Brit Awards 1989 Part Ten & finishing early so the Beeb played a Bros video to fill up the time.

In 1989, in an attempt to add some excitement and appeal to the proceedings organisers decided to rename the awards to 'The BRIT Awards' presented by "Dr Death and the Tooth Fairy" aka Fleetwood Mac's Mick Fleetwood and former page three girl Samantha Fox as co-hosts of the live show. The inexperience of the hosts, an ineffective autocue and poor preparation combined to create a shambolic performance. The hosts continually got their lines mixed up, a pre-recorded message from Michael Jackson was never broadcast and several star guests arrived late.

The Samantha Fox/Mick Fleetwood show proved to be the single most important event in BPI/BRIT Awards history. It was just so disastrous that the British public's interest was revived and the BRITs became associated with risky live TV.

It was car crash TV at its finest, lowlights included Cliff Richard receiving his Lifetime Achievement award and then proceed to do a Pro-Conservative rant in 1989. When Ken Russell announced Michael Jackson's award he couldn't have imagined the circumstances in which he'd be meeting his brother 18 years later! DJ Gary Davies comes onstage to try and sort things out and just makes things worse with members of the Rolling Stones.

its seen as rather funny now, but at the time it was just goddamn awful tv, compounding 'oldies' views that (in the s.a.w) era pop music was tripe.

the attempted marriage of fleetwood and fox was forged to try and bring the generations together.... obviously it didnt work!

That was a classic BRIT show, talk about height difference

Good old Sammy had a brief fling with SAW (it was the late 80s, lets face it, who didn't?!). Here for your viewing "pleasure"...

I've always wanted to see this so many thanks to whoever uploaded it :)

It's sooooooooooooooooo bad! Mick doesnt seem that bad and is quite funny, but Sam is totally clueless!

I have to say, it feels weird with the classical music award being incorporated with the pop music awards. It would have been nice to have seen their performances on this stage or were they out of time?
