It's causing much hilarity up in these parts I can tell you! 'Southern Softies' has been the headline in the Scottish press.

But to be fair the Scottish Councils have loads more snow ploughs and gritters than those in the South of England so we're much more used to coping with the white stuff. We're more used to driving in it too. :P

Can imagine. You're so much more organised up there

We can have a dusting of snow about 1cm and the schools would shut. Health and safety and all that crap

We'll sell you some of our spare grit. 100 quid a bag seems reasonable. ^_^ :P

All the busses were cancelled today in bristol. I sent a really pissy e-mail to First Bus (who operate the service) as they were not providing the service they are supposed to.

I may have to walk to work tomorrow (7ish miles) so I will try and not be a southern softie!

:( I'm broke, can't afford to buy a bag of grit

I purchased tickets to see Madonna yesterday. :yahoo:

I will have no money for the next 5 yrs

My Local Council alone has this available to it:-

'The council's vehicles for the winter programme include 60 gritters, 52 snowploughs, one snow blower, 24 lorries, 10 tractors and seven loaders'.

Well I wouldn't be walking 7 miles in the snow Matt.... :o

Do you have welly boots to walk in?

It was the same in London, all the busses stopped, trains too

No just trainers! I don't have much choice if the busses are off as I really need to get to work :(

Crazy

It's not like London has steep hills for the buses to get stuck on

Are you not supposed to stay at home unless you can get to your office in under 1 hour on foot? You won't be able to walk 7 miles in an hour. In the snow. :o

Your safety comes before work Matt

Its my fault I live in one of the steepest bits of the city! It will be icy whatever at the moment I guess and I always fall over :heehee:

Quite a few people where I work today had to walk and it took them over an hour.

If that's a rule, I bet they wish they knew that this morning, they were frozen :(

Well, if I stay at home it means I have to take the day as leave - and what if the snow continues for weeks? I can't take all my years leave now and I can't afford to take it as unpaid leave...

I will probably take me a couple of hours I guess. If the busses are on though, it will be fine.

I'm off now, night

Good luck with tomorrow and getting to work Jester, hope the busses are running for you.

No Sparkle. For civil servants I meant. :P

Matt, for DWP staff anyway,

If there is no public transport in snowy weather you are expected to walk to your nearest office. If your nearest office is more than an hour's walk away you shouldn't attempt it and you get a day's paid special leave.

I guess it's a bit different if you live in the city. I would need to walk 2 miles across a moor before I even come to a single house  And my nearest office is 10 miles away. :D

I'm off as well.

Take a taxi Matt
