Sir Fred Goodwin's home attacked

Source - BBC News

The Edinburgh home of former Royal Bank of Scotland boss Sir Fred Goodwin was attacked by vandals overnight.

Windows were smashed and a Mercedes S600 car parked in the driveway was vandalised.

There has been widespread public and political anger over a pension payout worth about £700,000 a year to the 50-year-old bank boss.

Sir Fred took early retirement from RBS last year after the bank needed a £20bn bailout from the government.

Last month, RBS reported that it made a loss of £24.1bn in 2008 - the largest annual loss in UK corporate history.

It is not known if anyone was in the house at the time of the attack or who reported the vandalism.

A spokesman for the Royal Bank of Scotland said short term security arrangements had been put in place at Sir Fred's Edinburgh home, and that these were still operational during the time of the attack.

The bank would not confirm what these security measures entailed.

A police car is now guarding the entrance to Sir Fred's home, in the Grange area of the city.

Three smashed ground-floor windows of the stone villa were clearly visible.

In the driveway, the rear window of a dark-coloured Mercedes saloon was smashed, as well as the nearside rear passenger window.

There were no obvious signs of activity inside the house.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokeswoman said they were called out at 0435 GMT.

She said: "Inquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing. We are appealing for witnesses."

All I can say is - Shame it wasn't petrol bombs being chucked through the windows....... Good luck in finding witnesses to come forward btw, I certainly wouldn't help police in their inquiries even if I DID know who trashed the place.......

The actual suspect list for this is prob gonna be as long as the Edinburgh telephone directory......

I think the suspect list will be longer than Edinburgh's phone book.

Try Edinburgh, Lothian (all 3), the Borders, Fife, Clackmannanshire, Stirling, Perth & Kinross, Tayside, Lanarkshire (N&S) etc......

I would look at RBS's customer list as well, or one of the employees that he has sacked or has been sacked because of him

Good on whoever did this. Should be knighted, more deserving than he is.....

Thats a good idea, take away Fred's knighthood and give it to this guy/woman

Excessive yes, but if it forces him to rethink how he has behaved during this whole affair then it's justified.

two wrongs dont make a right ......

ok the point has been made, lets leave it at that although id back any lawful protests.

Like the people who stole the $10,000 statue from scammer Bernie Madoff's house and then returned it a week later with a note "lesson: return stolen property to its rightful owners!"

I do not support violence. Vandalism is a form of violence.

No matter how many time I say it I'm struggling to convince myself in this case.

Lawful isn't gonna cut it with these types, they're simply not being punished legally for their wrongdoings. They need to be taught a lesson.... The likes of Fred the Shred are responsible for fukkin up this country, putting tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of people out of work, and through their irresponisbility are to blame for the worst public debt this country has ever known.... Fukk 'em, "Burn Baby Burn"...... <_<

Apparently this is the gonna be the first in a campaign against fat cat city types and bankers.... GOOD..... These people need to be confronted with the wrath of the ordinary working man, they need to be told that they cannot just expect to be above it all, WE KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE, and we can get to you.... :yahoo:

"Whatever means necessary..." and all that, this is war mate, CLASS war.....

At the end of the day, it's only property... And property which should be sequestered by the State to pay for his fukk ups anyway if you ask me.....

Exactly...this is not physical violence...although I guess it may have caused his family some mental anguish (I don't give a f*** about him but he should think about how his actions may affect his family)......but any anguish was felt miles away from their holiday home....

More really does need to be done against this lot - how come Nick Leeson served a jail sentence for essentially doing the same thing?

I have absolutely no sympathy for this guy what so ever, he is nothing short of a bank robber in a nice expensive suit. Not only has he been responsible for bringing one of Scotland's biggest and most respectable bank into disrepute and near bankruptcy, he steals a massive pension for the rest of his life that we can only dream of, but he sticks two fingers up to all of us and refuses not only to hand all or some of it back, but he refuses to even admit he did anything wrong.

To me he should be locked up, as a common bankrobber would. All his assets should be liquidated and given back to people who have had their homes repossessed.

I doubt he will get any peace living in Scotland, as he will be hounded out, and good riddance too.

However, what pisses me off is after his windows get smashed, the local police give it top priority and seven 7 officers attend the scene. 2 uniformed to stand guard!!!! 3 CID officers to inspect the scene, and 2 forensic officers looking for clues.

Lothian & Borders police wouldn't answer to a comment when asked if all cases of vandalism would be treated similarly.

I bet you would be lucky if the local police would even turn up, let alone investigate a broken window at your house.

If this guy had shown any remorse, or even donated some of his pension to charity, this might not have happened, but since he is the most arrogant individual you could ever come accross I say hell mend him.

By the way he is not the only one responsible for this mess, what about the guy from HBOS and Northern Rock they are just as guilty, and let's not forget the ringleader MR BIG....Gordon Broon himself who lorded over this whole sorry mess.

100% SPOT ON Bri...

Indeed, let's face it, there's about as much chance of the police responding to a similar call if it happened at the home of an ordinary working class or lower middle class person as there is of Fred the Shred donating his superannuated pension to the local chapter of Shelter.....

The question really has to be asked here of whose interests the police are actually serving... The ordinary taxpayer or the elites..? This group, whomever they are, have spectacularly exposed the facts that the establishment only looks after its own....

Oh, as for your last paragraph, believe me, this has only just begun.... There's the G20 conference next week... All the fun of the Fair eh....? All police leave has been cancelled, and the city of London is getting ready for potentially MASSIVE civil unrest...... :cheer: :cheer:

If you guys dont see me post next week, it probably means I've been arrested and detained at her Maj's pleasure. I've got about a dozen tins of custard and I aint afraid to use them......

Don't aim for Rudd!!

he is one of the very few who is actually doing any good for his countries economy, we'll just ignore his mainly racist citizens for now.......

All 3 CEO's etc need to be charged. First my bank comes within mintues of going totally bankrupt. Good thing Brown stepped in  now i'm lumped with f***ing Lloyd's TSB. The only bank with worse Customer service in Cupar than HBOS :manson: but then RBS go and trash the bloody exchange rate it was 2.2 before that. it's 1.9/2 atm :arrr:

Urgh... When is this happening? And where? I have a job interview in London next week. With the Police.....

April 1st, Wednesday... Hopefully the whole of Central London.....

What the fukk do you want to join the Filth for anyway mate....? They're part of the problem, as they proved during the Miners' Strike and all their agent provocateur actions on various demos over the years.... You think they're gonna join the fight against the Fat Cats and City scum (though they should actually do their fukkin' jobs and arrest the likes of Sir Fred, Broon, Darling and others for destroying your future...)? Are they fukk..... <_<

You're at Uni....? Well, it's your future that the G20 protestors are fighting for mate.... The facts are that Graduate unemployment is gonna hit record levels because of the financial crisis..... It's something I reckon you should be extremely angry about....

When i started my Accounting degree we were told that there is no shortage of finance jobs available.

Not any more there ain't!

To be honest i don't think we'll be very far out of this mess by the time i graduate in 2011 if at all given our current government and the opposition.

Traveling across Europe sounds like a great idea instead, unless of course these morons f*** our currency up further so the pound is worthless. If it is, more time working in Morrisons for me :nocheer:
