June 17, 200619 yr I'm rather hoping that Bryan Singer will do a similar revisionist job that Chris Nolan did on Batman.... I'm rather unsure about Brandon Routh though.... , I rather think that Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor will act him out of the film....
June 17, 200619 yr I'm actually looking forward to watching this, and if someone rebrands this film as Superman 5 I will get mad, because its not, its basically a remake of the actual Superman The Movie, just like Batman Begins with a darker feel to the movie. On the lead actor Brandon Routh, I think this film marks his debut acting  and I'm not really particularly keen on the actor they have chosen Kevin Spacey looks great in it. The character of Lois Lane is a bit of a hottie, Kate Bosworth, Orlando Bloom's fiance
June 17, 200619 yr I'm rather hoping that Bryan Singer will do a similar revisionist job that Chris Nolan did on Batman.... Batman Begins is class, Chris Nolan did a grand job on it. And chose a good lead actor for the role. A sequel is planned for 2008, with The Joker as the main villain, I just hope they won't bring Robin back to the movies, as the Batman movies work better without him.

Agreed, Christian Bale has rather more acting class to him than Brandon Routh (personally, I'd've gone for someone like Guy Pearce or Ed Norton myself)....  . And agreed on Robin, the best two Batman films of the original franchise were the ones Tim Burton did without that annoying little peckerhead... <_< The title of the film is "Superman Returns" by the way...
June 17, 200619 yr Christopher Reeve WAS Superman, the series should have died with him Its like Die Hard 5 coming out in 5 years time with say George Clooney as John McClane, it just wouldn't feel right

June 17, 200619 yr Christopher Reeve WAS Superman, the series should have died with him not George Reeves then   http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7c/Supermancast.JPG
June 17, 200619 yr Christopher Reeve WAS Superman, the series should have died with him Well, that's a bit of a silly statement seeing as how there was a series from the 1950s which came out before the films....  Anyway, I thought Dean Cain did pretty well in the 90s show.... I suppose you think that the only decent Batman is Adam West.....

So would you turn doen a knighthood or MBE if it was given was Michael Keaton a weird choice to play Batman when he was given the job in the late 1980s/early 1990s? he was on Letterman the other week promoting Cars. from that twitchy performance i would expect there to be lots of shock when he was revealed? then again cant put in to perspective if he was tom cruise mega-success in those days. He is the bloke out of Herbie Fully Loaded of course!!! (ie not the one from Garfield )

(ie not the one from Garfield ) I thought Keaton was pretty good as Batman myself, he brought a darkness to the character that neither Kilmer nor Clooney could. Christian Bale is frankly superb though, the perfect choice for both Bruce Wayne and Batman in the 21st century....
June 17, 200619 yr I don't really like remakes, so I'm unsure about this. I've got a feeling it will be really computerised and look too fake and cheap. Like Spiderman etc when he's flying through the air on a web, I don't like all that.

Yeah agree with that, but you probably no more about film that time than me? was it a weird choice at the time? were the fanboy gasping or were they cool about it? from the performance he was on Leterman think he might be more of a comedian then?
June 17, 200619 yr I don't really like remakes, so I'm unsure about this. I've got a feeling it will be really computerised and look too fake and cheap. its not a remake its a continution. things like this can go on for years and devlop. thats the wonderful thing about these properties
July 15, 200619 yr It is getting brilliant reviews. 5 Stars in loads of papers and mags i've seen. :D Apperently Spacey plays Lex Luther brilliantly and is far more believable as a psychopath than Gene Hackman was. Routh apperently is extremly alike Reeve in the film. I look forward to seeing it :)
July 15, 200619 yr Actually I enjoyed it, Kevin Spacey stole the whole film, away from Brendan Routh, he portrayed Lex Luther well, he actually puts Gene Hackman to shame, the ending is left open for a follow up. Unfortunately Kate Bosworth was a bit wooden as Lois Lane, they could have chose a better actoress. Brendan Routh does look a bit like Christopher Reeve, this is his first movie for Brendan, and he pulls it off very well. But all the credit has to go to Bryan Singer who brought The X Men to the big screen as well. A great direction from Bryan, to bring Superman back to the 21st century, and bang up to date.
July 16, 200619 yr I enjoyed the plot, which was rather good. Singer again breathing new life into old and familiar characters and giving the superhero a sense of having three dimensions and making us actually care for the characters, just as he did with his two excellent "X-Men" films.... BUT - I still dont really buy Brandon Routh - he is rather wooden and was utterly acted off the screen by an excellent Kevin Spacey who clearly loved playing the role of Lex Luthor.... As for Kate Bosworth - Come on... the girl's only 23 years old, and she barely looks old enough to order a drink in a bar to be honest....(Brandon's obvious youthfulness you can get away with somewhat, Superman is an alien after all...), Are we honestly expected to believe she can play a slightly jaded character who's had life give her a few knocks...? Not to mention have a 5 year old kid..... Margot Kidder was 30 when she played the role of Lois Lane in the original film, if this film is meant to be set five years after events of "Superman 2" then surely a 35-year old actress should have been cast... Hmm, maybe Bosworth and Posey Parker should have swapped roles, Parker actually looks as though she's had a bit of a hard life.... Despite the odd bit of casting, I found it to be a very good film..... 7/10, but could have been higher had it been cast a bit better....
July 25, 200619 yr I thought it was excellent, I really enjoyed the plot and the emotional Gravitas Singer has given the characters. I agree Kevin Spacey was excellent, though he usually is! 9/10 for me.
