U2 are cashing in on the huge pre-release exposure for their new album, with No Line On The Horizon outselling the rest of the Top 10 sellers combined on its first day on sale.

The Mercury-issued album sold 64,698 copies on Monday, according to retail reports, around four times as many units as its nearest challenger, The Prodigy’s Invaders Must Die. The Prodigy album debuted at number one last Sunday to give Cooking Vinyl its first ever chart-topping album.

U2’s new album, which was backed by the band occupying a series of promotional slots across the BBC last Friday, could be joined in the 20 this coming weekend by their 2006 retrospective U218 Singles. The best of, whose sales are up around 140% on the week, was ranked 39th on last Sunday’s chart, but is poised for a double-digit climb on the forthcoming countdown.

There are presently no other new entries in the Top 10 positions, although Albert Productions’ rock act The Answer are just a couple of hundred sales off the mark at this stage with Everyday Demons. Meanwhile, Lavolta/Columbia act Red Light Company look set for a Top 20 entry with Fine Fascination.

Lower down, Tuna Turner will return to the Top 40 this weekend with newly-issued EMI best of The Platinum Collection and she will be joined by Independiente act Howling Bells with Radio Wars.

More than 27 years after Depeche Mode reached number eight with their original version, Polydor’s The Saturdays are looking a strong bet to score their fist ever UK number one single with a reworking of Just Can’t Get Enough for Comic Relief.

It is currently only around 2,000 sales ahead of RCA act Kelly Clarkson’s My Life Would Suck Without You, which entered at one on last Sunday’s chart, while there is also strong competition from Atlantic act Flo Rida’s newly-issued Right Round EP.

Interscope/Polydor’s Lady GaGa with Poker Face and Mercury act Taylor Swift’s Love Story complete the top five leading sellers at present.

I can see Take That been number 8 or 9( i hope that at the least or higher) and i think Will Young will be lucky to make the top 30 at highest

I dont think it particularly matters where TT chart in all honesty, the single has done a lot for the album and they dont have a top 10 chart run to ruin because wait for life broke that anyway.

Yeah but it's only the second single from their album so i am sure they want it to go top ten in all honesty!

Oh yeh i am sure they want it to but i am just saying i personally dont see it as being that important. If it doesnt go top 10, it will be just outside.
