I would've sent The Sound Of Arrows to XIII if I hadn't have found my eventual entry, but I was so unbelieveably in love with Discotheque, I wouldn't have changed for the world of me.

XIII was perfect for me really...all of the songs that did well (including Discotheque) were fantastic and the only song I preferred in the contest was Release Me, which beat me, which was quite justified...I remember the two songs being my top 2 at the time actually, before the voting had even started, so it was nice to see the BJSC top 2 result mirror the top of my own chart  :heehee:

selfish :P

 there are some maintstream ones which are super easy to find.

I can't say I have a secret to success (4 top tens out of 10 ain't exactly spectacular) but my desk is always covered in bts of paper with artists I 'quite like the sound of' scrawled all over and quite good songs... I always lose them but occasionally I find one and go 'that would be perfect for BJSC!' (ala Margaret, LIGHTS and Belinda).

I've just checked the bottom of the pile on my desk atm and this one caught my eye, I think it's from Dec/Jan time after I sent 'Ice' and I was looking for something as good

Actually - I did listen to a few songs the other day i thought would make good BJSC entries:

^With a Kelly Clarkson - MLWSWY type beats, sounds like a winner!

Old favourite!

my younger sister hates everything I like but my older sister likes nearly everything...in fact, she even liked Snalla Snalla :o :cheer:

I played her some of the ESC entries and she didn't like Fairytale or La Voix unfortunately but seemed to enjoy the songs from Slovenia (Love Symphony) and Montenegro (Just Get Out Of My Life) the most...maybe it's a sign of what the casual Eurovision watcher might like :o

I have flat mates that love Mira, so i can't wait to let them hear all the more recent stuff like Snalla and all the recent Rontvia tracks

don't you mean 'whenever we think we've got it, Mdice have got to it first' :kink:

:kink:

Can't say i have ever had that problem

Quite possibly why i'm yet to win

Ben (Mdice) is arguably the most on the ball contestant in BJSC, probably due to the amount of blogs he follows, so anyone looking for success would be wise to take a leaf out of his book...of his winners, I'm quite sure that the Katy Perry and Royksopp songs and probably the Brandy one would have been snapped up by somebody else within a few hours had he not got to them first. I don't think Mdice have a particular 'secret to their success' as Tyron put it, it's all about being the first to see potential in a song and grab it before somebody else does, and Ben is clearly finely tuned into what makes a good BJSC song ^_^

Same goes for me I guess...if I hadn't sent Love Song to IV, I'm sure somebody else would have sent it somewhere down the line...the real question is, why on earth did I wait until the April 2008 contest to send it when I'd been loving it (and it had already topped my chart) in December 2007  lucky I grabbed it just in time!

Ben is very on the ball, it's not often you find a great track that he hasn't heard.

The only song i've ever done what you did to Love story with is Cinderella Theory, i've been toying with sending them for 6months.

I dont know many. I found a few good tracks via Hype Machine this time, and Popjustice of course.

Popjustice gave me Cinderella Theory and Red Blooded Women.

Myspace gave me Lorelei

and a random blog gave me Haffi.

Myspace is a fantastic place to find things if you have the time/patience.

It's the truth haha. I follow 60+ music blogs and 30+ album blogs and check them daily. Most of them are indie centric but I do have a couple of mainstream ones to balance it all out. Though to be fair though, I don't specifically send songs just because they're upcoming singles (Every Little Earthquake for example), but in the pop world, usually an artist's best songs are their singles. But yep, most of my entries usually come from blogs...the only one I can think of who wasn't (recently) would be Isabel.

BJSC isn't as predictable as you think though. Honestly, it's all about the song. You can never win / do well solely based on an artist (as we've seen with Britney / Rihanna etc.) I guess I just have a good ear to what songs will do well. Like with Little Boots, I knew Earthquake would do better than say, Mathematics. You're not going to do well just because it's Little Boots (this has no relation to the current contest by the way, previous ones haha). Though I never in a million years saw MAGIC going top 2.

Very true, you can't predict BJSC, especially atm when each contest seems to have it's own distinct sound, that only really becomes apparent towards the end of confirmation.

I've found that album tracks can do quite well, mainly if they are from an album that's of a high standard or the label picks the wrong singles. [Gabriella Cilmi]

a few of my entries I have discovered via Popjustice's 'Song Of The Day' feature...M.A.G.I.C and Not A Love Song definitely were found by me there  at least if an excellent blog like Popjustice rates a song highly, you know it must have something going for her...of course they get it wrong sometimes - Sugababes' Girls was a song of the day there once

Song Of The Day

:kink: i like Girls, it's a great track imo, but it's a p*** poor single.

Most of the album would make a better single than Girls

anyway as much as I want to have time in my hand and search through all these blogs...unfortunately I dont, and sometimes thats why I think that I dont deserve to win lol, because there are a lot of you in here that put much more effort on finding songs...the only thing I discovered and most of u never heard of, was Petros , otherwise the other ones are always the ones that someone else was considering sending them, and of course the ones that I really like.

Which Alex song would you have gone for?

I found it to be a tough choice between Dizzy From The Ride and Don't Stop Looking.

I love Fake, but that was a no, no being on the release schedule and all.

:kink: i have it all in a word document

Looking back on it, I would probably have given Release Me some points now. But, M.A.G.I.C coming 2nd after getting my 12pts, and Discotheque coming 4th. Yes, it was an amazing contest to enter on.

lmao, that's all hideously ineligible scrawls

but yeh, it's a good idea if you have a rubbish memory like mine... the trouble is I can never remember where I put the paper

I wouldn't have gone for any at that time, I think it was the video for 'Fake' or maybe just some random picture but I remember she looked like Debbie Harry and so based on that fact only I had a quick check to see if there was anything special but didn't really like any of it. Apparently I missed one extremely good one though :o

I only ever use youtube to find songs if they're not on imeem, myspace or last.fm and I'm desperate. I thinkit's a little bit harder to find non-mainstream stuff there but that is a good idea! :o

I always use Youtube tbh to look for songs. But most of my entries have been kinda "mainstream". I think my most non mainstream entry was Tarkan and that DNQ... :(

I friend them on myspace

Oooh so you like Don't Stop Looking. :kink:

Half the stuff i've thought would be great i wouldn't enter now.

Like City Girls - O.M.G. i love it but it is so wrong for Ashton.

Originally i was going to sit on Lorelei until XVII but i couldn't wait so killed my plan and have now got some great reserves :kink:

Discotheque, sorry to keep bringing it up, was a pure YouTube discovery.

TBH that was a killer debut.

Such a great track

I said nothing to suggest such a thing did i? :kink:

but yeah i literally have hundreds of songs I consider for BJSC which at the time seem perfect but when I come back to them I always think OMG no way!

*looks up City Girls*
