by the demise of Woolworths, which forced it to stop taking new orders via its website. It was also forced to cancel existing orders. Zavvi's main supplier is Woolworths' unit Entertainment UK. Tea and coffee specialist Whittards and menswear chain The Officers Club also fell into administration this week. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6386153.stm
December 24, 200816 yr Author I honestly do not see them finding a buyer. Virgin sold up because it was a failing brand. Who's honestly going to take it on now?
December 24, 200816 yr Whittards is out of administration now..It found a buyer in a day. I knew it would though, That shop can easily be turned around. Zavvi,however..I can't see them finding a buyer..Unless Play.com decide to start having high street stores at internet prices.. I think it's pretty much over for high street entertainment stores..The internet is taking all the trade.. Officer's club..I'm sorry but it should have gone a long time ago..I never see anything in there I like!
December 24, 200816 yr Jeez, :o another one bites the dust, that's a big loss of jobs, how is the country meant to recover and a big blow to the music industry. I can see record sales taking a big tumble next year.
December 24, 200816 yr Own town is going to look so empty next year.. Woolies has gone, Zavvi looks like it's going..Officer's club... Loads of smaller stores have already gone, we also lost Early Learning Center due to bad trade..When a shop goes it seems to take about a Year for a new shop to appear sometimes longer... I honestly think that the High Street will end up a housing estate very soon!
December 24, 200816 yr People are saying HMV is in trouble tooo! Really!?! Well that's it then for the music industry! Looks like Play.com & Cdwow etc...Will be cashing in!
December 24, 200816 yr Everyone should be buying CD's a and DVD's off the net anyways, High St is an outdated concept with its ridiculous prices compared with the net With even kids having debit cards and Visa top up cards there is no excuse not to be buying online I would happily see the back of HMV, outside of chart cd's they charge like £15-16 for a CD :manson:
December 24, 200816 yr Looks like Play.com Good spent over £800 with them this year and got everything delivered nice and quick and at prices that the High St were not charging Good riddance to High St music and DVD stores, bunch of thieves
December 24, 200816 yr Would be a shame if HMV went into administration! But, yeah, I've bought quite a lot of stuff off Play, great delivery, great prices. But, I wouldnt want to buy tickets, but have you seen the tickets they sell on there, way overpriced!! But, back on topic, nobody will want to buy Zavvi.

Apart from the odd impulse purchase of a CD or DVD when i go to Sainsbury's/ Asda I order everything off Play.com now I earn decent money so there is not the same pressures on me compared with say a teenager but I just refuse to be ripped off with crazy prices for anything so yeah I kind of like it seeing companies that have ripped us off for years and fleeced us finding out that karma is a b**ch
December 24, 200816 yr If it wasn't for BJ i would have never heard of Zavvi, never heard of the other two either. Good spent over £800 with them this year and got everything delivered nice and quick and at prices that the High St were not charging Good riddance to High St music and DVD stores, bunch of thieves Well high streets have to pay for physical costs like extra staff, lighting, heating, infastructure etc. Play.com will just have a large warehouse.
December 24, 200816 yr Zavvi,however..I can't see them finding a buyer..Unless Play.com decide to start having high street stores at internet prices.. Love that idea! But it will never happen... I just can't see HMV going into administration. Zavvi, well, we knew it was coming for a while. I just hope that the High Street isn't empty by this time next year.

Well high streets have to pay for physical costs like extra staff, lighting, heating, infastructure etc. Play.com will just have a large warehouse. That warehouse will need pickers, packers, drivers, heating, lighting, rent per sq m and so on, and Play can still throw in free delivery so absorb postage costs and so on
December 24, 200816 yr Really!?! Well that's it then for the music industry! At this rate, the only shops you'll be able to buy CD's in will be supermarkets. :(
December 24, 200816 yr high street is the best cause you can actually see and feel and try on the things you buy before purchasing, HMV will stay open cause they are the only ones left and everyone will shop there for non commercial and old music as it's the only place i can find it, supermarkets only sell the latest hits.
December 24, 200816 yr It doesn't look very rosy for the single market though, downloads will soon have 100% control over the singles chart, hence a new chart, instead of a combined chart we have a Download Singles chart, it looks very worrying. The iTunes thread will become the mid chart
