Finally La Roux gets a well deserved top ten place, the fact that In For The Kill only reached No.13 was a crime! I'd say the album has a good shot at No.1 on Friday too!
Not after MJ's death :snif:
Who the hell are they???

Basically, they're a boy/girl group. It will remind you of S Club 7.

Anyway, I like the track fortunately. ^_^

LOL, Industry ain't duo. B)

Generally when you say 'boy/girl group' a duo springs to mind.

I agree it looks like it though... Same Difference was my first thought :heehee:

Or a Ting Tings style duo. Anyway the fact he said S Club kind of group I thought a crap group with too many members and hardly any of them get their chance to shine

Well, one of them lost on the Irish Eurovision selections a couple of years ago :kink:

Good track though :)

If Michael Jackson isn't a double #1 in Ireland next week, it will be (smooth) criminal.

Sadly according to iTunes pop bars that I've seen it looks like that won't happen :(

I don't think iTunes is very popular in Ireland, or downloading at all. Case in point - Industry is #18 on the downloads chart.

Woah, I just checked iTunes pop bars and they are totalled f***ed up, #16 is actually #13 and so on....

That makes it even less likely.

Where can you buy Michael Jackson singles outside of dowloads? =/

Point taken :(
One of his albums should probably make #1 next week though, which one who knows but one of them.

Chart Track Commentary

Michael Jackson R.I.P.

There is, of course, only one story this week: Michael Jackson’s death on 25th June, which generated an unprecedented surge in sales of his entire catalogue and

catapulted his songs, albums and videos back into the charts. Sixteen MJ songs settle in this week’s Top 40 Singles Chart, headed by ‘Man In The Mirror’ at No3 (also his most popular posthumous download in USA and UK), followed by ‘Thriller’ at No8 and ‘Billie Jean’ at No11. The impact on the Album Chart is even more pronounced, despite the fact that many stores ran out of stock after a couple of days: ‘The Essential’ proves the most popular choice at No1, with ‘Number Ones’ at No2 and ‘King of Pop’ at No3. ‘Thriller’ proves to be the most sought-after of his studio albums, re-entering the chart at No5. In total, seven MJ albums make this week’s Top 20, with ‘Off The Wall’at No11, ‘Bad at No14 and ‘HIStory’ at No19. On a final note, ’Number Ones’, ‘Live In Bucharest’ and ‘Dangerous’ take No3, No4 and No6 on the Music Video chart.

The remainder of this week's chart activity is a side-show to the main event: David Guetta returns to the top of the Singles Chart with ‘When Love Takes Over’ as last

week’s No1 from Industry crashes out of the chart as their mini-tour of record stores comes to an end. On the Album Chart, Imelda May slips from No1 to No4 with ‘Love

Tattoo’ and the only new entry is La Roux’s eponymous debut at No12.

Shakyfan's Commentary

No surprises as Michael Jackson dominates the charts with 16 singles in the chart - all within the Top 40. I've tried to be as accurate as possible as far as labelling

new and re-entries are concerned but there may be one or two errors as I haven't transferred my older spreadsheets across from my old computer yet!

Interestingly Calvin Harris sits next to MJ with a similarly titled single:

26 39 Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone

Re 40 Michael Jackson - You Are Not Alone

The other big news of the week is that last week's number 1 single drops to 44. Only 1 other single - "That Sounds Good To Me" by Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers - has

dropped straight out of the Top 30 but in those days that was the size of the chart. Without the Michael Jackson singles Industry would have fared slightly better and

finished up at 28. Courtesy of CZB at UKMix here was how the Top 10 stood before this week:

10: F.R. David - "Words" (1 to 12, 1983)

9: Waterboys - "And A Bang On The Ear" (1 to 13, 1989)

8: John Lennon - "(Just Like) Starting Over" (1 to 14, 1981)

7: Chris de Burgh - "The Lady In Red" (1 to 16, 1986)

=5: Mario Rosenstock - "Leave Right Now" (1 to 19, 2006)

=5: 21 Demands - "Give Me A Minute" (1 to 19, 2007)

4: Shakin' Stevens and Bonnie Tyler - "A Rockin' Good Way" (1 to 21, 1984)

=2: Band Aid II - "Do They Know It's Christmas" (1 to 27, 1990)

=2: Leanne Moore - "On Wings" (1 to 27, 2008)

1: Jive Bunny And The MasterMixers: "That Sounds Good To Me" (dropped out of the top 30 from number 1, 1990)

The Leanne Moore single made it's drop exactly 1 year ago

Having spent the last 6 weeks searching in vain for a copy of the Hot Press Yearbook 2009 I gave in and paid the rather excessive postage charge on their website. Ordered it late on Thursday night and to my surprise it arrived this morning. Will be posting all the year end charts sometime during the next couple of weeks....
