February 2, 200916 yr :o Oh wow, very gripping stuff, I love the whole concept about the series, it had me hooked from start to finish, very intense drama and very dark. I quite like it ... but I'm quite honestly fascinated by anything to do with the original Jack The Ripper story. There really is something bugging me though ... the height of that tiny copper! When he's in shots next to the tall, young (main) copper I just laugh! And facially ... he really bears too much of a similarity to Albert in Steptoe & Son! Is the guy who plays the Jack The Ripper expert (the one doing the tours) from League of Gentlemen or something ... he really looks familiar! Norma
February 2, 200916 yr Yup! Just checked ... Steve Pemberton - he WAS in League of Gentlemen! I never forget a face! Norma

February 2, 200916 yr $h!t! Completely forgot to watch this :( I'd been looking forward to it for ages as well! Hopefully I'll get snowed in tomorrow so I can catch up on iPlayer
February 2, 200916 yr Bloody hell ... now wonder the bloke who played the 'little cop' reminded me of Albert Steptoe ... he was in the drama a year back 'The Curse of Steptoe' playing ... Albert! Cremey - even if you've missed the first episode ... its one of those things that you can tune into later and still enjoy! Norma

February 3, 200916 yr This was very good. The police station seems reminded me a LOT of Ashes To Ashes, if updated a little. Should be interesting... not Penry-Jones' most likeable role though.
February 9, 200916 yr I'm sure that guy was a child actor in the 70s/80s comedy sitcom Please Sir with John Alderton You're thinking of Peter Cleall - he played Duffy in Please Sir and The Fenn Street Gang! http://www.memorabletv.com/new/Fenn-Street-Series-2.gif Back to this series though ... as good a drama as Whitechapel is ... are the police in this even more inept than those in Eastenders, Corrie and Emmerdale put together? Norma
February 9, 200916 yr So, who is the killer then? :o I've not made my mind up yet! Personally, I think the butler did it! Norma
February 9, 200916 yr So, who is the killer then? :o I don't have a clue personally, But this has been REALLY good!
February 9, 200916 yr Well we know its not Buchan (the ripperologist). I've eliminated him from my enquiries. I really hope that when the killer is revealed (if he - or she - is) that it is someone we have already seen in the series ... not some random Joe! Norma

Norma I hope so too, would make it a better storyline. I think it is one of the coppers....
February 9, 200916 yr It's obv somebody we've already seen. But then murders have occured when the police were all on the lookout... I vote the ripperologist's mother. She has access to all of the details about the ripper! :kink:
February 10, 200916 yr It's obv somebody we've already seen Not necessarily! I remember watching a film called The January Man a few years back, with Alan Rickman and Kevin Kline. After wondering which one of the cast it was doing the Calendar Girl murders, it turned out that it was someone who hadn't even been in one previous scene! I vote the ripperologist's mother. She has access to all of the details about the ripper! :kink: That is quite a good theory actually. But in all honesty, nearly everyone in the UK has access to the details of Jack the Ripper. I'd also place under suspicion - the police pathologist or ... that soldier fella they suspected earlier (Leary?) We already know that the police support officer was killed sometime earlier in the evening than her counterpart of 100 years ago - so he did have plenty of time to do it - even taking into consideration the paparazzi bluff he was playing. February 10, 200916 yr Author I've got a hunch its the Commander, the way he sliced into his dinner, gave a clue away.
February 10, 200916 yr I love this show, wasn't sure if I'd like it when I read about but the last two weeks, it doesn't feel like an hour long programme it feels so quick, and very dark the characters are very good and the actors do a very good job I do also think it could be the commander character who is the killer but I don't know, it could end up that the ripper might not get caught as they keep referring to the historical fact that Jack was never caught It is strange watching the location shots as I worked in the area on a few occassions and know it quite well
