February 9, 200916 yr Cheese lol not butter but I was close http://blogs.warwick.ac.uk/images/hsirhan/2006/12/20/coon.jpg
February 9, 200916 yr I think the real point is that she has failed to issue a full apology. She gives the impression that she doesn't understand how offensive the term is to some people. Before this, I had thought of her as being relatively liberal (for her family). This episode suggests that there's still a strong element of the arrogant public school girl in her.
February 10, 200916 yr IF and its a big if as it is basically her word against Jo Brand and Jo being very left wing might have some sort of grudge against Carol because of her mother, she did say this then that is clearly inappropriate and indeed racist without doubt but it was still said in private so should not impact on her job with the BBC, if she had said it on air then I would be calling for her sacking but she said it in private Her word against Jo Brand, Adrian Chiles and everyone else in the studio mate..... I think I'll take their word against a vile, right wing bint like Thatcher, and it aint exactly "private" mate, more "off camera", god she WAS in a bloody studio, not a restaurant with her chums....She said it and has no regards or feelings for the fact that many people WOULD find her comments offensive, not only that, she and her PR team tried to be a bit "economical" with the truth and put a spin what actually occured (bloody jam jars indeed  ), so she's a fukkin' liar as well as a racist.... <_< Man, what a load of crap you spout sometimes, how the hell can you possibly say that she doesn't deserve what she got..... Carol Thatcher is a fukkin' BROADCASTER, she's not an average working stiff, she's in the bloody MEDIA, the media can control and manipulate people's opinions and mindsets.... And you certainly do not have to be black to find what she said grossly offensive.....
February 10, 200916 yr Different culture mate The best selling brand of butter in Australia is called COON Can you imagine the outcry if Coon butter was sold in this country White Australians are probably amongst the most racist people on the planet..... Look at how they tried to "breed out" the Aborigines in the 1940s and 50s, the "stolen generations" and all that, an absolutely dreadful, crypto-Nazi ideology behind that one.. And their general attitudes even today towards the Aborigines is hardly much better, barely even acknowleging that the Aborigines exist.... When was the last time you saw an Aborigine actor in Neighbours or Home and Away.....? -_- Christ, any wonder that when the likes of Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and Kylie made it big, they moved out the place as fast as they could.....?
February 10, 200916 yr Australian PM Rudd issued an apology to the Aborigines, and supposedly attitudes towards them are changing, but slowly. It's no different from the Yanks and the Native Indians tbh, just more recent.
February 10, 200916 yr Carol Thatcher is a grown woman and her mum was prime minister for god sake! She needs to grow up rather than using childish terms.
February 11, 200916 yr Australian PM Rudd issued an apology to the Aborigines, and supposedly attitudes towards them are changing, but slowly. It's no different from the Yanks and the Native Indians tbh, just more recent. Yeah, the Yanks certainly treated the Native American tribes appallingly, but never really quite went to extent of trying to exterminate their entire gene pool by kidnapping children and breeding them off to white men.... I think it's rather difficult to say "sorry we tried to exterminate you", and frankly, it really IS as bad as what the Nazis tried to do to the Jews, in some ways worse, in Germany, the Holocaust was the action of an insane dictator and his henchmen who seized power by duplicity (burning down the reichstag and blaming it on Jews and "communists", thereby playing on peoples' fears), in Oz, the Stolen Generations was perpetrated by a far more mainstream Govt...... So, just WHY is it that we have this big remembrance thing about the Holocaust, yet seek to try to downplay these other incredibly shady things....? Especially seeing as how Oz is still a commonwealth country, and the people who did these terrible things to the Aborigines were descended from Brits.... You say that attitudes are changing, well, I reckon that the Germans did FAR more to atone for their sins against the Jews, they've certainly never tried to hide the facts of the Holocaust and in fact have laws against Holocaust denial, the whole "stolen generations" thing seems to be rather swept under the rug if you ask me, Aussies really just dont like to talk about it... What have the Australian authorities really done for the Aborigines in the past few decades.....?
February 11, 200916 yr What was done to the aborigines was very unpleasant but the abo's too have not done themselves any favours to earn the respect of the Australian people, last night I was in a multi with 2 Australians and talked about this very issue, 1 from Sydney and 1 from Melbourne and criminality from abo's is absolutely rampant in those 2 cities according to them, both petty and serious crime so while of course not every abo is a criminal the white Australian people hate them for being criminals so respect works 2 ways

What have the Australian authorities really done for the Aborigines in the past few decades.....? i personally have no idea exactly what is being done. I know that the 'White Australia Policy' was repelled, and this was the policy responsible for the stolen generations. i'll be able to experience the relationship between the aborigines and the aussies when i arrive in the country on monday. I do know that Rudd said in his apology speech that although he can't fix the stolen generation thing they are going to try to make the future better. they did remove all the restrictions that made them 2nd class citizens in the 70's
February 12, 200916 yr What was done to the aborigines was very unpleasant but the abo's too have not done themselves any favours to earn the respect of the Australian people, last night I was in a multi with 2 Australians and talked about this very issue, 1 from Sydney and 1 from Melbourne and criminality from abo's is absolutely rampant in those 2 cities according to them, both petty and serious crime so while of course not every abo is a criminal the white Australian people hate them for being criminals so respect works 2 ways You ever see an Aussie prog called "Underbelly"....? Revolves around the Melbourne underworld of the 1990s, based around facts, and from what I hear, gets pretty near the mark (in fact, so near the mark, the state of Victoria tried to ban it).... You want to talk about "rampant criminality" in Australia....? The Melbourne underworld was pretty much all white people of European descent, try and 'wiki' the name Alphonse Gangitano mate, aka, the "Black Prince of Lygon Street", him and his crew were a right bunch of murderous b'astards..... And frankly, the white Australians should hate themselves for forcing the Aborigines into abject poverty and a life of crime.... Exactly what opportunities are available to the average Aborigine....? Not nearly as many as is availiable to the white population..... Respect my arse.... The White Australians have done nothing but disrespect the Aboriginies, and are now trying to make out like it's the Aborigines that are the bad guys because they're not gonna just sit back and be fukked up the arse anymore.....
February 12, 200916 yr a direct result of being opressed in their own country, resentment after being treated as second class citizens. it was a bit more than oppression.... It was attempted genocide mate... The kids of the "stolen generations" grew up, and probably became incredibly resentful of the white authorities considering how they were treated..... Kidnapped, put into white households as virtual slaves and then they tried to breed them off to white people to try and wipe out the entire bloodline..... Not exactly concentration camps, but the overall idea was pretty much the same.... I'm utterly astounded by Craig's attitude, you'd think that being a Jew, he'd have a tad more sensitivity.... But, well, mind you, he supports the bloody Israelis, who've have been trying their best to either exterminate or dispossess the Palestinians (another case of outsiders and imperialists oppressing the indigenous population.....) for about the past 60-odd years..... <_<
