January 7, 200916 yr I can see OCC will be changing its policy from September for the chart to be a download only, the physical is virtuely dying, this time next year it be gone forever me thinks. I’m not sure the physical CD single will ever be excluded completely. However with only a small number of HMV’s left selling regular singles it’s only a matter of time before the record companies pull the plug… It’s simply not viable to keep manufacturing and distributing a product that isn’t going to sell when you can just get iTunes to add it online and reach more customers to boot. I think physical singles will be restricted to ‘supermarket event’ singles like Comic Relief and X Factor that can still sell in reasonable quantities.

Plus I can't see physical sales totally disappearing. Even in the US there are still physical singles and the UK still sells more of them than over there. Why September for any change though?

But if they were to change the official chart to exclude sales of physical singles... won't that be the download chart? And the physical single will be around for a quite a while yet...

Even in the US there are still physical singles and the UK still sells more of them than over there. Why September for any change though? Surely if any change with the Official Chart took place, it would be February 11th...the 40th Anniversary of Officialness (That started Tues 11th Feb 1969).
January 7, 200916 yr Why September for any change though? OCC have a tendency to change things around September
January 7, 200916 yr OCC have a tendency to change things around September  I get you Martin...You mean like Sept 1987, when the new chart was first unveiled on a Sunday.
January 7, 200916 yr The OCC are still tracking cassette sales even though there are like only literally 2 sold a year nationwide.
January 7, 200916 yr why would the OCC just use downloads that would be a travesty because physicals are just selling in both CD and 7" and they still count the 7" don't they? And why would Radio 1 Chart Show be in trouble? I think it's much more accurate, of what is happening.

And why would Radio 1 Chart Show be in trouble? I think it's much more accurate, of what is happening. The Radio One Show is in trouble. Every month it loses listeners, because they choose to have a couple of twats present it. Lucio is no saint, but does play 46 songs in 3 hours (including 3 new releases). Radio One seem to see fit to miss out 20% of the top 40 every week.
January 7, 200916 yr Let me get this straight, will the Hit40UK chart be just downloads only or downloads and radio airplay.
January 7, 200916 yr If Hit40UK was just downloads and lost the airplay then it'd DESTROY Fern & Reggie and their frickin boring 'rihanecdotes' ect. :manson:
January 7, 200916 yr If Hit40UK was just downloads and lost the airplay then it'd DESTROY Fern & Reggie and their frickin boring 'rihanecdotes' ect. :manson: It is going to destroy them...because having just spoken to some colleagues at Xfm, they say Airplay will also not play a part in the new look Hit40uk. Lucio is guaranteed to feature the format as follows: Starting with a reprise of last week`s top 3. Incorporating new releases ahead of the top 30, and top 20. A rundown of the Album chart, ahead of the top ten. And there will also be less adverts. With no ads in the top 10 non-stop segment at 6.15pm. Bye Bye Fearne, and Reggie! :yahoo:
January 7, 200916 yr Why people saying. Oh why people going it`s just gonna be a dowload chart in a negative way! It won't people are still buying the song. A single song! Some people need to get into 09!
January 7, 200916 yr Why are people saying. Oh why people saying it`s just gonna be a dowload chart in a negative way! It won't. People are still buying the song. A single song! Some people need to get into 09! Absolutely Rob!! Independant Radio have finally saw, what we`ve been saying for the last 2 years! I hope they smash Radio One to bits! It`s gonna be like 1984, all over again!

First they didn't protect exclusive rights to the top10 that allowed Dr Fox to catch them up. Now the download chart, which is, lets face it going to be effectively the chart in the next 18-24 months. I've never strayed from the radio one chart before but I think I'll be listening to Hit40UK now it’s sales and not airplay and follow the official one online until Radio One despatch Fern and Reggie and play 40 records instead of turning the chart into an extension of ‘Switch’.

January 7, 200916 yr And while they dispatch Fern and Reg, will they be able to redeem listeners? Not if they do what they've done with the last few presenter changes and get someone who is even worse! :)

January 7, 200916 yr not forgetting the fact that they play EVERY song in the Top 40! Absolutely! I remember you saying before, that Radio One always copies what Independant Radio do in the end...I think that`s going to happen again! Like you said lots of Chat, Competitions, missing records, all previously happened on the Pepsi Chart/Hit40uk...and Radio One idiots just copied them, because they have no minds of their own. Which shows because every single year since 2003...Radio One`s (so called Chart Show) became a CHAT show, they have lost listeners by the score. Starting with Wes, JK And Joel, and these other 2 nutters.
