Posted February 6, 200916 yr Royal Mail looks to shed 16,000 jobs The proposed losses — amounting to almost one in ten of the company’s workforce in a drive to reduce the wage bill by £470 million http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article5672522.ece
February 7, 200916 yr FUKK...... Like the service isn't already bad enough..... Just how, exactly will losing a TENTH of the workforce make RM better....? The mail service had begun to start going a bit downhill from '98, but had rapidly deteriorated in the past 5 years..... Drafting in clueless agency numpties and not training staff properly has led to serious problems.... It's pretty obvious that by reading the article, the Govt and those high up within the organisation is softening up the Mail for privatisation.... I can see the Queen really loving that one.... :  I'm not sure I would really trust a private firm to handle the mail system tbh....
February 11, 200916 yr All that big letter, small letter rubbish irritates me. I find myself choosing birthday cards etc. because they're 'normal' size so that I don't need to trot off to the Post Office to get whatever stamp it needs. I'm used to buying books of 1st and 2nd class stamps. Does anyone know if you can buy books of stamps for large letters? I usually lose loose stamps amongst the other mass of papers in my handbag. I should add our RM service is still very good but I fear it will deteriorate significantly if these job losses go ahead. A tenth of the workforce is a shocking cull. Just think of the blow to morale of the remaining workforce. The plight of the newly jobless across all sectors in the UK is unthinkable, especially where an area is reliant on one or two large companies. Edited February 11, 200916 yr by Baytree
February 12, 200916 yr Royal Mail can't afford to sack 10% of it's workforce Rural areas already have a horrific postal service. I live in a town with a sorting office, and yet it can be 1pm before my mail reaches me. It's a 10 minute walk ffs. Christ knows whats going to happen today. It's snowing pretty heavy and i have a parcel that i have to get today. if i don't get my $780(AUD) today then i'm going to be hard pushed to get it by saturday. Aussie customs ain't gonna let me through with just $80, a few £'s and a couple of credit cards
