Thread will be retitled 'Reviews' after the retail release date.

Please respect the wishes of some who don't want to have the album 'spoiled' before it's release and their first play.

Many Thanks,

"Back To The Start" remains better than sex.

That is all.

Album is actually very good, much better than her debut :D. I'll do a track-by-track review in a while :D

My review:

1. Everyone's At It - Love this! Great start to the album with fantastic lyrics. The production is great with the siren noises. This line is fab: "I get involved but I'm not advocating. Got an opinion, yeah you're well up for slating." [10/10]

2. The Fear - Glad they chose this as the lead single. Love the lyrics about celebrity culture which is very relevant and current. This line is probably the best in the whole album IMO: "I am a weapon of massive consumption. It's not my fault, it's how I'm programmed to function." [9.5/10]

3. Not Fair - Country was the last genre I'd have expected Lily to delve in. Very catchy chorus but I think it will get annoying after a while. LOL at the line about giving head. :kink: [8/10]

4. 22 - Love the production in this especially! Fantastic music throughout, especially the instrumental bridge and the ending. Strong verses and chorus. [9/10]

5. I Could Say - I really loved this when it was first put on MySpace. It doesn't seem to have changed much from that version which is good. Really beautiful lyrics. One of my favourites on the album. Her voice sounds great and really endearing. The bridge is especially fantastic. :) [10/10]

6. Back To The Start - I actually prefer the verses to the chorus in this as it's a bit difficult to make out what she is saying in the chorus. It has a really great beat but the song isn't one of my favourites on the album. [7.5/10]

7. Never Gonna Happen - The intro to this is fantastic. I also prefer the verses to the chorus in this song too. [7/10]

8. F*ck You - This is just all kinds of amazing! I love how the upbeat and cheery chorus is a complete contrast to the dark lyrics and serious issues covered. The new bridge which wasn't in the demo is hilarious. :D The added trumpets at the end are fantastic too. Genius of a song! [10/10]

9. Who'd Have Known - She shouldn't have said she ripped off Take That's 'Shine' because it's all I can think of when I listen to this now! Still a really nice song though and also much improved from the demo version. Her vocals are really cute. [9/10]

10. Chinese - Few cringey lyrics but the song makes up for it with a brilliant melody and production. [8/10]

11. Him - I like the verses but the chorus is pretty weak. I'm not keen on the topic either which is a strange one to address. [6.5/10]

12. He Wasn't There - Really cute song but I would have ended the album with a bit more punch. Still a lovely song though, especially the chorus. [7.5/10]

Overall rating: Light-years better than 'Alright Still' which was alright (no pun intended :P) but I only enjoyed a few songs and I never listen to it now. Not one bad song on 'It's Not Me, It's You' with the majority being amazing. :) [»9.5/10«]

I'm looking forward to this so much. Never really liked her that much (Smile was dreadful!) but I'm loving what I've heard of her new material so far.

'I Could Say' (demo version) is fantastic, really can't wait for the studio version. I'm definitely going to wait for its actual release now though - it's only a week away anyway!

Better than sex? ;o Maybe on par. I relate to it very much.

Loveee this album have done for a while but HQ just makes it even better obv. I'm so pleased by the reaction it's getting both by the press and fans. The reviews have been pretty excellent all round. Can't remember if Alright, Still got such good ones?

I lie here in the wet patch in the middle of the bed, I'm feeling pretty done hard, done by, I've spend ages giving head <3 EPICC.

May aswell post mine:

Everyone's At It - 9/10 - Loved this from when it first leaked. Fantastic opener to the album.

The Fear - 9/10 - I remember being obsessed when this was 'I Don't Know' so it has pretty much lost it's edge for me now. So glad it's number 1 and was the best choice for lead single.

Not Fair - 9/10 - Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Loves it <3

22 - 8/10 - Production = love. Very good song.

I Could Say - 10/10  Up there with 'Littlest Thing' deffo. Really quite beautiful tbh ;o Makes me feel a bit sad. Easily one of the best things she has ever done.

Back To The Start - 10/10 - This song was clearly wrote with me in mind. No other explanation. Oh wait, don't we all have an older sibling we are jealous of/hate/love? Epiccc <3

Never Gonna Happen - 8.5/10 - Lyrically awesome <3 Is it just me or does this remind some people of Eurovision?

f*** You - 9/10 - Anthem I think you might find. I want this as a single <3 Love the new bits and the background 'f*** you's' are wub.

Who' Have Known - 9/10 - OH MY. So yeah I actually get all the moaning of 'WHAT THE f*** HAS HAPPENED?!?' The demo version is 10/10, still really amazing though

Chinese - 7/10 - I'm still on the fench with this. People seem to adore it, maybe it will click eventually.

Him - 8/10 - Funnnnn  Clever stuff from Lily <3

He Wasn't There - 8/10 - Music annoys me a bit but still goodie.

Overall - 9/10. Godly.

Not Fair is my favourite so far. Funny lyrics, great melody and trashy country instrumental = amazing.

I've said this before though, and I'll have to say it again: I really hate the new melody for the chorus of Who'd Of Known. I don't get why she's made it sound more like Shine, especially with the cheapo piano as well. It was perfect before, it had such a nice laid back vibe but the chorus has completely lost it now. I'll definately be keeping the demo version of that one.

Full Review:

01 Everyone's At It - Catchy little number, glad it wasn't the lead single though as "The Fear" is far superior. 9/10

02 The Fear - LOVE 10/10

03 Not Fair - Intro music is AMAZING and chorus makes me LOL 9/10

04 22 - Sounds VERY Alright, Still-esque :o still really good, love the chorus 9/10

05 I Could Say - BEAUTIFUL, The beat is amazing... just WOW 10/10

06 Back To The Start - The better-than-sex-song 10/10

07 Never Gonna Happen - WEIRD but a good weird LOL... I think I'll get bored of it fairly soon though 8/10

08 F*** You - We all know this 10/10

09 Who'd Have Known - If it werent for "Shine" I'd like this more, meh 7/10

10 Chinese - SO CUTE, I WANT TO BE HER BF TO THIS SONG 10/10

11 Him - This is about God I hear? Well it's really good lyrically and production is flawless 9/10

12 He Wasn't There - Will skip this 6/10

The Production on this album is SOOOO good.

Overall: 8.9

VERY strong, much better than Alright, Still.

I'm so pleased by the reaction it's getting both by the press and fans. The reviews have been pretty excellent all round. Can't remember if Alright, Still got such good ones?

Got an 8.3 from Pitchfork. :o Though I'd be incredibly surprised if they give this an 8. I'm predicting somewhere in the 6 range.

Only skimmed through this but it's okay enough I guess. Significant loss of a lot of the bite/attitude from Alright, Still...nothing as good as 'Smile' 'LDN' 'Knock Em' Out' 'Everything's Just Wonderful' or 'Alfie', yet is a bit more consistent?

Here's my track by track summary now I've had a chance to listen to it properly.

Everyone's At It = 8/10 Great opener but I'm a bit burnt out on it now and am preferring Kabul $h!t which has a similar vibe.

The Fear = 9/10 Great track, but again, it's a bit old now.

Not Fair = 10/10 Best song on the album, funny lyrics and catchy melody and bits of country music thrown in for good measure. Absolutely love it.

22 = 7/10 Nice song, but a bit bland. Nothing wrong with it though and it's perfectly listenable.

I Could Say = 8/10 I never listened to the demo of this so I never got bored of it. Really strong song, and the production is top notch on this. I think it's sounds a bit like something Robyn would do with the violins and electro beat.

Back To The Start = 9/10 Really cool song and it has the most electro sound on the whole album. The chorus is absolutely great as well.

Never Gonna Happen = 7/10 Again, a bit bland but perfectly listenable. I quite like the lyrics on this one.

f*** You = 9/10 Amazingly catchy and good lyrics and the full version is so good, especially the little "fu<k you" helium break.

Who'd Of Known = 7.5/10 If this had been the same as the demo it would've been 10/10 easily but the new chorus ruins it. I just don't get it. The demo will always be my version of choice.

Chinese = 8.5/10 Great song, good kitchen sink style lyrics if you're into that sort of thing and the chorus is nice and catchy.

Him = 8.5/10 I have a feeling this is going to grow on me a lot. It seems a little underwhelming at first but it's got a really nice vibe to it.

He Wasn't There = 7/10 This is just a fun little tag on, not amazing but not terrible either.

her lyrics are AMAZING!! love her voice, and the melody..

the album is GREAT 9/10!

Really disappointed with this to be honest...feels so emotionless compared to her previous work. I can't knock her lyrics as they really are nearly always top notch, but everything else about this album...:/

I do quite like Everyone's At It, f*** You, Back to the Start, and The Fear though.

Perhaps it will grow.

This is amazing. On the flipside to Ben I think a fair chunk of it really is quite emotional...

09.0 Everyone's At It - The beat in the intro/end of the choruses is hypnotic! Sums up what Lily's all about as a song.

09.0 The Fear - Genuinely great.

09.0 Not Fair - Lyrically BRAZEN and hugely hooky. Could be a single but it's a bit risque for radio...

08.0 22 - The verses annoy me a bit but the chorus is mesmerising.

09.5 I Could Say - Amazing, and it sounds like a SMASH. This would be an easy airplay #1. Release it!

08.0 Back To The Start - Production and verses are stunning but the chorus is a real mess. Still, great vibe.

08.5 Never Gonna Happen - A future single I hope...

08.5 F You - Lovely message to this one, catchy as anything. She sings 'fuk you' SO angelically LOL.

06.5 Who'd Of Known - Weak chorus but the rest is good. The chorus though, I can't get past it. Rubbish.

10.0 Chinese - Her best song ever. Beautiful, catchy, imaginative. Just... incredible.

08.0 Him - Brilliant lyrically, decent hook, perhaps lacking a bit of magic...

05.0 He Wasn't There - Decent but nothing on the rest. I wouldn't have put it on the album.

Highlight - Chinese

Low point - He Wasn't There

 on the high pitched f*** you

hahaha IKNOW!! oh my.. it's always makes me laugh

Utterly diabolical record. Lily Allen has descended from a genuine music artist, who used her social situation and the music of her youth (as seen on her debut record) to an artist who well...conformed into bland mediocrity. 'It's Not Me, It's You' is an album totally enamored by fame. Admittedly Lily retains her wordsmith credentials but the music itself is limp, unfocused and to a certain extend dull. I mean honestly, to go from a gorgeous pastiche of ska, dub, pop et al to ripping off Take That and Killers melodies, it's about three steps back from where she was. Tbh I think Lily has emphatically designed this album around her lyrical sense of self-importance with nothing else really mattering, it leaves the tone and texture of the album suppressed and to a certain extent pretty benign.

There is no denying that Lily Allen has talent but to me INM, IY represents the epitome of lazy LA fame mercenary. What made Lily so interesting was her sense of "realness", admittedly she's never been entirely real per se, but she always seemed very "human". Fame seems to have ravaged her into an artist more keen to tow the line, spewing out sub-par, middle-of-the-road, emotionless fodder.
