Erasure on Top Ten Electropop Pioneers (Channel 4 2001)

 

Once upon a time this 1980s keyboard wizard was responsible for writing hits for Depeche Mode, before he left and formed synth-pop duo Yazoo with Alison Moyet (think Adele's mum), then after recording the one-off Top 5 hit Never Never with Feargal Sharkey he went and formed Erasure with Andy Bell. They went on to have a lengthy string of Top 20 hits over the next decade and are still going today. Whilst he still kept his eye in other production/remix duties including Sparks, Happy Mondays, Betty Boo, Simple Minds, Basshunter & working colleagues Alison Moyet, Andy Bell & Depeche Mode....

 

Anyway in 2008 a much hyped girl-group released their debut single that sampled the Yazoo Vince Clarke/Alison Moyet co-penned classic Situation on If This Is Love, he also remixed their third single Issues. So Perhaps it comes as little surprise that they are covering the first top 10 hit he wrote Just Can't Get Enough for Depeche Mode, especially as Erasure have a 2CD 40 Pop! Hits Best of coming out. Coincidentally, the co-writer of Situation Alison Moyet's ex-husband is a hairdresser for ..... the Saturdays amongst other pop acts under Prestige Manaagement; whilst Alison Moyet is a long time friend of Dawn French whose husband Lenny Henry was co founder of Comic Relief having been responsible for the 1988 Comic Relief single Love Letters.

 

Oh, and Erasure have submitted original songs for The Saturdays 2nd album..... After all if the Pet Shop Boys can write for Girls Aloud; OMD can write for Atomic Kitten; Soft Cell can write for Kylie.....
