A album, that`s been long in the waiting. The Eurovision Album stalls at 36, this week. Time for the Flashback, getting old this week...It`s May 1975! The top tv: DO NOTE: The figures for ratings up until 1976, were based on the whole house watching tv, and NOT individuals. 01 EDWARD THE SEVENTH 8.7m Homes 02 THIS IS YOUR LIFE 8.7 03 BLESS THIS HOUSE 8.7 04 CORONATION STREET (MON) 8.3 05 ARE YOU BEING SERVED? 7.7 06 CROSSROADS (MON) 7.7 07 LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR 7.7 08 NEWS AT TEN 7.4 09 CROSSROADS (TUES) 7.4 10 CROSSROADS (WEDS) 7.1 11 CROSSROADS (THUR) 7.1 12 THE MAIN CHANCE 7.0 13 CORONATION STREET (WEDS) 6.9 14 THE LONER 6.6 15 SALE OF THE CENTURY 6.6 16 SADIE, IT`S COLD OUTSIDE 6.5 17 SHUT THAT DOOR 6.5 18 KOJAK 6.4 19 SPECIAL BRANCH 6.4 20 THE DAVID NIXON MAGIC SHOW 6.3 Drama with Edward the 7th, topping them all in May 1975. Timothy West playing Edward, and Robert Hardy as Albert with Annette Crosbie (Mrs Meldrew) as Victoria. The producers of it, had to get approval from Queen Elizabeth II, to film at Windsor Castle. CROSSROADS raging to success after 11 years...You could even go out and buy a Crossroads Wedding Souvenir magazine, as Meg Richardson married Hugh Mortimer! The wedding in the show, even had Larry Grayson as a chauffer (Larry had his own comedy series too, with "SHUT THAT DOOR" at 17). The marriage in Crossroads did not last long...Hugh Mortimer got kidnapped by terrorists, and died while in captivity...the usual everyday soap stories, then! CORONATION STREET`s Albert Tatlock celebrated his 80th birthday, in the Rovers with a special cake with Annie Walker, Fred Gee, Bet Lynch, and long running Betty Turpin. BLESS THIS HOUSE was top sitcom, with Sid James, Diana Coupland in the lead roles...much nicked by today`s MY FAMILY. ARE YOU BEING SERVED was in it`s 3rd series, as BBC`s top sitcom in that department store "Grace Brothers", along with Mollie Sugden, Wendy Richard, John Inman, Arthur Brough, Frank Thornton, and the great Trevor Bannister as the junior "Mr Lucas". LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR was in it`s 6th series...testing race relations interestingly with words such as "white honky", and "nig-nog" coming out of the screen every week...couldn`t do it today! ;) But maybe we did have a better sense of humour then. THE MAIN CHANCE was a legal drama, telling us of the ups and downs of David Main (played by John Stride), and a host of one-liners/wise lines from John, such as "If I wanted to be loved, I`d have been a teddy bear!" Originally in the series, Kate O`Mara played his wife "Julia", but by 1971 they were seen to divorce. The series ran between 1969-75. THE LONER was a western series, starring Lloyd Bridges and created by Rod Sterling of "Night Gallery" fame. SADIE IT`S COLD OUTSIDE was another sitcom, starring Bernard Hepton, & Rosemary Leach as the "Potters". A married couple where, the Rosemary Leach character "Sadie" has become tired of the chores, and the husband spends all the time watching tv. He is frustrated as well, and they find all there dreams drying up...in vain of a kind of "One Foot In The Grave" a la 1975! KOJAK was doing the business with the lollipop sucking detective for the BBC, as SPECIAL BRANCH was a kind of show like "The Sweeney", starring Patrick Mower, & George Sewell. With the Sweeney doing the business in 1975 too, Special Branch came to an end after 6 years. David Nixon pulled the rabbits out of hats, along with Anita Harris on Monday evenings at 6.45 on ITV, ahead of Coronation Street and kept us all entertained until his untimely death in 1978, at just 58 of lung cancer. He was diagnosed in 1976, underwent treatment. They thought, this had cleared, but it returned 2 years later. Rick Wakeman gave us his English Rock Ensemble. 10CC performing at a venue, near you very soon. This album featured the likes of I`M NOT IN LOVE, LIFE IS A MINESTRONE etc. Justin Hayward & John Lodge out of the Moody Blues, became the Blue Jays. Shirley Bassey gave us her singles 57 - 74. Tom Jones celebrated 10 years of hits...although they had dried up! Barry White helped the baby-boom. Elton gave us his greates so far 1971-75. The Three degrees called the album, the same as the single. Did I tell the joke about the Three Degrees concert, when only one of them turned up? Everyone in the audience put on their coats...Well, it was minus 2 Degrees! :D Kraftwerk appeared on TOMORROW`S WORLD on tv, this helped them in Britain no end, the first electronic type band from Germany to enter the uk singles chart. Some long runners in the chart via Mike Oldfield, & the Carpenters. Bad Company gave us some more rockier type numbers such as "Feel Like Makin`Love". Tammy Wynette got her best out, and then hit #1 on the singles chart with a 1960s song, that was also covered by Clodagh Rodgers in 1971, after she lost the Eurovision Song Contest. Tangerine Dream were another German electronic band (formed in 1967). Noosha Fox (a lovely lady) appeared with her group Fox...the male members later had a hit on their own as Yellow Dog. Led Zeppelin had been in the chart since February with Physical Graffiti, and did have 3 weeks at #1. John Lennon failed to make the top 10, this time peaking at #14. WHISPERING GRASS was an old INKSPOTS song, out of the late 40s. Windsor Davies and Don Estelle doing their characters BSM Williams & Gunner "Lofty" Sugden, from tv series "It Ain`t `Alf Hot Mum". Gladys Knight covered Barbra Striesand`s 1974 hit. Showaddywaddy covered Eddie Cochran`s #2 hit from 1960. SEND IN THE CLOWN`S came from stage production "A Little Night Music". Tammy Jones won tv talent show "Opportunity Knocks", covering a Frank Sinatra song. ISRAELITES was re-issued from 1969. Mud covered Buddy Holly circa 1957. The Osmonds covered Franki Valli circa 1966. In turn Franki Valli re-did his 60s song. Eric Clapton probably had the oldest song ever, from 1909...a negro spiritual song by Fisk Jubilee Singers (and no rugby)! Bobby Goldsboro had a re-issue from 1968, that had the feat of peaking at #2 twice! Jackie Wilson had a hit over and over with "The Sweetest Feeling". John Lennon covered Ben E. King circa 1961. Bay City Rollers covered the Four Seasons...more Franki Valli connections there. A re-issue of a 60s song, that made it in 1971, also re-surfaced in 1975 by Tami Lynn. More greats in the charts for the late Minnie Riperton who passed away in 1981. Susan Cadogan also gave us reggae. Ian Hunter was originally with Mott The Hoople, going solo. Fox followed up "Only You Can". "Imagine Me Imagine You" stalled at #15, but they did get the top 3 again in 1976. Obviously, the Northern Soul feel was around, hence some of the re-release already mentioned. Retta Young sung with the "Young And Restless". "Sending Out An SOS" just snook into the top 30, and of course more original soul via the late Van McCoy on "The Hustle". On the "B" side of "The Hustle", lurks a song called "Get Dancin"...A song that was also a hit for the #13 group "Disco Tex And The Sex-O-Lettes"...very spooky! Coming up soon the latest top selling Single/Songs...First pre-order time! May 22, 200916 yr Bless This House, my top comedy show with Sid James, they don't make comedy shows like that no more, even Love Thy Neighbour was hilarious at the time, Rudolph Walker now can be seen in Eastenders
May 22, 200916 yr BEP and Pixie must be promising a thousand physicals. :D That doesn't change much though...
May 22, 200916 yr Wow, at the PSB on pre-orders. :cheer: That doesn't mean that it will automatically hit top 40 though. #47 looks realistic for the track. :(
May 22, 200916 yr Thanks Dave Wow, at the PSB on pre-orders. :cheer: That doesn't mean that it will automatically hit top 40 though. #47 looks realistic for the track. :( No, I really think (well, hope) it will scrape a top 30 place...
May 22, 200916 yr PSB - DYSMC is brilliant. I'm actually hearing it in places other than the chart show, unlike Love Etc.
May 22, 200916 yr I've not heard 'Did You See Me Coming?' anywhere outside of my own listening, but it's their best single in years I think. It's a shame they don't get any airplay or whatever no matter what they release.
May 22, 200916 yr Actually their airplay was quite decent on Love Etc, don't remember the exact position, but at least top 30. It's TV airplay was low though, and Radio 1 didn't air it :( DYSMC is already on the radio airplay chart too.
May 22, 200916 yr Author Let`s do the big finish. Gary Go enters at 26, as the Killers 7 inch only, only just nips in to the top 30. By the way (in case anyone asks), the #21 physical is Halo, and Beyonce (falling 1 place). Not too much different from the Combined chart in the Download top 20, apart from Soulja Boy being a place higher. (The top ten downloads, features as the final part of the dodgy Hit40uk, at 6.15pm on Sunday with Richard Clark). The Combined Physical/Download chart...Shall we do the top 60 rundown for a change? The top 70 brings us the likes of Flo Rida (Low), New Year Hit Makers, Dizzee Rascal/Calvin Harris, Demi Lovato, Steve Angelo, Eminem (Lose Yourself), Lenka, Someone called Michael Jackson, Lady GaGa (Paparazzi), More Eminem (Crack A Bottle)...Alex Swings Oscar Sings is just outside the top 70, as is Beyonce (Diva). NOTE: These charts are not Official Charts (though maybe close). They are based on Chart Show tv`s charts, but we added sales up to 3pm today...to make them the most up to date charts in Britain. ;)
May 22, 200916 yr Author Actually their airplay was quite decent on Love Etc, don't remember the exact position, but at least top 30. It's TV airplay was low though, and Radio 1 didn't air it :( DYSMC is already on the radio airplay chart too. Radio One are ageist, Tom...and should be done! No surprise really, as their average listener is about 12 years old!
May 22, 200916 yr New Year Hit Makers are actually chart eligible I see. Honey Ryder top 40! :D Haven't heard the song, but Honey Ryder is all fun.
May 22, 200916 yr Honey Ryder top 40! :D Haven't heard the song, but Honey Ryder is all fun. Could be higher than 40.
May 22, 200916 yr Could be higher than 40. Might even challenge top 30 at the rate it's going. Late start though. (unless sales were missing in the mids.
May 22, 200916 yr Author New Year Hit Makers are actually chart eligible I see. Honey Ryder top 40! :D Haven't heard the song, but Honey Ryder is all fun. New Year Hit Makers might not be eligible officially. But we don`t have any rules, so I included it anyway!
May 22, 200916 yr Radio One are ageist, Tom...and should be done! No surprise really, as their average listener is about 12 years old! True  Terrible for Jade BTW :snif: but I'm glad how Alexander is holding up :D
May 22, 200916 yr Tami Lynn's "I'm Gonna Run Away From You" from 1975 was great but most of that chart was awful and "Stand By Your Man" was a dreadful number one... whereas "Bonkers" is a great number one from 2009!
