Posted March 22, 200916 yr A family of four with a combined weight of 83 stone say they are "too fat to work" and need more than the £22,000 they currently receive in benefits. Philip Chawner, 53, and his 57-year-old wife Audrey weigh 24st. Their daughter Emma, 19, weighs 17st, while her older sister Samantha, 21, weighs 18st. The family from Blackburn claim £22,508 a year in benefits, equivalent to the take-home pay from a £30,000 salary. The Chawners, haven't worked in 11 years, claim their weight is a hereditary condition and the money they receive is insufficient to live on. Mr Chawner said: "What we get barely covers the bills and puts food on the table. It's not our fault we can't work. We deserve more." The family claim to spend £50 a week on food and consume 3,000 calories each a day. The recommended maximum intake is 2,000 for women and 2,500 for men. "We have cereal for breakfast, bacon butties for lunch and microwave pies with mashed potato or chips for dinner," Mrs Chawner told Closer magazine. "All that healthy food, like fruit and veg, is too expensive. We're fat because it's in our genes. Our whole family is overweight," she added. Each week, Mr and Mrs Chawner, who have been married for 23 years, receive £177 in income support and incapacity benefit. Mrs Chawner is paid an extra £330-a-month disability allowance for epilepsy and asthma, both a result of being overweight. Mr Chawner gets £71 a month after developing Type 2 diabetes because of his size. He was on a waiting list for a gastric band last year, but a heart condition made the operation unsuitable. Their daughter Samantha receives £84 in Jobseekers' Allowance each fortnight while Emma, who is training to be a hairdresser, gets £58 every two weeks under a hardship fund for low-income students. Emma, said: "I'm a student and don't have time to exercise" she said "We all want to lose weight to stop the abuse we get in the street, but we don't know how." source: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics...not-enough.html Should they get more benefits or should we buy them a treadmill?
March 22, 200916 yr I've seen fatter people who work!!!!! This story is one of the most riduclous story I've ever read. Maybe if they stop spending money on junk food they'd save a lot of money. They'd get even more money if they got of their lazy fat ass and got a job. They talk so much rubbish. Heathly food is expensive?? So is bacon. I've not sympathy towards because they are idiots making themselves ill. Anyway I wonder what Mr Crazy Chris has to say about this :P "Omg they deserve more money"
March 22, 200916 yr Too fat and unhealthy to lift a finger ... except for the finger that lifts the lid off the biscuit tin! At least they make for entertaining reading! Can you believe that the mother used to be a stable girl? Must have been a f*cking big horse! Norma

March 22, 200916 yr Now this is the attitude I don't like... buy them some treadmills, ban them from fatty foods and make them work their arse out. ;) edit: i'm not fat but I eat a lot of chocolates :P Edited March 22, 200916 yr by funmaker11

I can eat as many horses (even chocolate horses) as I like and not put on any weight at all! Norma
March 22, 200916 yr I'm like you funmaker! I can eat as many horses (even chocolate horses) as I like and not put on any weight at all! Norma similarly I really suffer with my weight as in I can't keep it on. I don't get any benefits.... I would understand if they actually couldn't work becuase of a medical condition, that's fine with me, but if they can walk outside to have that photo taken then they are perfectly capable of tapping away on a computer for a few hours a day and earning some money themselves.

If they took the benefits away from these fat bast*rds then they'd soon find the energy to work! If only to keep them in chocolate digestives! Norma
March 22, 200916 yr I think they eat all their benefit money they received. They are mistaking it for chocolate money.
March 22, 200916 yr I'm like you funmaker! I can eat as many horses (even chocolate horses) as I like and not put on any weight at all! Norma Now I'm wondering what 'horses' are you referring.
March 22, 200916 yr Make them go on Survivor and they'll get over that "medical condition" real fast.
March 22, 200916 yr I think they eat all their benefit money they received. They are mistaking it for chocolate money. If they only spend £50 on their weeks shopping then where the hell is the rest of the money going and how can they want more?
March 22, 200916 yr If they only spend £50 on their weeks shopping then where the hell is the rest of the money going and how can they want more? They eat their neighbours? Norma
March 22, 200916 yr If they only spend £50 on their weeks shopping then where the hell is the rest of the money going and how can they want more? Like I said they must eat it! They must spend the rest of extra extra junk food. Chocolate Eclairs, hot dogs, bacon butties, maccies and pringles. They need more!!!!
March 22, 200916 yr They eat their neighbours? Norma I'm suprised they haven't eaten each other although I swear the blonde girl has bite marks on her arm if you look closely.
March 22, 200916 yr How about they don't eat for a week? That'll solve the problem. Eating healthily isn't just limited to fruit and veg :| God this country is thick as pig $h!t sometimes.
March 22, 200916 yr Fukking idiots - instead of cash being given to them they should be given free entry to a gym and personal trainers. "Hereditary" simply means the parents ate $h!t when they were kids too. Their meals probably make up 3000 calories but I'll bet they all snack like crazy and drink heavily. Fruit and veg is not too expensive - they need to shop around or choose the cheaper ranges i.e. not just strawberries, cherries and pre-packed salad. "I'm a student and don't have time to exercise" is the biggest load of $h!t in this entire article - you're training to be a hairdresser love, not a neuro-surgeon. Get off your arses.
March 23, 200916 yr £50 on food and 3000 cals? My Arsehole. This fat waste of oxygen family are pathetic, there is no reason why they can't work. And exersice? Try walking fat ass, with thier size that'll do them as much good as bloody running. And eating heathily is just as much about cutting down/out junk food and snacks as much as it is eating fruit/veg
March 23, 200916 yr "I'm a student and don't have time to exercise" is the biggest load of $h!t in this entire article - you're training to be a hairdresser love, not a neuro-surgeon. LMFAO! Yes! <3
March 23, 200916 yr utter nonsense, and i cant understand why they are getting away with it 'hereditary'?... so 2 people inherited their fat off their parents? cos both of them are porkers with different parents! too fat too work?... pmsl... id give them nowt. fat doesnt manufacture itself out of thin air, ok peoples metabolisms are different, but you are ultimately responsible for what you eat. if you dont eat $h!t then you cant get fat.
