Sen. Chris Buttars considers the gay-rights movement -- nationally and in Utah -- "probably the greatest threat to America."

In an interview with documentary filmmaker Reed Cowan, released by KTVX Ch. 4 on Tuesday night, Buttars said the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community doesn't want "equality, they want superiority."

"It's the beginning of the end. Oh, it's worse than that. Sure. Sodom and Gomorrah was localized. This is worldwide," the West Jordan Republican said in the interview.

On Wednesday, gay-rights activist Jacob Whipple, founder of the All For One Initiative, called for Buttars' resignation from the Utah Senate, urging supporters of the LGBT community to e-mail Buttars and Senate President Michael Waddoups, R-Taylorsville.

"He basically labeled my community as virtually the devil incarnate," Whipple said. "I don't think that he represents Utah any more. … Saying something so hurtful has no place on the hill."

Buttars also compared gay activists to Muslim terrorists.

Buttars said Wednesday he's not commenting on the interview but he plans to post a blog item about it on the Senate's Web site later.

Last year, the NAACP called for Buttars to resign after comments he made on the Senate floor about a complex, school-funding bill, saying, "This baby is black. It's a dark ugly thing."

Buttars kept his seat and won re-election in November.

DEE GAYZ AHH RUENENG AMEWICAH. LAWLZ.

No. Actually gang violence and a p*** poor economy is ruining America... but hey! Just blame the gays, that dusty old book in the corner will back us up!

Well, he is from Utah, so I really didn't expect anything more from him...

God forbid men for having "teh buttsecks", because, like, it'll destroy the worldz. [/sarcasm]

A senator from Utah.... Probably a fukkin' Mormon as well..... Yeah, gay people are such a threat to society when the Mormons are manipulating 13 year old girls into polygamous "marriages" and raping them..... <_<

And comparing the Gay Rights movement to islamic terrorists???? Jesus, that would just be fukkin' laughable if it weren't for the fact that there are probably plenty of ignorant arseholes in the US who actually believed this.....

Nope, the biggest threat to America is religious, right wing zealots like Buttars and Bin Laden, if we're going to make comparisons, the Mormons, fundamentalist christians/jews, end-timers and Jihadis all have a lot more in common with each other than anyone else.....

And I always thought it was Al-Qaeda, not gay people, that flew those planes into the World Trade Center. How silly of me.

Funny, I thought the same.....

Mind you, at first, I thought it was anti-globalisation protestors......

I've heard The Daily Mail are keen for Chris Buttars to write a weekly column.

This guy is a member of the Utah State Legislature. What a completely desirable job to be a member of state government in the worst state in America. When this man actually has a REAL JOB that can influence people I will become concerned.

Remember Sally Kern? Ellen got her revenge on her...

If they see me as a threat, let them, I'm not stopping what I'm doing :)

Wow that's harsh!!!

I personally just want to go about my life as normal thanks, not rule the world.

I think the point he is trying to make is how there always seems to be some people whinging and complaining about rights for this, rights for that. I mean things getting censored [like Baa Baa Black Sheep, or that drunken sailor thing because its homophobic 'apparently']. It's ridiculous. I mean unless I'm beat up or called abusive names in the street [which has NEVER happened and I'm out and proud] I am not offended by homophobia or such at all.

I think its a case of so many things that people could control like society and the climate and the economy have all gone to pot and now they just busy themselves by calling the BBC if someone displays a bit of forbidden flesh on Eastenders.

Typical -_-

Let's all just blame gay's for everything that's wrong with the world, because theres no way it could actually be our fault instead :drama:

With all due respect, what does that have to do with America.....? I seriously doubt someone as clearly ignorant as Buttars is even aware of these debates which are taking place here in UK... Don't excuse this man's ignorance mate, or indeed underestimate it, he's very clearly and very deliberately stirring up hatred of the gay community in the US..... Gay Rights is really the one area left which needs to be addressed, after all, if it hadn't been for the civil rights movement in the 60s, would we now have a black president....? I rather doubt that.... It's what I've argued all along, people dont get given their rights, they have to take them, through protest, through direct action, through resistance, and even through revolution if necessary; they have to drag the State kicking and screaming, they have to force the issue.....
