Hit40uk is being scrapped. Some stations dumping the chart altogether, others taking a new one called The Big Top 40

I can't see it happening yet, but the commercial radio sites can confirm the scrapping for sure.

Very interesting. I actually thought the Hit 40 UK was fine in theory but it ended up being a total mishmash of sales and airplay, and could never decide which was more important... The Big Top 40 sounds very interesting though...

Yeah, the Telegraph article is interesting actually, because it explains how it will work (11-40 like the current Hit 40 UK, top 10 changing in real time as per iTunes), but I don't know how the second part will work, because songs could end up being top 10 before their official release date (BEPs and Dizzee would have been I think)...

They need to scrap Airplay totally! In that case they had just as well countdown the top 40 iTunes Chart in full...What a waste of 3 hours, a shame because Richard Clark is a good presenter...and even worse, they are teaming him up with a co-host! How stupid can they get! Don`t they realise, that`s why Radio One is currently hated because of the 2 twits that present it?!!!

They've gone completely the wrong way with this! What they should have done is to extend what they do with the Top 10 at the moment and count down the Top 40 downloads - given the small number of physical sales it will extremely close to the Radio 1 countdown.

 

And as Dave says why bring in another presenter? Did they not remember screwing things up last time they had 2 hosts.

Independant Radio have the people, but won`t come up with the goods, for some inexplicable reason.
