I was expecting to see some news about the companion when I clicked in here, not a debate about the Doctor himself :snif:

Hard to talk about the one without mentioning the other Jark..... The relationship between the Doctor and the Assistant is probably the most vital thing in the show....

I think Rachel Stevens would do an ok job. Why doesn't everyone else? Did you not see "Seeing Double"

We need someone a bit more than "okay" though KK, and no, didn't see "Seeing Double", but unfortunately saw the appalling "Deuce Bigalow - Euro Gigolo", and thought her "performance" was absolutely dreadful, casting her would be a total mistake, and the show would just plummet in the ratings..... The relative youth and lack of telly experience of Matt Smith has to be tempered with a more experienced co-star IMO.... Which is why it should be someone like Tamsin Greig or Alex Kingston.... Kingston has already appeared in Dr Who, playing a character whom Moffat more than implied that the Doctor had a future relationship with.... So, she seems to me to be the obvious choice given the fact that Moffat is now in charge of the show....

I think on the contrary casting Rachel would see anything but a plummet. She's very well-liked amongst the public recently. Whether she'd be any good is another story...
Charlotte Church has been mentioned alot on various other forums..

Which is kinda my point... People would realise that she's sh!t after about the third or fourth episode and then just give up watching..... Rachel Stevens would be as disastrous for Dr Who as Bonnie fukkin' Langford was in the 1980s..... It may have continued after she left, but the damage done by her being cast in the show was long-lasting, and something in the show just died as a result and it never fully recovered, even with the excellent Ace..... Nah, I totally blame Bonnie Langford for starting the slow death of the show in the 80s.... Rachel would just do exactly the same damage as Bonnie IMHO.....

And she is someone else who would cause the show to die a slow death....

I've no probs per se with Charlotte Church... But, her being in Dr Who????? Sorry love, stick to singing, you're actually bloody good at that......

Christ.... Charlotte Church, Lily Allen, Rachel Stevens.....

....May as well just bloody cast Cheryl Cole or Jade fukkin' Goody......

Can we not have an actual ACTRESS PLEASE???????? Preferably someone with an Oscar, Golden Globe or BAFTA sitting on their mantlepiece.....

My thoughts exactly! Although I think the producers will go for a younger actress, and unfortunately there are few younger actresses with Ocars and the like in the UK. Well, Kate Winslet has a Golden Globe (or two), but somehow I don't think she would be any good :heehee:

Why does it have to be a young actress though......???? Why not somebody in their 30s, or even 40s....? Alex Kingston (44) is a bloody good actress, attractive, (and would seem logical, as I said, Moffat has already had her in the frame as a possible future "companion" anyway...) with a sh!tload of acting experience in films and TV, as is Tamsin Greig (41), again with a lot of acting experience.... Heck, I'd sooner have someone like Angelina Jolie (as long as she was more the Angelina who did 'Changeling' as opposed to the Angelina who did 'Wanted'..... ) than some of the talentless, bloody no-hopers whose names are being chucked around....

It doesn't have to be someone young, I just get the feeling that they will be looking for a younger actress to go with the young Dr Who.

I kind of think a younger Doctor with a more mature, older, more experienced actress as the Companion is a cool dichotomy.... The "companion" knowing more about life than The Doctor..... Makes for an interesting concept and intersting possibilities.....

Let's face it, you really need someone more mature to cover Matt's relative inexperience in telly.....

I can see it now

"Oh, thank you Doctor, thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much Doctor".

Yeah, that would be a good spin on the Doctor/Companion pairing - Alex Kingston would indeed be perfect :P

Could be worse... Could be Gwyneth "bawler" Paltrow-Martin..... :P

Careful though, I happen to have a thing for Kate Winslett.....
