Possibly. I think they could sustain themselves actually.

- U2 will have a number one single and album.

Quite possibly.

- Eminem's album will be number one but it will be Dido style eg. the album will then fall and flop

No chance. Eminem's a dead dog.

- Alexandra Burke's debut album will beat Leona's record for debut album

I think she'll do very well. I'd be extremely surprised if she topped Leona's debut album though. Let's not forget that Leona's success was absolutely gargantuan.

- Aerosmith will go to number one in the album's following Metallica and AC/DC

I think Aerosmith will, indeed, go number one.

- McFly will split in around May time

Impossible to say.

- Green Day will return with a Kings of Leon style comeback massive single and massive album.

They'll have a big comeback, without doubt.

- Mika will return and flop

I think Mika has taken his time over this second album and I feel as though it could be just as huge as his first one. Let's hope he does well, anyway!

Anyway, here are my hot tips for 2009:

- Florence & The Machine

. Let's get the obvious out of the way first. They've already won the Brit Awards' prestigious "Critics' Choice Award" so Florence is guaranteed some success. 'Dog Days Are Over' showcased the immense talents that the band have to offer. Florence is in the mould of Kate Nash; except Florence is actually good.

- VV Brown

. Vanessa Brown has got to be THE one to look out for next year. With an amazing voice and some rather hot records to go with it, what could possibly go wrong? "Crying Blood" was released on 7” a couple of months ago and signalled the awesome potential of this girl. Sure to do well next year.

- Jay Jay Pistolet

. He has already shone in debut single "Happy Birthday You" and it is certainly possible that 2009 could be Jay's breakthrough year. A fantastic singer/songwriter.

- Esser

. Original and cutting-edge are words banded about all too easily these days, but Esser is deserving of such attributions. 2008 has been a reasonably good year for him with "Satisfied" and "Headlock" both making waves. "Work It Out" is next up for early next year and could be a big'un.

- Lady GaGa

. The first number one of 2009, methinks. Ms. GaGa will be pop personified next year.

- Little Boots

. If you like Alphabeat, you'll love Little Boots. Hotter than hot.

- Noisettes

. As far as I'm concerned, Noisettes squeezed one of the best songs of the year out for 2008, albeit late on - the single being released on December 29th. "Wild Young Hearts" is followed by their new album and 2009 could be their year.

- La Roux

. A listen to La Roux defines what 2009's chart will probably sound like.

- The Temper Trap

. The Temper Trap could well restore some decent indie to the charts next year.

- Frankmusic

. Frankmusic's catchy sound is sure to have you all on your feet next year.

- Ava Leigh

. This girl's rather an anomaly. She's a Bob Marley influenced ska/reggae singer, yet she's a blonde Cheshire lass. Her refreshing sound could do well next year.

- Laura Izibor

. Laura Izibvor, Ireland's answer to Aretha Franklin, certainly deserves success next year. Let's hope she gets it!

- Jem

. The rather odd little Welsh girl Jem, who had a hit with that equally odd track 'They', returns early next year. What you may not know, however, is that she returns off the back of massive chart success across the pond. From the soundtrack of the 'Sex and the City' movie, 'It's Amazing' kicks things off on January 19th.

- Paula DeAnda

. Paula has been on the scene for a while in the USA and her ridiculously catchy RnB/pop sounds could well make a mark on the UK charts next year too. Look out for 'Stunned Out', featuring Yung Joc.

- Johnny Foreigner

. A rather cool little band hit our airwaves with "DJs Get Doubts" early next year, after having some success with their debut album. In the mould of Noah & The Whale.

- The Rifles

. The Rifles have plundered along for some time without quite ever gaining quite the recognition they deserve. Perhaps the release of their new album, coupled with the excellent "Fall To Sorrow" will help them on to Radio 1's playlist.

- Red Light Company

. Another excellent band to emerge in 2008, Red Light Company could go on to even bigger things in '09.

- Lisa Mitchell

. Lisa has rather an interesting story. She was born here in England, before moving to Australia at an early age. There she was runner-up on Australian Idol and her inimitable debut album has charmed those down under already. She's now back in Great Britain and her haunting sounds are showcased by 'Neopolitan Dreams', released January 19th. This tune has already featured in a certain washing powder ad and promises to be stuck in your head for a long time. She's an immense talent, in the mould of a Laura Marling, Yael Naim or Regina Spektor.

- White Lies

. Could get even bigger next year.

- The King Blues

. Post-punk and reggae rockers King Blues sound fresh and original. 'Save The World Get The Girl' could be a huge hit early next year.

Add to that Twisted Wheel I think they will be in the mould of The Enemy and Kasabian
  • 2 weeks later...

My prediction for a massive act goes to 24 year old Blackpool singer Little Boots - real name Victoria Hesketh.

Seen her live - brilliant as are her 2 singles Stuck On Repeat and Meddle.

She's HOT! HOT! HOT!

Yes and know. They will be the highlight of the festival season.

- U2 will have a number one single and album

Single no, Album yes

- Eminem's album will be number one but it will be Dido style eg. the album will then fall and flop

Maybe. IF he chooses a better lead single than it'll go to #1, and with a long lasting #1 album.

- Alexandra Burke's debut album will beat Leona's record for debut album

No

- Aerosmith will go to number one in the album's following Metallica and AC/DC

That would be nice! Who knows?

- McFly will split in around May time

Sadly they won't.

- Green Day will return with a Kings of Leon style comeback massive single and massive album

Yes.

- Mika will return and flop

That'll most likely happen, unless this time round he's less cheese and more classy electro-pop, doubt it though.

Alex wont beat Leona's record, She may match Shayne Ward's success.

My Predictions:

Leona Lewis

Leona will release a massive second album, selling 1,000,000 copies before the end of 2009, and she will have another 'Bleeding Love' style hit. She should also reach the 3,000,000 mark for Spirit.

McFly

McFly will release a new single in the summer, to little attention, and 'take a break' never to reform again.

Rachel Stevens

Will release another 'Some Girls' then we will never hear from her again!

Melanie B

Third album will be a top twenty success, with a top five lead single.

Girls Aloud

Will release a new album in the winter, being their final studio album. It will be successful, but not outsell OOC.

The SaturdaysWill score a #1 single.

Leona Lewisreach the 3,000,000 mark for Spirit.

That would be amazing!

The bookies are saying Alex will have the fastest debut album, beating Leona

If Alex does beat Leona's record, then I would buy her album (even though I can't stand her)

- Little Boots

. If you like Alphabeat, you'll love Little Boots. Hotter than hot.

This is quite possibly the BIGGEST insult to Little Boots ever

Little Boots>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Alphabeat

Sugababes are going to release a new album this year. What about that?

See following, more concise post!

Surprised no-one has mentioned Robbie Williams! His album will reach one million sales in mega time and very possibly beat Oasis's record. His first single from the album will reach 1 million sales within three months.

I was going to say that Take That will announce their final retirement but I think they're obliged for a third album for Polydor. So that is going to be 2010 not 2009. However, they may get around the 'third album' by releasing a 'best of' and finalise their commitment. So they may say their final goodbye after The Circus tour.

To be honest ... Robbie's return is really the only big thing on anyone's minds I think (even if they won't admit it!)

Don't underestimate Alexandra's Debut album!

Don't forget it was plastered everywhere for £6.99 for the Deluxe version on Pre-Order up until the 5th of January, So she will have Mega Pre-Orders!

Think of it this way, if people were buying the physical Single for £3.99, surely they would have brought the album for an additional £3 especially being branded as limited time only and the fact it's the deluxe version.

Pre-orders were being taken from HMV-Amazon & Play.com she reached #1 in pre-orders in all online stores.

I have a feeling she's already at the 250,000 mark in pre-Orders alone.

Alex had a wonderful start to her career with a sublime song. Even though I'd rather have the kd lang or Jeff Buckley version, for a reality tv star ... Alex did it justice. However ... I can't help but wonder ... if Alex could sell over a million with it ... what the hell would Leona have sold with it - bearing in mind that her 'trophy' single for her X-Factor win was a pretty crap song. The very fact that people have bought Alex's album in pre-orders on knowledge only of Hallelujah and X-Factor merely proves that 'sheep control the charts'.

Norma

Alex will be the biggest disappointment this year I reckon, Leona's 2nd album will completely outshine Alex's Debut IMO!

Also LOL at the "If you liked Alphabeat you will Love Little Boots" comment. They're nothing alike

Melanie B

Third album will be a top twenty success, with a top five lead single.

How would that happen? I dare say even Lisa Scott-Lee would have more chance of achieving this if she were to release anything.

*Alexandra's debut single will majorly divide people but will be a very large hit. Her album will be a mixed affair and won't quite capitalise on the combination of voice and image she offers - there WILL be a Stargate ballad on there.

*Kelly Clarkson will dominate the charts globally, embark on a massive-scale world tour and generally be everybody's favourite popstar again. The P!nk-comeback of '09, if you will.

*Little Boots will enjoy decent levels of success in the UK, although not Duffy-like sales as her music isn't MoR enough to entice the Asda moms.

*One former spice girl will have a top ten single in the UK. I believe this to be my riskiest prediction by far!

*Sugababes will be huge again. Their lead single will go to #1 and the album will follow suit. Fickle internet loons will pretend they never disowned them.

And remembering that in 2006 when Leona won it was an abysmal year for sales in the top 40 - the lowest in at least 20 years. Caught between the rock of falling physicals and the hard place of a digital market still tentatively finding its feet. A Moment Like This wasn't even available on iTunes initially - you had to get texted a code from the ITV website and then download from the extremely new 7Digital.

Jark, I LOVE your new signature! It has got me in the good ol' Kelly mood.

Predictions for 2009:

*Kelly Clarkson will achieve her very first UK #1 single.

*McFly will break-up later in the year.

*Alexandra's debut album will achieve one million album sales in roughly 3/4 weeks, same as her debut single.

*Sugababes will return in October with a #1 single and re-ignite sales compared to C&S.

*Cheryl Cole will be pregnant by the end of the year but doesn't affect Girls Aloud and commitments towards 7th album, having 23 consecutive Top 10 singles by the end of the year.

*Leona Lewis will return in late 2009 with a #1 single and an album that will sell 500k+ in it's week.

Leona Lewis' album is likely to set new records with another "Bleeding Love" type track that will most probably hit number one in the majority of the worlds major charts.

Britney's third single "If U Seek Amy" will take the world by storm solely because of how controversial it is and her tour will be legendary. However, once her tour is over, I think she'll take quite a big break as all of the stress will have caught up with her by this time and she probably won't release another album until late '10/early '11.

Lady Gaga will dominate continue to dominate the worlds charts with "Just Dance" and will top that in most places with the follow up: "Poker Face" and with whatever follows that. Although her album hasn't sold that well so far, sales will definitely pick up.

Beyonce's single "Diva" (and possibly Halo) will score her another number one.

Robbie Williams and Eminem's long overdue returns will definitely shake up the charts worldwide.
