The huge drop is apparantly "helped" by the fact that a large percentage of last week's sales were as a result of in-store appearances...
Michael Jackson album doing very well i didnt expect so many top 5 and yes what a fall for industry that has to be the biggest fall from number 1 ever in Ireland

Without doubt! This was posted by czb on the Irish chart thread on UKMix.

The ten worst dives from the top since the top 30 began:

10: F.R. David - "Words" (1 to 12, 1983)

9: Waterboys - "And A Bang On The Ear" (1 to 13, 1989)

8: John Lennon - "(Just Like) Starting Over" (1 to 14, 1981)

7: Chris de Burgh - "The Lady In Red" (1 to 16, 1986)

=5: Mario Rosenstock - "Leave Right Now" (1 to 19, 2006)

=5: 21 Demands - "Give Me A Minute" (1 to 19, 2007)

4: Shakin' Stevens and Bonnie Tyler - "A Rockin' Good Way" (1 to 21, 1984)

=2: Band Aid II - "Do They Know It's Christmas" (1 to 27, 1990)

=2: Leanne Moore - "On Wings" (1 to 27, 2008)

1: Jive Bunny And The MasterMixers: "That Sounds Good To Me" (dropped out of the top 30 from number 1, 1990)

Incidentally that was posted exactly one year ago when Leanne Moore equalled Band Aid II's achievement from 18 years earlier!

Julie-Ann Dineen could have been on there...

But I think that dropped something like 1-3 then started plummeting

UPDATE: 1-3-16-OUT

10: F.R. David - "Words" (1 to 12, 1983)

Dustin - 32 Counties had a considerable drop from #1 out of the Top 40 in the late 90's (I remember because I noticed it on Top 30 Hits and thought "WTF?!" at the time!) - do we have any idea whether it was deleted or what that cause was?

I don't think iTunes is very popular in Ireland, or downloading at all. Case in point - Industry is #18 on the downloads chart.

Eh? Four of this years No.1's have been on Downloads!

I'm really not feeling this David Guetta song to be honest with you... would love to see Paparazzi go to No.1 next week. The CD single is out this week, that might give it a little boost. I went to see her in the Marquee on Wednesday night, she was CLASS!

32 Counties actually only fell from 1 to 3 but then plummeted to 32 on its 3rd week.

Having spent the last 6 weeks searching in vain for a copy of the Hot Press Yearbook 2009 I gave in and paid the rather excessive postage charge on their website. Ordered it late on Thursday night and to my surprise it arrived on Tuesday morning. Will be posting all the year end charts for 2008 sometime during the next couple of weeks....

JLS are releasing their debut single in Ireland tomorrow (I think) :S

Chart Track Commentary

Jackson Still King Of The Charts

Michael Jackson strengthens his posthumous grip on the Album Chart, with ‘The Essential’ and ‘Number Ones’ holding at No1 and No2 respectively. With ‘Thriller’ at No4, ‘King Of Pop’ at No5 and ‘History’ at No10 his dominance of this chart is unprecedented.

Florence & The Machine have this week’s highest new entry at No3 with their debut album ‘Lungs’– fulfilling the expectations raised by their 2009 Brit Awards Critical Choice Award. Cascada have the next new entry at No16 with ‘Evacuate The Dancefloor’, their third album following ‘Everytime We Touch’ which spent 5 weeks at No1 in 2007 and ‘Perfect Day’ which reached No6 last year.

David Guetta and Kelly Rowland’s ‘When Love Takes Over’ takes a third week at No1 on the Singles Chart, ahead of Black Eyed Peas who leap 16 places from No18 to No2 with downloads of ‘I Gotta Feeling’, their eleventh Top 20 hit in Ireland in six years. Mirroring their performance on the Album Chart, Florence & The Machine have this week’s highest new entry at No3 with ‘Cosmic Love’. Michael Jackson’s ‘Man In The Mirror’ drops two places to No5, his only Top 10 song this week, with ‘Thriller’ the next highest at No14.

Shakyfan's Commentary

Last week on the compilation chart we had a new entry at 30 for Jackie Summer Special. This week it drops back out and it is replaced at 30 by it's predecessor Jackie: The Album Vol 2.

Just 2 weeks ago we saw the Irish chart debut for Florence & The Machine whose "Rabbit Heart" entered at 42 before dropping to 47 and then leaving the Top 50. A 2nd hit wasn't long in coming as "Cosmic Love" is the highest entry at 3.

Finally for this week I take back my comments about the excessive postage charges on the Hot Press Yearbook. When I contacted them this week to query it it turned out that the postage rate had defaulted to a higher rate when I entered my postal address. They apologised and recredited 5 Euros 50 to my card.

Number 1 this week

Single: David Guetta & Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over (2nd week - 3rd in total)

Chart Run to date: 36 1 2 1 1
