friday nights for years used to be a dead cert for some great comedy shows, but recently theres practically nothing humourous on at all... the only laughs come from the occassional quip in emmerdale or corry...

its a sad state of affairs when the soaps are the highlight on a friday evening. theres nothing better then a damn good laugh to end the week/start the weekend with. ok i see have i got news for you is returning next friday, but tbh even thats getting rather tired.

the roll call of friday night comedies over the years is second to none... father ted, royle family, harry enfield and chums, fast show, newman and baddiel, smack the pony, gimmie gimmie gimmie, eurotrash, GREEN WING :cheer:, to name but a few ....

BRING BACK CUTTING EDGE COMEDY ON FRIDAY EVENINGS PLEASE

It's because everyone's too busy getting ready to go out.

yyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssss , (thats a matter of opinion), the point of the thread was lamenting the lack of comedy on FRIDAY night as it is a great way to end the working week! and for at least 20 years friday nights have been home to some great comedy.

(actually...longer.... rowan and martins laugh in was friday night in 1969! )

  • 2 weeks later...

All down to arsehole execs and their obsession over viewer figures rather than actually creating a decent mix of television. Friday nights are chock-full of reality rubbish (that Swiss Family Robinson thing was one of the worst things I've ever seen), past their best chat shows (when was the last time Jonny Ross was actually worth watching?) and soaps (these used to be on twice a week tops - now look at them - then their omnibus editions clog up Sundays)

Pretty much all terrestrial TV channels are awful now and so are 99% of digital ones. The BBC didn't have to change to keep up with digital channels it was always head and shoulders above them...now it's becoming hard to tell them apart.

Well Have I Got News For You is on Fridays again at the moment, easily the funniest thing currently on terrestial TV.

true... but that awful 'harry and paul' programme bizarrely scooped the bafta , or whatever it was, the other week...

new comedy is pretty rubbish atm, theres no classic viewing, no cutting edge, side splittingly funny shows on tv. the best is watching one of the cable/satelite repeat channels.

but benidorm is due soon, now thats worth watching, otherwise watch emmerdale, theres often a laugh on that with the gently satirical characters they have created.

Eurotrash lol!

They show Gordon Ramsey kitchen nightmares on Friday night on channel 4 - not what I'd call comedy. Maybe channel 4 could show some simpsons or IT crowd etc.

I'd have to agree, the general state of Comedy is pretty poor tbh.... And it's not as if we dont have the talent... Just go down to The Comedy Store or Jongleurs and you'll see that this isn't true.... Problem is, that it's the same tired old "usual suspects" getting the breaks.... There IS some good stuff on BBC 3/4, but neither of these are exactly the same high profile as Beeb 1, ITV or C4.....

I can't remember what was in the category but I felt that none of them were deserved winners...
