The Saturdays could be doing purely for the fact it's for charity, but I could imagine it would be down to their management more rather than them. I quite like them, and at the end of the day at least it's for a worthy cause I guess, it's not like most of it is going into their pockets.

GRIMLY, could you please shut up? :P

You're in the wrong place...

If you're just talking trash about Sats or whatever, keep it to yourself.

Well that's The Saturdays' first #01 sorted out then. :P

I'll reserve judgement til I hear it.

Recently not ALL "Charity Tracks go to number 1" :P But IIRC, the last OFFICIAL Charity single that went to number 1 was Ga vs SB. (Please tell me if that's true  - I'm dying to know myself now haha :magic:)

And I'll also reserve Judgement 'til I hear it :P

it's gonna boost the album sales though innit....? Something I'm damn sure their management had in the back of their minds.....

Whether it's more their management or not, it still strikes me as being cynical and designed to promote The Saturdays (who have been kind of failing up til now, let's face it...) more than the cause itself..... Girls Aloud and Sugababes were well established before they got the "call up", this is just pure record company PR to hype a failing girl band and boost their record sales in my books..... It's just as cynical as the Cowell thing for British soldiers in Iraq....

Depeche Mode certainly dont need the publicity, they can sell millions of records off their own back (and have done, 100 million records to be precise) and they have a huge global fanbase, nah, they dont need it the way the Sats and their management do.....

"Hero"?

I think this will be decent, I like the Wallis Bird version that recently featured on an advert for The Sun so I expect I'll like this.

The Saturdays (who have been kind of failing up til now, let's face it...)

Not really? They just got their highest peaking single and their album made the top ten for the first time last week. If anything they've been getting more successful lately.

I completely get what you're saying now, well is anything done nowadays out of pure compassion towards others? There always seems to be a hidden motive ... the whole increasing sales didn't occur to me but with the expose of this that will happen. I'm not going to bias, I like their music and everything but I totally get what you're saying.

Well, that 'charidee' record was much worse than every other Sats track. :P

Am I. And here was me thinking that this was the generic POP FORUM and NOt the "LET'S ALL BUM THE SATURDAYS FORUM" also known as the "Saturdays AF"..... :P

Mate, I like your contributions in Metal/Punk, but I woule NEVER, EVER spout this sort of cr@p if you were to criticise Metallica or Slipknot... I'd actually argue the point if I disagreed with you....

Mate, you're just TOTALLY proving my point about Saturdays fans... You should read what I and Rob written about Chris Martin and Coldplay in the Indie/alternative forum... Yet NOT ONE Coldplay fan has told either of us to "shut up" or "you're in the wrong place"....

I don't see how The Saturdays have been "failures" really

They've had 3 decent selling Top 10 hits. Improving more and more with every release. The Album, got off to a sloppy start admittedly, but in the end it's turned out to be quite a success, especially for a NEW girl band who were always going to be over-shadowed by Girls Aloud & Sugababes. They have held their own, and are currently writing and working on new material for their 2nd album.

Almost five months to sell 100k in albums in UK is POOR by the standards of a mainstream chart act surely, even the average indieboy haircut band can do better, Spiceworld probably sold that much in its first week  ... Slipknot and Metallica did that in a matter of a few weeks also, and I'm pretty damn sure Depeche Mode's sales will be a similar story..... And both Mets and the Knot have sold MILLIONS globally in the same period of time..... As I'm sure will DM given their legions of fans around the globe.....

Exactly, I'm not a Coldplay fan. :P

Also, I'm disagreeing with your trash-talk. ^_^

BTW, why am I spouting this sort of cr@p?

And how could I think that 100k is an achievement for a rising band? <_<

I don't see how The Saturdays have been "failures" really

By the standards of mainstream chart success (which seems to measure success by how many Top 3s you get, you cant really deny that...), it hasn't gone all that well them, a "chart group" is basically what they are, they're not "alternative" or "indie" or whatever....

And there is surely no denying that this whole "charidee" thing isn't being done as a way to raise their profile, GA and Sugababes didn't really need to do it.....

And how could I think that 100k is an achievement for a rising band? <_<

Didn't go Top 3 though did it....? So, surely by the standards of how record companies judge such things (ie, they want a return on their investment...) when it comes to mainstream chart acts, an initial outlay of 400k plus however much it cost to produce the videos and promote the album, where is there actually any profit being made.....?

Nah, the "charidee" thing is a ploy....

Fans agree on their dullness. :P

And maybe not that they're perhaps a little more mature and actually see the arguments that are being made and respond to them logically instead of just flaming people.....?

Ermmm, didn't GA come from a massive reality show watched by millions :/ Of course they didn't need to do it. Times have changed in pop music! Unless your already establised as an act it's harder to break through and get massive sales! Surely, their album climbing back into the Top 10 shows that people are interested and that they're growing as a band?

And mainstream chart success? GA and Sugas are the 2 biggest girlbands...many of their singles haven't gone Top 5!....

Well, yes, 100k isn't anything to brag about but it's much better than it could have been. I expected it to chart between 15 and 25 when it was first released and struggle to reach 50k but it's reached 120k and has (imo, unfortunately) outsold the Sugababes latest album. Speaking of the Sugababes, they didn't exactly get off to the best start with their debut selling 200k. The Saturdays are never going to sell millions of records worldwide or in the UK even but I honestly think they will do better with their next album. They've had three top 10s so far and this will make it there no doubt and I doubt they'd have managed this if the album was huge, every cloud has a silver lining.

I don't even obsess over the Saturdays like a lot of people so I'm not a blinded fan speaking here.
