If I had my way you would be banned from this section of the forum, of course that is a matter for Rob and Scott and admins but every single thread you post in you hijack with pathetic childish drivel that has no place in a forum based on intelligent debate

we cannot ban people...

I don't know much about them though so how can I have an opinion? I vaguely know that Auschwitz was a POW camp in Europe but not which country it was in even. Tend to study pop music and films rather than history.

chris, you are possibly the biggest idiot i have ever seen online. yet again you spout rubbish, UTTER RUBBISH, like a moron then moan when you are rightly challenged on what you post.

yet again you ignore previous advice and yet again you make the same idiotic claims.

you want to post an opinion, fine, but what you are doing is internet grafitti... just wild unsubstantiated claims posted to shock, not to DEBATE.

SUPPORT YOUR POSTS WITH THOUGHT OUT EVIDENCE OR SHUT TF UP. do NOT come here posting inflamitory posts then moan when you are challenged on them, resorting to the same old moan 'its my opinion, cant i have an opinion' YES you can, but the point of this forum is to DEBATE/DISCUSS points, NOT to gob off a slogan then sit back.

More's the pity... But I certainly think that what we should be able to do is lock out this forum (remember the adult forum on sweet mistrust...?) and only give a password to people who can pass a fairly simple general knowledge/history test... I reckon that would weed out certain individuals....

Back to the actual question though... I think that posters like Crazy Chris (who is 49, but obviously with a mental age of about 10...) kind of disprove the article's theory....

Yes, Britain's almost certainly become dumbed down in the past 25 years, but it's not just having consequences upon the young.... The Mass Media and the Internet has NOT liberated or empowered us, it has NOT led to us becoming more intelligent or better informed, one has to ask ourselves the reason just why that is, because by all rights, more information should equal a better informed public, which is more aware, more intellectually well rounded and more empowered, shouldn't it..? Well, SHOULDN'T IT.......?

We come back to Noam Chomsky and his documentary "Manufacturing Consent"... The pursuit of truth has become the pursuit of trivia....

Learning about the Holocaust is, I feel, VITAL, because it has a direct linkage to other, more recent atrocities such as the Ethnic Cleansing in the former Yugoslavia, the genocide in Rwanda, both of which occured for pretty much the same reasons - one group wanting to exterminate another for political and ideological ends..... <_< <_<

It's bloody simple Chris, you utter knobhead - dont learn from history, repeat the mistakes.... Pretty bloody simple equation that even a braindead gibbon should be able to understand.....

I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise for last night - i may have been a little vicious in my replies... just i tend to get a tad too personal with this sort of thing :heehee: My apologies, though.

After reading through your posts mate, as far as I'm concerned, you've nothing to apologise for.... If I'd been around last night and confronted this as it was happening, I'd've posted more or less the same sort of objections....

If anyone should apologise for their childish behaviour and just generally posting stuff purely to shock with no real thought or argument behind it, then it should be Chris... Chris reminds me of another poster, called ElPres who made posts about how he thought Hitler was this really "cool guy".... But ElPres was 14..... You kind of expect that sort of foolishness from a 14 year old.... NOT from someone who is in their 40s and raising a child..... I seriously feel sorry for that kid.....

You said nothing wrong, being jewish extraction myself I came very very close indeed to telling Chris what I really think of him and trust me it would not have been pretty but I decided not to risk a ban but it was close :o that post where he put a " :yahoo: " next to the fact that X Factor is more important than the holocaust was effectively taking the p*** out of family members that perished in the concentration camps so he seriously pushed his luck

Once again, not allowed my OPINION on a public forum.

At 49 years of age I have no idea what Auschwitz is. Think it was some sort of POW camp but don't think we learnt it in school at all. Why are so many people stuck in the past anyway ? Can't we move on and look to the future instead?

I think the only things school-kids really need to know are how to read, write and add-up to get their correct change in shops. Any other subjects are a complete waste of time. Well certainly were for me anyway. If it was up to me school would be voluntary. Half the teenagers don't want to be there so why force them? I hated it and left at the earliest possible date at 16.

This explains a lot. You're making a case for education, buddy.

You could really be part of a public awareness campaign. "Stay in school or you will turn into ME!"

Some more Buzzjack hostory. You agreed with me last night, now I'm going to agree wtih you. I thought his first comment might have been meant as a joke, albeit an unfunny one. That second part made it look he was either serious or very drunk.

Up untill recently I thought Auschwitz was in Germany.

Feel free to hate on me for this comment :[

And what makes it even more sad is there is around 35 years difference in age between the 2 of them

At least one of them - the teenager - had the good grace to apologise.

if you were defending yourself then i for one would have supported you. defensive responses are more acceptable then offensive ones.

i'm still in shock someone would be stupid enough to say such a thing.

Auschwitz et. al. are some of the worst things the Nazi's ever did over both of the two wars.

Just to confirm, you are aware the Nazis were only in operation for one war

Thanks to those of you who regarded my apologies unecessary by the way, i just felt i may reacted a tad too angrily and therefore may have annoyed mods or something :heehee: But like grimly said - defensive replies are ,i guess, alot more tolerable than offensive replies.

Noone's going to hate on you for that  Pretty easy mistake to make tbf, for along time i probably thought the same.. most important thing is to just know what it is and why such a thing should not be forgotten :)

We never did the wars in history before i gave it up

Nah  After Germany lost the first world war (badly) the country was in a terrible economic state, which led to the election of Hitler + the Nazi party who promised great things for Germany.. and tbf, at the start he did a great job of getting Germany out of depression, but his determination to own every surrounding country is what STARTED the second world war :P Sorry for the history lesson

Up untill recently I thought Auschwitz was in Germany.

Makes no real difference where it is/was, it's more the fact that it even exisited....

Here's something the history books kind of gloss over though about Concentration Camps... The idea of Concentration Camps was actually BRITISH... They were used in the highly unpopular Boer War....

...And now we go back to history repeating itself because here we are locked into another highly unpopular and contenscious war, and this country supports a Govt who uses torture tactics in GITMO (and Obama can say what the fukk he likes, I wont believe a damn word he actually says until he mans up and closes the fukkin' place down..), which is surely a concentration camp under a different guise.....

GOD no, it was the Kaiser that was in charge of Germany at the time of WW1, the Nazis had bugger all to do with it, they didn't even exist...

James is right about Germany being in a terrible economic state, but what he leaves out is that the reason it was in such a bad state was because of the totally unfair terms of the Versailles Treaty, which made a lot of Germans extremely resentful.... Hitler exploited that discontent, basically blamed the Jews and the French for it, sent his henchmen to burn down the Reichstag (again, blaming the Jews, and the Communists as well...) and et voila, the rest is history....

Thank you both for that ^_^

IMO the only properly amazing thing Hitler did was build the Nurburgring    i aim one day to drive round it. Naturally when i graduate from driving my mothers 1.2 16v Clio.

From what i have read/heard in relation to Hitler, it appears he did have some good ideas, and that he was good for Germany for a while. He of course had some horrific ideas (Kill jews and master race much?) and went about some of his good ideas the wrong way.

Yeah, well, exterminating 6 million people does tend to overshadow the good things mate....

Also, the fact that he was a totally paranoid, schizoid lunatic.....

Indeed it does.

6million is a very lot of people.

i didn't really know how many deaths were down to him, i knew it was in the millions.....

You'd have to be off your rocker to try to exterminate both an entire religion and country. Whose combined populations greatly out number your own (even if the french just rolled over.....)
