It was expected Greatest Day would fall quite swiftly (its hardly their best song). In fact I was surprised to find it had stayed in the top 40 (just) for a further week. Not too concerned about the album as it will rise again when Up All Night (probably the second best, if not the best song on the album) is released on 2nd March - with the video premiered next Tuesday.

BW is still full price in all but one shop near me - still - nowt wrong with such a brilliant album still being in the top 75 after well over two years.

I wouldn't be surprised if a load of GA stuff goes up to around Comic Relief time ... as two of their group are doing this Kili climb with Gary Barlow, et al - its going to have a whole one-hour documentary on it leading up to Comic Relief day.

By the way ... as you're not a fan of Take That ... steer clear of Channel 5 on 4th February ... there's a new one-hour show on them being shown!

Nice bit of advertising there at the end Norma, i like how you worked that in

BW full price? There's something i'd like to see! I understood why it climbed when Woolies was winding down as they still had a lot of copies dirt cheap and there was quite a number of the tour edition in mine which i imagine would be snapped up pronto as you don't see that anywhere anymore and its the only version with Rule the World on it isn't it? Which is the song everyone is still buying in the singles chart, making it even more baffling that the album still sells without the version available including it!

So their next single is out beginning of march and the video premieres soon- i wouldn't expect the album to fall too far then, thats just what i was saying is they should get something out :)

And i wasn't saying there was anything wrong with it (or indeed TT), i just can't believe that when an album has been so widely available so cheap for so long and has sold so well, that it continues to outsell current studio albums by big acts like Kaisers, Razorlight, Sugas, etc.

Take That are a rare phenomenon right now, even more amazing when you consider they already were so prolific in the 90s. Hats off to them! So should i invest in beautiful world norma? I do like patience, not so keen on Shine though (blame Morrisons) though i like Rule the World. Completely mystified by I'd Wait for Life... as a TT expert norma, what happened there?! Is it a good song?

It's not weird that Lily's been disqualified. She gave the video away for free for a limited time. I am assuming it is therefore now disqualified until the album is released.

Oh Spiceybaby! I know you weren't having a dig ... the warning I gave at the end of my post was for people in general! Hence two of these .... ! Believe me ... some will be grateful for the warning!

IWFL - I liked it sung live at the concerts (more of a joint effort than on the recorded song) ... but for a single release it was a dreadful choice when there were so many other good songs to choose from - Reach Out would have been my choice for third single from BW.

Even if that was true, i dont see why it would affect the digital version as videos aren't counted towards the official chart? I still think its an cock up somewhere. Its got quite a big lead now on itunes so it'd be shocking that the best seller of the week isnt counted!

If your assumption is true this would be another two weeks. Album is out 9-2-2009.

There is no way Lily didn't sell enough on iTunes not to make the top100 so her iTunes sales must be being excluded. There are only two logical explanations either her record company requested her exclusion from the chart or as Jake says the track is NCQ until the album is out...

The whole Lily thing is very weird, I just don't understand why it would be disqualified due to the video when the video has no effect on chart placings anyway. I hope it appears in the mids tomorrow or at least the record company sort it out during the week. It'd be crazy if the best seller of the week wasn't #1!

Lily Allen was definitely disqualified if she's not in the Top 100.

Maybe it's the EP - what's the maximum number of tracks allowed for an EP to qualify for the singles chart - is it 3 tracks?

Bon Iver made the top 40 yesterday with a 4 track EP so it can't be that...

My guess is that whilst the record company wanted it to climb to #1 on iTunes by Saturday night they also didn't want it to chart on Sunday in order to debut at #1 next week, so they utitlised their right to have the download excluded from the chart.

If the track is "somewhere in the Top 200" as reported then perhaps it's charting due to leaked physical sales which the record company might not have thought to get barred too?

Beautiful World! still top 50 its insane, who's left to buy it?!

When you consider that some classic albums (Rumours-Fleetwood Mac, Bat Out Of Hell-Meat Loaf, Greatest Hits-Queen, Legend-Bob Marley & The Wailers, Under A Blood Red Sky-U2..etc. etc.) spent hundreds of weeks on chart, often bounding back into the top30 YEARS after their original release - it's not that much of a phenomenon. In fact, on that basis, we could see Beautiful World hanging around the chart for a few more years yet ;)

Disclaimer: Many weeks of the quoted albums were taken from the days when the top 100 albums were considered the Official Chart...more albums enter the top75 nowadays...and (he says, cringing away from the Take That fans) I wouldn't consider Beautiful World to be a "Classic Album" :P

Neither would I ... but its a lot better than certain people thought they'd come up with ... and certainly one of the better albums of the last five or six years. But I agree ... the word 'classic' should be reserved for albums by such folk as The Beatles (and one ELO album ... and it wasn't Out Of The Blue!) :)

Norma

Seriously ... the word 'classic' really is bandied about too often these days! I don't think there has been a 'classic' album in the last 30 years or so.

How can a song / artist be disqualified?

Once a single has been given away for free in any format including the track (Great DJ), video (The Fear) or pre-purchase sweetener (Viva La Vida) it’s downloads are not allowed to chart at ALL.

These tracks can only chart when an album version is released. It’s VERY harsh on Lily if they don’t make an exception. :(

Could be actually, maybe its the single pre-orders? I got mine sent through from HMV on Saturday, still seems rather strange that would want to exclude it. I'm hoping the record company will get this sorted if there is a problem (maybe appeal the decision?), I'd bet they won't want her comeback to fail to reach #1,especially as she'd easily be #1. Hopefully the mids will shed some light on the matter tomorrow.

Oh right, thats crazy! I don't see why the video would affect it still as it doesnt count anyway! I'd have thought the record company will appeal the decision then and hopefully it will get sorted.

BTW is that just for itunes? As Violet Hill was a free download and was allowed to chart once on itunes (the only difference was it wasn't made free on itunes).
