Posted December 27, 200816 yr apparently teachers are now being stopped from marking kids work in red pen, because it might upset them!!! UTTER BOLLOX! what pc idiot came up with this ridiculous notion?... gotta rank as one of the biggest load of bull$h!t EVER. what difference does it make if theres a red cross or a blue, black, pink, yellow or whatever cross?... kids need to get used to the fact that sometimes we as humans GET IT WRONG! besides its not only incorrect answers that are marked in red, its correct ones (ticks) too!!! red is sensible as it stands out.
December 27, 200816 yr  Red stands out as pupils are usually only allowed to write in blue or black. I mean what do they want, a green tick, with a smiley sticker everytime they get something right -_-
December 27, 200816 yr I totally agree. But what the University educated liberal do gooders think, goes with the New Labour unelected autocrats. Little wonder the UK has more public sector workers (than Russia FFS!!!) on gold plated pensions whom can retire on Final salary schemes at the age of 60 who are uselessly inefficient and devoid of plain common sense when it comes to their jobs. Whilst the rest of us in the private sector have to work to 67 to pay for their golden payoffs; all whilst Gordon "Prudent my arse steal from our Pensions and sold off half the UK Gold Reserves at a rock bottom $175 when they are now worth $800 whose policies have led the UK into a worse position to cope with the recession than the rest of Europe; thanks to policies that are devaluing the £ and hence what we own is worth outside of the UK" Brown" have to pay for the public sector's superior pension schemes; all the single mums & their chav alcoholic drug taking dads; all the lazy fat skiving work shy ba$tards claiming invalidity benefit when there is feck all wrong with them (in percentage terms it has risen 273% under New labour); and all the net immigration under new Labour into soft touch Britain (up 2.83 million under New Labour (according to Migration Watch); all whilst the number of people in employment within the Private sector has SHRUNK since 1997; thanks largely to New Labour's policies vastly increasing the amount of red tape employers have to folliw; strangling enterprise to ensure diversity targets are met; etc. Little wonder Britain is going down the pan.

December 27, 200816 yr WTF? LOL! So what is this "illegal" (not so much illegal but you know what i mean) or just frowned upon now? Next time i see red pen i can now tell my teacher to stick it ^_^ lol But this is ridiculous how/why would a red pen make a child act any differently??? Its totally just =/ It just stands out more.. Im guessing this means the end for the red stop sign and traffic lights too

God, Rich, you make so many sweeping generalisations there, it's hard to know where to begin, Still, it was an entertaining read... A bit like Alf Garnett in overdrive.... For a start, Public Sector workers are, in general, pretty poorly paid in comparison to Private sector workers while they are in work, so I guess a "gold plated" Final Salary pension scheme is kinda to make up for that fact. As for the generalisation that Public sector workers are "uselessly inefficient..", I dont agree with that, much of the time Public Sector workers are merely working within the parameters and regs set up by their bureaucracies, it's not that they dont want to do stuff that may seem more "common sense", it is more that often they are unable to because they'd get a bollocking from their bosses, and given the increasingly litigious society we live in now, well, common sense is becoming a rarer commodity by the day thanks to fukkin' ambulance-chasing, scumbag lawyers (usually from the PRIVATE sector from companies such as Injurylawyers4U... :P ) who'll sue (or should that be "screw") anyone for a percentage... And frankly I'm not even sure what the hell Chavvy, work-shy alcoholics, immigrants or single mums have to do with the public sector pension schemes or whether teachers write in red pen or not.... As for the issue itself... Of course the whole "red pen" thing is nonsense.... The reasons for using a red pen whilst marking should be obvious - it stands out, it's very clear and noticeable, and I'm not even aware of it actually upsetting anyone tbh.... Good results are written in red ink as well....
December 27, 200816 yr I mean what do they want, a green tick, with a smiley sticker everytime they get something right -_- Er, when I was a kid, we got silver and gold stars for doing good work on class tests and stuff.....

December 27, 200816 yr Utterly insane :manson: Next thing teachers will get told to mark all work with ticks regardless of whether the answers are right or wrong in order not to upset the kids  kids have to learn that it is a tough world out there and that much of life is going to be about failure as well as success Its the same $h!t with Labour clamping down on competitive sports in schools because some kids might lose
December 27, 200816 yr Its the same $h!t with Labour clamping down on competitive sports in schools because some kids might lose In certain ways I can understand that.... God forbid we ever end up with a High School system like the US which places more emphasis on competitive sports or physical prowess rather than academic achievement as the US system does.... And god forbid we have the likes of fukkin' McDonalds coming in and "sponsoring" our schools as well.... Who the fukk wants that sh!t....?

Life is all about hard knocks mate and tough times and part of that is that kids have to learn about losing be it at sports, job applications or whatever, not everything is going to go smoothly in life so kids have to learn how to lose aswell hence why competitive sports is a good thing Otherwise we are just going to breed a generation of wimps who can't handle pressure with all the associated problems such as alcohol addiction, mental disorder suicides and so on, it is right that schools should teach kids about failure and sports are one good way as not everyone going to be on the winning side
December 27, 200816 yr I think the "Emo" generation, binge drinking and so on is as a direct result of Labour policies in schools of of teaching that everyone is a winner and no one is a failure such as clamping down on sports and thus when kids get pressure and start failing in the big bad world they can't handle it thus "emo" crying, binge drinking and so on Through a combination of health and safety, political correctness, labour mantra of everyone's a winner, media hysteria about paedophilia etc we are breeding a generation that is ill equipped for the outside world Kids these days by and large are ferried to school by car, not allowed to play the sort of games our generation did because of health and safety $h!t, get exams dumbed down and % reduced so that grades will be ok, get given a Playstation and X Box so that they won't be jumped on by a paedophile lurking behind a bush, are not allowed in most schools to play competitive sports and so on and all of that is creating a generation lacking in physical fitness and the mental toughness needed to cope with the outside world hence the rise in self harm, binge drinking and teen suicides, kids have to be taught at an early age that there is golng to be failure in life, I am convinced the problems that I mentioned above like binge drinking are as a direct result of kids not being able to handle pressure and failure because they are not conditioned to at school Edited December 27, 200816 yr by B.A Baracus

For a start, "Emo" is an American phenomenon, and like every-fukkin-thing else American, it seems to end up here.... For the past 8 years in the US, you've had Bush and his macho, war-mongering cronies, so how, exactly does that fit in to your idea....? The US school system which places FAR too much emphasis on sports at the expense of Acadamic achievement has resulted in a far worse nightmare of depression, teen suicide and drug/alcohol/prescription drug addiction, the "jocks" are all taking fukkin' STEROIDS to compete, succumbing to "roid rage" which heightens aggression which is leading more and more to abuse and rape of schoolgirls and college co-eds, and this steroid abuse being encouraged in a lot of cases by overly-ambitious sporting coaches who see dollar signs instead of actually having any fukkin' regards to the health and safety of the kids under their care; and a hell of a lot of the other kids in US schools are all hooked on fukkin' PROZAC... In the US, if you're not "popular" you are marginalised, hated, ridiculed, bullied and pretty much tortured.... Yeah, such a fukkin' healthy system Craig..... Oh, and then you get the added "bonus" of things like the Columbine Massacre..... GREAT.... Yeah, man, let's have our education system more like the fukkin' American one...... <_<

But, by the same token, a LOT of this should be getting sorted out by PARENTS, not the schools.... Competitive sports should be there for those who want to take part sure, but it should NOT be at the expense of learning, vocational (ie, learning a trade) or academic pursuits, which is ostensibly what a school is or should be there for.... And I totally agree with you on the exam front certainly, I mean, a little while ago me and a few others were having an argument about Harry fukkin' Potter being allowed on the A-Level English Lit syllabus.... I mean, NO WAY should it be considered an A-Level subject IMHO..... But then, all this dumbing down of the % levels is, if you ask me, just to present a false picture for the fukkin' League Tables and to make it appear that one school is 'better' than another....

NO, because we were conditoned to handle pressure and failure because we took part in sports and played rough tough games for instance both in and out of school

It's a pretty simple equation innit - "the easier the exam, the more passes, the more passes, the better our school looks in the League Tables".... The problem also is lack of discipline in the home and the gradual erosion of the authority of teachers to be able to effectively deal with unruly kids.... Given what is going on in the streets today, a "game" of British Bulldog or Kiss Chase can easily turn into something WAY more sinister and nasty.....
December 27, 200816 yr If true it is pretty ridiculous.... :| Regarding Craig's winners and losers argument, last year my brothers school reached the final of the football cup, the game was drawn. Extra time? Oh no. Penalties? Ha! But a SHARED TROPHY! It beggars belief!
December 27, 200816 yr About time! The last time a teacher marked my book in red pen I couldn't enter her class for weeks, I was so upset. :(
December 27, 200816 yr I think this is a good idea! When I was in school, I spent weeks writing this dissertation for Modern Studies and then got it back covered in red pen and spent the rest of the year wanting to die and decided not to go to university because those red pen marks made me realise I was too stupid for university. You could say the red pen pretty much ruined my life. Also, red is the colour of blood. Ridiculous! I'd be interested to know their reasoning, presuming they have something more solid than "red is the colour of blood". Doubt they do though! Edited December 27, 200816 yr by steph

Apparantly it signifies "violence/murder". Blue signifies "Suicide" and Green symbolises "Jealousy", which leaves Black And White ^_^ . Though that could be deemed racist so soon there will be multicoloured Rainbow pens that automatically changes colour every word so everyone is happy :) . I only made up the last sentence, btw :P
