So I caved.

Listening to the prologue now and I'm liking it actually. LOL at the Oprah line, good old Mariah.

That would be what iTunes gets from Gracenote. Not the CD itself.

H.A.T.E. U. at the Today Show earlier:

I Want To Know at The View:

Both sensational performances, and not even by the standards of Mariah's recent live showings, but by anybody's standards. She utterly nails the final chorus of H.A.T.E. U.!

both songs were amazing. love her.. she still can amaze me with her live voice. legend
might be a dumb question but is 'i wanna know' a cover>?

Yes.

Giving this a second listen now and is it weird that the prologue is one of my favourite tracks? It's no single and it's not that catchy but it sounds so deep and dark, I love it. Reminds me of "Side Effects". I think my favourites after "Obsessed" are definitely "Up Out Of My Face" and then "Ribbon" or "More Than Just Friends". At first this album washed over me, but I know it's one I can really grow to like after a few listens. It's not a bad album, just one that takes a while.

Charts at #3 on 168k in the USA. :(!
It's not a major disaster. I think she'll get to platinum off the back of the next three singles and the remix album.
I didn't have much hope of it making #1 after seeing the sales at the beginning of the week, but I was hoping at least for a peak of #2. :(
"I Want to Know What Love Is" may have killed the momentum this era. I don't know if she can bring it back, even with the release of "H.A.T.E.U.", especially the way ballads are being perceived on U.S. radio. I'm devastated though, it's such a strong record and deserved more.

I totally agree. Do the record companies even listen to the radio anymore and strategize before they release singles in the US?

Obsessed, Up Out My Face, and Candy Bling would have all done well. As far as ballads, the only two which would have been played is Angels Cry and It's A Wrap.

Well every single review from the listening parties indicated that What Love Is was the highlight song. The entire point of those parties is to see guage early reaction to the material. They went with that as everybody said it was bloody great, you can hardly fault the label for it.
Yeah I agree. The general perception from people were that they thought 'Wanna know what' was a highlight so the label went with that! I do like the album, but I don't think there's any standout songs for singles choices. The albums consistent as a whole but no standouts.
Hm, I didn't necessarily fault the label, even though I do think it was a mistake to release "I Want to Know What Love Is". I think it was wrong for them to try and appeal to the younger audience with "Obsessed", and follow it up with a ballad aimed towards an older market. I can see what they were trying to do (appeal to recent and old Mariah Carey fans), but it would be hard to cater to both. "H.A.T.E.U." would've been a much better follow up if they wanted to go with a ballad, as it could've done some real damage on Rhythmic & Urban, and it's quite different to ballads on radio at the moment.
"Candy Bling" remix is out, and it's hot. The beat is a little recycled, but it's almost a completely new song.

Just had a random thought - maybe the release was pushed back for an X Factor performance????? A lá Whitney? If so I'm sure she'll do well in the important christmas market so long as, and only if she KILLS the What Love Is performance.

This whole era is really upsetting me - delayed release, obsessed mess up, floppage in US (by Mariah's standards) I mean how can you go from 1st week sales of e=mc to this?! People must've not liked e=mc... :o or felt there was nothing new or exciting this time round. I think this will be the first Mariah album that I don't like :-( I'd rather wait 3 years for something fresh than the drivle that has filled this album up! Hate U is just 'what???' for fans that like the breathey vocals then good, but for the average joe bloggs - this is just boring.

Mariah is now boring :-(
