FANTASTIC. I did actually kind of like Creative, but as a singer he lacked the ability AND the personality. His winning the X Factor ahead of Rhydian, and even Same Difference, was a complete mockery.
I dont like Leon;s music but i think in a way he has been let down, simon as we know never wanted him to win and i still believe he won on the back of his duet with Kylie, but simon never gave him a chance and they should have hepled him and tried to get him some success, simon is so focused on leona as she is huge and no one will ever do aswell as her from x factor, but at least they oculd have tried with leon the album wanst promoted as could or should have been and a third single should have been released to at least give him some chance,it really shows what simon is really like i think

I actually agree with that. And I don't think we really need any proof of what Simon Cowell is really like. I do agree that Leon should not have won (to my mind he should never even have got through to the televised finals) ... but having won - he could have got a fraction more backing than he did. I wonder what backing Simon will give to Alexandra?

Well, I didn't want Leon to win, he was too stale. Whilst Rhydian certainly had more talent, I couldn't imagine much worse than listening to an album of his...I was surprised that when he did release an album it did as well as it did, but not surprised it has quickly faded into obscurity. Same Difference were just a joke...but bless them for trying! I can't remember who I wanted to win from that series, but they certainly weren't in the top three.

Certainly there was a lack of promotion for Leon and only the record company will know the real reason for that. Good luck to him in whatever he does next.

I think we're going to see a lot fewer big stars emerging from these talent shows. The beginning of the end for X-Factor? How many more series do you think it has left in it? I'd give it about 5.

X Factor will last for as long as there is demands for ballads from the public

Look at the weeks they have on X Factor it is almost entirely dedicated to singers of ballads and unless you can sing ballads you are not going to get past boot camp

Why is there no indie week ? why is there no Queen week ? or hard rock week ? or punk week ? or Elvis Costello week for example ? but instead its always the same old bloody pop divas and balladeers

X Factor is a cattle cart for ballad singers so as long as there is demand for dreary cheesy ballads or Mariah/Whitney type music then X Factor will last

yeah would love that ^_^

They done something similar in America called Rock Star INXS which was good

Its just the same boring old crap week after week in X Factor

I don't know... Reality winners flopping and being dropped/fading into obscurity is hardly a new trend, it's been happening from the very beginning. Hear'Say, Michelle McManus, Steve Brookstein...

It's not so much the talent shows losing their appeal, as that every couple of years or so, the public cocks up on the voting and puts through someone who clearly has no chance of lasting more than 2 years. And for every one of those, there is still a Leona, a Will Young or a Girls Aloud who makes it.

I do agree however, that the X Factor would benefit from a re-jig. I'd LOVE for there to be a series that doesn't feature Without You at one point. A Queen week could really work I think, they've got enough well-known hits to make it work, and if Britney Spears can have a week devoted to her....

With the exception of Will Young no one has bought anything new to the table

Girls Aloud are great marketing fodder but have they bought anything out that is groundbreaking or innovative or completely changed their genre ? no, they are just an above average carbon copy of what is out there 50 times over

Same with Leona, bloody good voice but again she is effectively a Stars In Their Eyes singer, a copy of what is already out there albeit a bloody good one

For Alexandra again she is a Beyonce, Beverly Knight type Stars In Their Eyes performer, she brings nothing new

Shame she didn't really have the talent but the only one who bought anything new to the table this year was Diana

A Queen week would be amazing, but sadly amazingly bad in terms of the performances unless innovative singers get past boot camp

A Queen week in 2008 would have been car crash tv as Eoghan would have done "crazy little thing called love" and none of the others bar Ruth who I think would have sung Queen brilliantly could have carried it

I totally agree with this and virtually all your points on this subject.

Whilst I agree Rockstar INXS was the best reality TV talent show ever. The standard was so incredibly high.

For example I can honestly say I have not seen a performance on X-Factor/Pop Idol ever equal or better than these:

Suzie McNeil (4th) - Bohemian Rhapsody

Jordis Unga (5th) - The Man Who Sold The World

Marty Casey (2nd) - Creep

JD Fortune (1st) - The Letter

Mind you, as Radiohead & David Bowie are some of the lengthy list of artists who refuse to have their songs performed on X-Factor (others include Paul McCartney (post Beatles); Bob Dylan; Bruce Springsteen; Paul Weller; Kate Bush; The Who; The Kinks; Led Zeppelin; Pink Floyd; Pet Shop Boys; Depeche Mode; etc) because of their utter contempt for Simon Cowell and what he represents in the music industry.

Whilst could you imagine Simon Cowell allowing an act to perform an original composition written by a contestant; like this example from Rock Stars: INXS?

JD Fortune (1st) - Pretty Vegas

Poor Leon.

He was most likely only given a once-off album deal, so now that it's flopped like it has he was obviously going to get dumped, especially after the whole Simon-not-wanting-to-win saga. Speaking of that Simon must be over the moon that his point has now been substantiated with the success Leon has had. I think at the end of the day, noone actually cared about him and he was a bit downfall from Leona Lewis who won the year before and all the attention is still on her really. Must be heartbreaking for him and his minor fanbase, don't think anyone will want to sign him up either after what he has come up with and the evidently small fanbase.

Have to disagree, Craig. I think you're making the wrong comparison. GA have brought immense variety to the table as far as girl groups are concerned, the likes of the Sugababes, Pussycat Dolls have not - an example being they each have one MAIN and lead singer and all their albums are hardly that much different from each other. I'd say PCD have dancing talent and Nicole is a brilliant singer but that's about it THEIR music isn't groundbreaking. The same with the Sugas, there's just nothing, IMHO.

I feel it's a completely different story with GA, they are a class act and are groundbreaking enough to have become the most successful girl group, and they send out such a great impression to the rest of the world about British music, they are really are one the UK'S headlining and something-to-be-proud-of-acts, their popularity, chart and sales success would be a lot lower if they were just marketing fodder. Kimberley and Cheryl are such role models to so many, and Sarah and Nadine AND Nicola are all incredibaly talented vocal-wise and performing-wise. They ALL sing, their isn't one lead singer, their dancing and performing is immense. And with every album they've done so much for the pop industry= EXTREMELY groundbreaking. Each album is so different from the rest. The simplicity and undergroundness of 'The Sound Of The Underground' -> The originality and lyrically genius of 'What Will the Neighbours Say' -> the funness and kareoke retroness of 'Chemistry' a revival of what you could say made the 80s and 70s, bringing that popularity and style back into this decade -> The putting emotion back into dance and club music, and undeniably catchyness and class synths of 'Tangled Up' -> And now the retro classic re-establishment of the pop we all used to love and adding that GA touch with a little amaze modernisation in 'Out Of Control' ..

All in all, they've come a long way, done so much, proved so much and have so much musically to NOT be called groundbreaking.

I disagree. When Sugababes came along with Overload, there was nothing like it around at the time...it was groundbreaking. Girls Aloud have just been spoonfed a number of (admittedly pretty good) pop songs and performed them. And since overload, Sugababes haven't really done anything that could be termed groundbreaking either. They're both just "nice" pop girl groups and unless their songwriters provide them with anything that is groundbreaking...or they manage to come up with something themselves...then it isn't going to happen. In fact, they've probably been warned away from doing anything too groundbreaking as to not alienate their fanbases.

Shame she didn't really have the talent but the only one who bought anything new to the table this year was Diana

Yes, but unfortunately, as many people have said before...could you imagine listening to a whole album of her voice? Nice as a one-off, but I think after a few songs, it would really grate on me!
