June 14, 200916 yr NO why do u all moan about it GORDON A or O is a c**t we cant change anything so get over it live with it and suffer simple, moaning gets you no where ect. Great, let us sit on our hands and discuss the weather and how wonderful it was today, or the fact that in Autumn, the leaves of the trees go orange then fall off or the fact that the sun goes down at about 10pm during the summer, and at 4pm during the winter and that we hate the darkness, the coldness, the snow and the morning frost that winter brings. Those are all things we CANNOT CHANGE. Here, even though we have very little say already... the fact that we can say, we can complain and if we do enough we could force some kind of change is enough to actually discuss it, no? Compared to my earlier paragraph anyway...

June 15, 200916 yr No different to what B-Liar did though He inherited a strong economy from Major and pretty much tried to claim all the credit for himself nonsense.... it WASNT a strong economy, if it was the tories wouldnt have lost. interest rates came down under blair/brown, the economy stabalised under blair/brown, my standard of living improved under blair/brown ...

No offence, but why did you come onto a Politics, etc, Forum to post this totally pointless, barely literate and irrelevant rubbish.....?
June 15, 200916 yr The MPs have become unaccountable to the people because of public apathy. If you ask for nothing, you get just that! For decades the people have by and large had no interest in politics at any level and haven't bothered writing to their representatives to enquire about the things that do concern them. I've always found that my MPs (Labour and SNP alike) have found out what I wanted to know and/or have tabled questions to the ministers concerned. Usually I'd get an immediate acknowledgement and some indication of what steps the MP intended to take to answer my concerns and later a full response or incremental ones as he/she pursued it. I have absolutely no concerns about my local councillors either. The times of their surgeries are published in many places and they ensure that they or a close representative is there for the full time span and note down all details. They also attend many different community groups and give a monthly report. If more people found their political voice, more would be seen to be done. In my experience, anyone who expresses concerns/argues a case and remains resolute and persistent eventually gets the ear of someone who can make a difference.
June 16, 200916 yr The MPs have become unaccountable to the people because of public apathy. Certainly cant argue with that.... Look at the figures - Voter turnout in elections a couple of weeks back in UK was barely even 30%, in Iran it was 85%..... Says it all really.....

Says it all really..... The Iran election was as credible as Bush's win in 2000 or Mugabe's wins Most of those 85% I would say were threatened and intimidated into voting for the current president and therefore voted out of fear
June 16, 200916 yr Yeah but that was a local/Euro poll and it'll be a lot higher in the General Election. The last Gen Election poll was barely over 60% Chris..... Still a pretty low figure in comparison to Iran...... And besides, it's no excuse, a vote's a vote, and apathy is apathy.... It was Apathy that managed to get the fukkin' seats for the BNP..... Oh, but of course, you probably voted for these c/unts didn't you.....? <_<

June 17, 200916 yr The MPs have become unaccountable to the people because of public apathy. If you ask for nothing, you get just that! Part of the problem is that too many people want two completely contradictory things from politicians. People complain that politicians never listen to what people want. But when they do and parties change policies in response to this, the same people complain that there isn't enough difference between the parties.
June 17, 200916 yr Yeah but that was a local/Euro poll and it'll be a lot higher in the General Election. Erm no I didn't vote actually. Well not if lots of people follow you and don't vote
