April 30, 200916 yr I think you will find that its probably only £32m after the credit crunch ;) . On a more serious note, lets say he does up sticks and leave as is his right, then if he earns lets say £5m in a year and he pays 50% tax that is £2.5m give or take. If he leaves I guess he doesnt pay any UK tax. So excuse my ignorance but that means Darling is £2.5m more in the red, since the lazy long term workshy(I specifically exclude the recent unlucky unemployed, through no fault of their own, f***ing greedy bankers  ) he still has to pay out benefits to them, he won't cut his outgoings therefore he will have to put up taxes on you and me to fund it. So up goes income tax,or national insurance(let's not forget next year it goes up 0.5% on all of us), or he puts up duty on alcohol, fags or petrol. Worse scenario is all his luvie mates do the same and they all move to low tax Countries, they might be followed out the door by other rich folk, they won't pay tax here and the tax on the low paid goes up and up. Don't think that can't happen. Last time Labour put taxes up to ridiculous levels there was a massive exodus of rich people. Like it or hate it, if top rate tax is 40% or say 42.5% then the majority will stay and pay. At this present time the Countries tax affairs are so f***ed up we need every bit of tax collected, the last thing we need is the ones paying the most to leave and not pay anything. So wake up and smell the roses, you don't have to like the rich, you don't have to go and see their films, or buy their music, or read their books but to tell him to feck off is just stupid and childish. If you can come up with credible arguements to say how you would plug the drop in taxes then fine. This increase was done purely for political reasons and nothing else. The amount of tax raised is small in the scheme of things, probably between £2b and £7b at best, and only if everyone pays. It was a trap set for the conservatives to see if they would say they would reverse it ,therefore appeasing the rich or whether they would keep it, and thereby rubber stamping Labour policy. Labour have been in power for 12 years why wait until their last year in office to raise taxes, when it stated in their manifesto that they would not raise income tax at all. Mind you they have a habit of breaking manifesto promises recently....EU treaty vote???? I pay a lot of tax to this government, and generally I am happy for it to be spent on the National Health Service,Education etc. But I object to it going to the workshy as well, and to the waste in Whitehall(like second homes allowances and adult movies  , nuclear missiles, wars we dont want, stupid NH computers and ID cards. But he was perfectly happy to pay 60% tax under the Tories for nine years before they finally cut it to the ridiculously low rate of 40%. The new 50% rate will still be lower than most similar economies. When the top rate of tax was 40%, the highest earners tried to justify large pay rises by pointing out that 60% of it went in tax. Whn the top rate was cut to 40%, they gave themselves even larger pay rises. How does that work? Thirty or so years ago, most top executives were paid roughly 15-20 times the earnings of the average member of staff in their company. Now, it's nearly 100 times. In other words, they get paid in one year roughly two times what the average member of staff will get paid in their entire working life. Do they contribute as much to the company in six months as the average member of staff does in a lifetime? NO.
April 30, 200916 yr Norma, You should seriously think about stand up comedy or write a book and the you will become a 50% taxpayer. I would buy your book :cheer: I'm just so tired of people like Michael Caine and Andrew Lloyd 'face like boiled sh/te' Webber! They want Britain to be a better place with an educated youth and a fair health system and a decent society ... but they don't want to help pay for it. I say let them f*ck off and take those sh/tehawks Paul Daniels and Jim Davidson with them. Its just so depressing! It makes me want to bugger off to Mexico! But not until I've seen Take That in June! Norma but thats not the point caine was making..... he was angry about so much of his taxes going to fund layabouts lifestyles, which as a taxpayer i fully agree with him on. ive not heard him complain about paying taxes to fund a better society, just this one huge area of tax waste.
May 1, 200916 yr Thirty or so years ago, most top executives were paid roughly 15-20 times the earnings of the average member of staff in their company. Now, it's nearly 100 times. In other words, they get paid in one year roughly two times what the average member of staff will get paid in their entire working life. Do they contribute as much to the company in six months as the average member of staff does in a lifetime? NO. Actually, it's more like 400 times according to one study that I read.... And you're totally right, they simply do not deserve such ridiculously high remuneration packages, especially seeing as how it's all abundantly clear that they're scamming the books, burying "Toxic Debts", etc and making out to the auditors that things are going better than they are in reality... They are a bunch of fukkin' crooks and spivs and the whole lot of them should be locked up in jail for as long as Ronnie Biggs got for robbing that train..... Frankly, I've got more respect for Ronnie Biggs and other blaggers than I do for Fred Goodwin and his cronies, at least the the money THEY nicked was insured and people didn't lose their pensions, jobs and life savings...... <_< <_<
May 1, 200916 yr but thats not the point caine was making..... he was angry about so much of his taxes going to fund layabouts lifestyles, which as a taxpayer i fully agree with him on. ive not heard him complain about paying taxes to fund a better society, just this one huge area of tax waste. Well howabout "as a taxpayer" you actually reserve some of your vehement criticism for the likes of Broon and Darling who've fukked up this economy for the next generation through debt and mismanagement..... People like you always blame the poor mostly (and I'm not saying that these "life long dolies" are blameless, but the current circumstances we find ourselves in have really nothing to do with their actions or inactions....) and let the rich and powerful get away with it.... You're supposed to be WORKING CLASS Rob, it should be hardwired into your genes to hate the rich and priveleged......
May 1, 200916 yr But he was perfectly happy to pay 60% tax under the Tories for nine years before they finally cut it to the ridiculously low rate of 40%. EXACTLY... Which kind of torpedoes Robs and Bri's points..... Or maybe Mr Caine is going a bit senile in his old age and has forgotten all about that...... Pillock..... Nah, he was happy with the Tories probably cos he voted for the b/astards..... Which just makes him one big 'Working Class Traitor' in my book.....
May 1, 200916 yr If you agree that putting VAT to 15% was a bad idea on the grounds that it won't do much (which i think it was) then surely it's a bit hypocritical if you complain about putting VAT up 1% more than before? I think "c**ts" is a bit of a strong word there. -_- The word "c/unts" if anything, isn't strong enough to describe Nu Labor, and particularly Broon and Darling..... <_< And, how is it "hypocritical" exactly....? My point is that these buggers were making out like they were doing us all the HUGE, big favour by lowering VAT, well, sorry, but what a pile of sh!te that is if you're just gonna hike it up even FURTHER a year later, it's evident that it was just a total scrap from the table...... giving with one hand, and then mugging you a little while later when you can least afford it..... Dont you actually realise that VAT/Stealth taxes is the absolute WORST thing that you can do to an ordinary, working class or unemployed person.... and there is NO WAY of really avoiding it, not if you actually want stuff like heating, lighting, water, food..... You know, the LUXURIES..... <_< <_< <_< You give me ONE GOOD FUKKIN' REASON why the ordinary working man should be happy about paying taxes and NI at a higher rate because of that b/astard Broon doing away with the 10% tax rate, and then having to pay these b'astards even MORE on top for gas/leccy/water/phone/internet/food bills... The poorest in our society are having to put up with proportionally worse tax hikes than the likes of Caine and Lloyd Webber.... The working classes have a right to complain and to be angry, the rich do NOT.....
May 1, 200916 yr He was labelling everyone who is unemployed or on disability benefit as "bone idle layabouts". That is ignorance of the highest order and a gross insult to the hundreds of thousands made redundant over the last few months. For most of the time that awful woman was PM the top rate pf tax was 60% and unemployment was higher than it is now. I don't remember Caine whingeing then. This man is worth a reputed 35 million quid. This country is now heavily in debt, mostly due to the collapsed banks, not profligate government spending. The gap has to be plugged somehow and some people (M Caine for instance) are in a better position to help do so than most of us. If he wants to leave then good riddance and he can hand back his knighthood on his way out. FULL TRUTH....
May 1, 200916 yr but thats not the point caine was making..... he was angry about so much of his taxes going to fund layabouts lifestyles, which as a taxpayer i fully agree with him on. ive not heard him complain about paying taxes to fund a better society, just this one huge area of tax waste. I agree that there are some people who 'work the system' as far as benefits go. But then again ... there are lots of rich people who can afford the best accountants to 'work the loop-holes' to ensure that no matter how high the taxes .... they'll always end up better off. Besides ... unlike the rest of us ... they have the luxury of just being able to take off and go and live somewhere else! Then again ... maybe there should just be 10% tax for everyone - even those on £20 million a year. We could then all sit back as crime soars and ordinary, decent people would have no choice but to resort to crime to live a 'liveable' life. Yes the country could all go to hell in a hand-basket ... but it'll be worth it as we'll still have true 'artistes' such as Michael Caine on our shores! But do you know what ... nothing would please some of these people. As the saying goes 'Much Gets More' and 'Much Will Always Want More' - that Dyson 'sh*t-bagless' vaccuum cleaner bloke proves that! Norma

Besides ... unlike the rest of us ... they have the luxury of just being able to take off and go and live somewhere else! Spot on... The rich "play the system" far more than the poor do, and white collar crime has cost this country FAR more than a bunch of blokes armed with shooters going into a bank and robbing it, or Sharon and Wayne fiddling the dole..... The crimes of the rich is what's brought this country to its financial knees, not the relatively minor crimes of the poor, which is something the likes of Caine totally fail to take into account.... Banks have robbery insurance, what they dont have is "Chairman of the board presenting false figures and totally fukking everything up" insurance..... Oh, mind you, I suppose they do in a way, only it's not called "insurance", it's called "muggings the taxpayer bailing your asses out of the royal mess you got us all into..." innit? <_<
May 1, 200916 yr I'll tell you where a lot of it's been going for the past 5 or 6 years..... On bloody wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that NO BUGGER WANTED; on an NHS IT system (over £40 billion and counting) THAT DOESN'T FUKKIN' WORK; On a bloody ID card system, that, again NO SOD WANTS; and ever increasing billions on bloody Trident nukes..... <_< As to your second point.... SPOT ON...... But I think in the case of the Houses of Parliament he should pump poison gas into it during PM question time, why destroy a perfectly beautiful piece of architecture..... :lol:Urgh They don't listen to us, they have been countless demonstrations against all of those bar the NHS IT system. How the f*** can a system cost $80billion i do System Design and Analysis as one of my courses right now, and i did Computing at high school and the only way it can go that wrong is if the client is an asshole and changes what he want out of the system frequently and after it's gone into the implementation stage Good point, gas the f***ers, might be a bit more painful and it leaves a building for the new lot.

How the f*** can a system cost $80billion i do System Design and Analysis as one of my courses right now The whole sorry episode was actually documented extremely well in a Private Eye special investigation..... Basically you have a bunch of incompetent "programmers" who couldn't write code for toffee being paid all this money to design a system that doesn't work, and it just escalated and escalated..... There's a lot of these so-called "design gurus" who exist on a reputation they dont deserve....

My earnings barely reached £7k last year, i have to pay that new level of NI and tax and then i have to pay Petrol tax, VAT and christ knows what other hidden taxes. It's a wonder i can pay my accommodation bills and live with whats left. Going through Uni without a student Loan is bloody hard, after two years i'm at the point where i may actually need one after losing about £2/3k in wages by being in Australia and the Huge bonus Morrisons staff got for the massive increase in customer numbers, market share and profit. Especially over xmas where we owned everyone else. Literally. I work my ass off and all i get is an increased NI rate, and now a VAT increase. I'd say c**ts is too weak. Especially when we pay VAT on almost everything

Jesus! I mean, sorry, but come on Rob, how on earth can you say that M Caine and his ilk have anything to complain about when you read this post.....? you idiot.... that post PROVES my point! people are being taxed like fcuk partly to pay for benefit scum. (the blaggers, not the genuine). and i dont see why michael caine shouldnt moan.. he has every right to do so.
May 1, 200916 yr Does he $h!te. Someone who is worth £35million has no need to complain about seeing 10% less of his fee. He can still afford to do everything he wanted to before the tax went up. Normal working class people who work there ass off have more right to moan about a tax rise than he will ever have. IMO, they should have had a 55% tax level to cut the tax slightly for those of us right at the bottom who are struggling to make ends meet without getting into debt. I don't want to have a £3k debt attached to my name at 20, but because of selfish pricks like him and arsehole bankers and our useless pathetic government it's very likely i will, because unlike what the government like to think, my parents can't afford to support me through Uni. I don't know anyone who's parents can afford to support them. So Caine can shove his whine up his arse where it will quite obviously be joining your head.

May 1, 200916 yr You're supposed to be WORKING CLASS Rob, it should be hardwired into your genes to hate the rich and priveleged...... well thank god im not a neanderthal with entrenched, outdated and just plain STUPID notions as that! theres good n bad in ALL sectors of society, from the top downwards, from the rich to the poor, i have NO pre-disposition, no pre-judgement or PREJUDICE on anyone i meet. it says something really unpleasant about you if you believe that crap m8....
May 1, 200916 yr i dont suppose any of us are happy about it, but then again it was brown that originally introduced it several years ago! So, yet again, another example of "Robin Hood" one moment, robbin' b/astard the next, give the poor a few crumbs and then take the crumbs away... That's just plain fukkin' with people's heads.....
