It's back! Second series begins very soon. There's a trailer doing the rounds which you can watch here. Looks exciting! I pretty much 'gasmed over this last year. I'm one of the few who found it infinitely more enjoyable than Life on Mars...

I was truly disappointed with Ashes to Ashes after the brilliant Life on Mars. However ... that tv trailer looks really good (I can see Spandau Ballet's Chant getting back in the charts on the strength of this - and if it doesn't - it should). When I saw the start of the trailer though ... it reminded me of the Take That RMF video!

I gave up after a couple of episodes with the first series, they are filming series 3 now back to back with series 2. Series 3 will be the last.

:cheer: Ashes To Ashes

oh wait :nocheer: another 'gasmic program i'll miss being down under.

:( The US version of Life On Mars is beyond horrific.

Good to know.... Really enjoyed the first series... Unlike Norma, I actually thought that "Ashes to Ashes" was better than "Life on Mars".... Maybe because of it being set in the 80s and growing up at that time I probably identified with it a lot more than "Life on Mars", but generally I just thought that the stories were better as well.. It seemed to have a rather tougher edge to it as well.....

I really like Keeley Hawes in this as well.....

The producers of Dr Who have seriously missed a beat in not choosing her as the Companion imo..... Mind you, maybe she doesn't have time to do both shows.... Good to see Philip Glenister back to doing what he does best after that godawful "Demons" rubbish, where it was bloody obvious, he wasn't even trying.....

I have to say, Grim, I'm most surprised to see that you're a fan. :o I was expecting abuse! Fabulous though. I agree about Keeley Hawes, she's always a strong actress but she really shines in this. I think it works better than Life On Mars because that lacked any sort of female dynamic amongst the lead cast.

I dont think that's true mate.... What about Annie, the WPC who became the team's first WDC....? I thought she was a pretty strong character personally.... They never did really explain what happened to her actually.....

But obviously no comparison to Keeley, and frankly, she even managed to outshine Glenister's Gene Hunt on a fair few occasions... Something that I never felt that John Simm really achieved in the original, he always seemed a little to "in awe" of Hunt, whereas Keeley Hawes' character just tears into him far more effectively....

Dunno why you're so surprised tbh.... I've always said that I like well-made, well-written dramas with good acting..... "Ashes to Ashes" is certainly that..... ;)

I actually preferred the music used in Ashes to Ashes, but the drama, acting, script and general idea for LOM was far better (IMO). But I did like Keeley Hawes and she did outshine Philip Glenister at times (in fact - a lot) which is probably why I prefer LOM - I too, like Sam Tyler, am in awe of Gene Hunt!

Hmmm, maybe I just prefer strong, wilful, sexy female characters who dont take any sh"t.....

Gene Hunt is a great creation though, no doubt about it... Part Jack Regan from "The Sweeney", part PC George Dixon, part Sipowitz from "NYPD Blue" and part the "sarge" from "Hill Street Blues" in terms of his inspirational leadership and his paternal feelings for the "lads" under his command.....

And, tbh, I much preferred the ending of series 1 of Ashes to Ashes... For me, it was far more dramatically and emotionally satisfying than Sam just saying to himself "modern life is a bit dull and cr@p, so I'll jump off this building so I can play The Sweeney with my mate Gene again..."....

OH GAWD, you're kidding right....? The Americans did a version... Oh dear..... I bet it was about as successful as that godawful version they did of The Office....

That's the thing I find about the US, either their shows are absolutley fukkin' dreadful and the absolute WORST kind of dreck on the planet, or they're like Lost, The Wire, Generation Kill, The Sopranos, Supernatural, Dexter, Mad Men, etc, and can absolutely tower over everything and everyone else's efforts.....

Yeah the Americans ruined another one of our classics.

Channel Ten in Australia shows it amongst other horrific programs. I was almost physically sick watching it. They really did rape it.

So yeah, LOM-USA is most certainly the former.

Channel 10 are one of Australia's 3 evils in Telecom. The others being Telstra and my horrificly bad ISP Star-Tech. [our flat as decided to call them Tenstra-Tech for short]

I can't stress enough how bad it is. It's just wrong.

They'd better not touch Ashes to Ashes, i prefer that to LOM personally and would either break down emotionally or go on a murder spree in the US if they remade it.

I'd add CSI and Charmed to your list. Nothing can beat CSI, it has inspired my entire generation to become CSI's :heehee: and as a supernatural drama, Charmed was very good, by far my favourite TV show.

Loved it! Just a great show. Some fantastic laugh-out-loud moments (the strip tease) and so much intrigue. WOO.

 :nocheer:

If i'm lucky this may just appear on some form of non BBC iPlayer media, but i doubt it.

brilliant episode, are they really making a third series? i think they should move on to 1991 in the next series. lol.

Solid opening episode to the new series.... Keeley Hawes looking sexier than ever....

I like the sub-plot actually, the idea that a second person from the 00s is in there with her, throws up some interesting possibilities which I hope the scriptwriters capitalise on as well as they did with the last episode of the first series.....

The early 90s might be an interesting idea for another spin off.... Thing is though, Bowie went seriously off the boil in the late 80s/90s, so what the hell would you call the show....?

Maybe they could switch bands, call it "I Am The Resurrection" (after the Stone Roses song) and set it in 1990......

yeh they should move on to the 90's next time and then the 00's when 2013 comes around.
