5. Deeper And Deeper [97 points]

Best score: 10 x2

Worst score: 4 x1

I'm amazed this song made the top 5. Though its achievement is undermined slightly by the fact the song received only 10 points more than the #12 song on this rate. If one more person had voted, this could have missed the top ten.

I lose interest in this song when Madonna starts quoting 'The Sound Of Music'. Though we can see it as a prototype for the 'Confessions' album, I don't think this is one of Madonna's best singles.

4. Beautiful Stranger [106 points]

Best score: 11 x4

Worst score: 3 x2

I wanted this song to win. Perhaps I should have rigged the votes. But then it would not have truly won like it should have.

Held off number one by 'Bring It All Back', this may be Madonna's poppiest song since 'Like A Virgin'. It was also the most-played single of 1999 in the UK and helped build excitement for the 'Austin Powers' film.

It's very hard to sound graceful when performing this song at a karaoke evening. All the 'da-da-da' bits require you lose yourself in the popness of it all.

The video paid tribute to both Madonna's many reinventions and many lovers. 'Double-oh-behave' still makes me laugh and I am a grown man.

Well done all concerned. This was the pinnacle of the Madonna/Orbit heyday.

'Amazing' from the 'Music' album sounds eerily like this. Oh, Madonna. Pop lightning never strikes the same melody twice.

The top 3 will be announced early evening as that is when the most people are online. Hopefully more users can see this thread and feel the anticipation.

Thanks to everyone who's commented so far. Hope you're enjoying the countdown.

I'll give you a clue about the winner: the song comes from the album 'Ray Of Light'.

(Same clue for which song has come second and third)

I agree.

3. The Power of Goodbye [107 points]

Best score: 11 x2

Worst score: 6 x2

Just sneaking into the top three is this ballad from the 'Ray Of Light'. It's hard to imagine the fragile voice in this song is the same singer who released 'Hanky Panky'.

As you can see, no-one disliked this song.

Gorgeous song and a sizable hit too: {6}-17-25-32-30-36-41-52-61->9

Power Of Goodbye would have made top 5 if it was the third single released on the 4th.

2. Ray Of Light [126 points]

Best score: 11 x4

Worst score: 7 x1

Everyone liked this song: no-one gave it less than 7 points. It got the exact same number of points as 'Frozen' but one less person gave it full marks so it must settle for second.

This is arguably the most well-known Madonna song of the 90s. And a song it was okay for rock fans to like. The fast-paced chorus, all that nonsense about zephyrs. What's to dislike?

The video showing the fast pace of the city and Madonna's shiny hair was acclaimed rather than banned. Hurrah!

1. Frozen [126 points]

Best score: 11 x5

Worst score: 7 x1

It tussled with 'Frozen' for first place throughout the entire rate. And victory is its. Rightly so - I think it was Madonna's best since 'Like A Prayer'.

It has a lot of humming in and, as I've said before, I'm a fan of humming in my Madonna songs. The video saw Madge dressed as a strange sand witch gesturing a lot in a Kate Bush way.

See said video here:

It was Madonna's first #1 for a while and really made people see Madona differently after all that 'Sex' nonsense. Great song and the first Madonna record I ever bought.

That's your lot. Thanks to everyone who took part, Paul for letting me do it and everyone who's commented.

Hope people have enjoyed reading the results and my commentary.

Ray Of light did'nt deserve to be #2. It is far to repetitive IMO.

Frozen is a great winner.

I wanted Beautiful Stranger to win, but im happy with the Top 4 :D

I agree on both counts. The only tracks I gave 9 or more points to appear in the top 4.
