Sean Bean starred as gamekeeper "Mellors". As Joely Richardson played "Lady Chatterley". The BBC were criticised for apparently showing it at 9.35pm. Up to Cardale (the fictional Derbyshire village), for PEAK PRACTICE...the story of small GP Practice in the Dales. FREDDIE STARR suddenly turned into a Benny Hill type show on Wednesday evenings. 999 reconstructed real emergency stories for BBC1. STARS IN THEIR EYES pulled them in, as Matthew Kelly replace Leslie Crowther (who had been involved in a major car accident at the end of 1992). The 7th series of "THROUGH THE KEYHOLE", as Sir David Frost/Lloyd Grossman took us through more celebrity homes. Originally on ITV, the show moved to Sky in 1996, then resurfaced on BBC1 as an afternoon daily show. BRIAN CONLEY got his comic act together for Saturdays, and it definately was "A Puppet!" STEEL MAGNOLIAS turned up on ITV...revolving round that beauty parlour in Lousiana, where a group of close-knit friends lives come together. It starred the likes of Sally Field, and Dolly Parton. NICKY CAMPBELL brought us the 7th Series of "WHEEL OF FORTUNE"...the game show where 3 contestants pick letters to solve clues for puzzles, in vain of Hangman. Back to the American West and Colarado in the 1860s, for Jane Seymour in "DR QUINN MEDICINE WOMAN". There she sets up her own practice. This was Season One of Six, showing on Friday nights on ITV. FANTASTIC FACTS was an ITV series made by Yorkshire TV, where Jonathan Ross tells us about some interesting things about people/things in general. THe England/Brazil game was the U.S. Cup in Washington, that finished in a 1-1 draw. And Neighbours did not really get 9.90 viewers for a single episode...it was actuall 5m! The 2 showings joint together got the 9.90! The Top Albums in June 1993: 01 01 JANET - JANET JACKSON 02 03 AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE - R.E.M. 03 06 NO LIMITS - 2 UNLIMITED 04 02 KAMAKIRIAD - DONALD FAGEN 05 NE TOO LONG IN EXILE - VAN MORRISON 06 11 UNPLUGGED....AND SEATED - ROD STEWART 07 16 POCKET FULL OF KRYPTONITE - SPIN DOCTORS 08 04 DREAM HARDER - WATERBOYS 09 05 FATE OF NATIONS - ROBERT PLANT 10 08 NOW 24 - VARIOUS 11 10 SO CLOSE - DINA CARROLL 12 07 BREATHLESS - KENNY G. 13 15 ORIGINALS - VARIOUS 14 09 ENERGY RUSH PHASE 4 - VARIOUS 15 26 UTAH SAINTS - UTAH SAINTS 16 NE NEVER LET ME GO - LUTHER VANDROSS 17 12 HITS 93 VOL. 2 - VARIOUS 18 14 KEEP THE FAITH - BON JOVI 19 18 MORE ABBA GOLD-MORE ABBA HITS - ABBA 20 NE WOMAN TO WOMAN - VARIOUS JANET JACKSON got a new deal with Virgin and a #1 album, to boot. R.E.M. were around all year, yo-yoing all over the shop. 2 UNLIMITED had to be content with a #3 album, as that Techno beat went on and on and on!! DONALD FAGEN...the ex-STEELY DAN star, just missed the #1 album to Janet. VAN MORRISON got another top 5 album. ROD STEWART couldn`t quite take his Unplugged into the top 5. The SPIN DOCTORS gave some singles, though the album peaked at #5. Both the WATERBOYS and ROBERT PLANT were back with new albums, both selling almost equally. NOW 24 was off a #1. ORIGINALS gave us some originals of recent remade hits via the likes of GERRY RAFFERTY etc. KENNY G gave us more easy sounds. We took an ENERGY RUSH PHASE 4 on the dancefloor. UTAH SAINTS noisily hit up the top 20. The late LUTHER VANDROSS took a low place in the 20. ABBA gave us more of their hits, but couldn`t match the success of multi-selling ABBA GOLD. WOMAN TO WOMAN gave us all those female acts, like BEVERLY CRAVEN etc. June 1993`s Singles: 01 02 CAN`T HELP FALLING IN LOVE - UB40 02 01 ALL THAT SHE WANTS - ACE OF BASE 03 09 WHAT IS LOVE - HADDAWAY 04 NE DREAMS - GABRIELLE 05 04 TWO PRINCES - SPIN DOCTORS 06 06 CAN YOU FORGIVE HER - PET SHOP BOYS 07 03 GONNA MAKE YOU SWEAT - INNER CIRCLE 08 21 TEASE ME - CHAKA DEMUS 09 18 DO YOU SEE THE LIGHT - SNAP 10 10 IN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES - LISA STANSFIELD 11 05 THREE LITTLE PIGS - GREEN JELLY 12 07 SHOUT - LOOCHIE LOO/MITCHIE ONE 13 08 I DON`T WANNA FIGHT - TINA TURNER 14 NE FIELDS OF GOLD - STING 15 25 NO ORDINARY LOVE - SADE 16 14 TRIBAL DANCE - 2 UNLIMITED 17 16 BLOW YOUR MIND - JAMERIQUAI 18 11 FIVE LIVE E.P. - GEORGE MICHAEL 19 NE DELICATE - TERENCE TRENT DARBY 20 15 EVERYBODY HURTS - R.E.M. 21 13 JUMP AROUND - HOUSE OF PAIN 22 28 HUMAN WORK OF ART - CLIFF RICHARD 23 12 THAT`S THE WAY LOVE GOES - JANET JACKSON 24 NE SATELLITE - THUNDER 25 20 IN THESE ARMS - BON JOVI 26 19 TURN - THERAPY 27 17 DARK IS THE NIGHT - A-HA 28 36 THINKING OF YOU - SISTER SLEDGE 29 NE RESURRECTION - BRIAN MAY/COZY POWELL 30 22 BREAK IT DOWN - TEARS FOR FEARS 31 31 FROM DESPAIR TO WHERE - MANIC STREET PREACHERS 32 23 JUNGLE BOOK GROOVE - JUNGLE BOOK CAST 33 24 HOUSECALL - SHABBA RANKS/MAXI PRIEST 34 27 WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW - BRYAN FERRY 35 NE QUEEN JANE - KINGMAKER 36 29 LORDS OF THE NEW CHURCH - TASMIN ARCHER 37 NE ULTIMATE HIGH - TIME FREQUENCY 38 IN YOUR EYES - NIAMH KAVANAGH 39 NE BUDDY X - NENEH CHERRY 40 43 IN A WORD OR TWO - MONIE LOVE 41 NE HUMAN BEHAVIOUR - BJORK 42 NE MORE THAN LIKELY - PM DAWN/BOY GEORGE 43 35 BLACK TIE WHITE NOISE - DAVID BOWIE 44 46 ALL FUNKED UP - MOTHER 45 26 CREATION - STEREO M.C`s 46 41 GET HERE - Q AND TRACY ACKERMAN 47 30 I WANNA HOLD ON TO YOU - MICA PARIS 48 32 I HAVE NOTHING - WHITNEY HOUSTON 49 NE LOVE IS STRONGER THAN DEATH - THE THE 50 NE BUSY BEE - UGLY KID JOE Into the last 7 weeks of the Original Network Chart in 1993, and indeed much better days for Independant Radio. Here in 2009, Independant Radio in trouble, and also former chart supplier MRIB itself, facing liquidation. In 1993, UB40 covering ELVIS/ANDY WILLIAMS etc. ACE OF BASE had been #1 for 3 weeks. SPIN DOCTORS were all over the radio...almost every time you switched on! INNER CIRCLE had a re-issue of the 1992 earlier minor hit. GABRIELLE was possibly the most played hit that Summer, and "Dreams" had 3 weeks at the top too. She was beating off HADDAWAY and "What Is Love" (which only peaked at 2). Better days for the PET SHOP BOYS...Still remembering September 1993, when the boys were robbed of the Official #1 by JAZZY JEFF AND THE FRESH PRINCE and the ghastly "Boom Boom Shake The Room". Thank goodness MRIB had "Go West" ahead of that! Lot of songs in here I personally detest CHAKA DEMUS, LOOCHIE LOU/MITCHIE ONE, less said! GREEN JELLY were interesting and blew their houses down! LISA STANSFIELD was definately "In All The Right Places" peaking at 7. SNAP! got a minor top ten hit...which I have totally forgotten! Half of these records couldn`t have even been heard since 1993...What a shame Radio One don`t do a retro 1990`s Chart Show. JAMERIQUAI was trying to impress his STEVIE WONDER sound on us. SADE got some Radio 2 Airplay...and 1993 brought TERRY WOGAN back to the Airwaves. So, a good thing for STING! 2 UNLIMITED we`d had enough of the same old beat! TERENCE TRENT DARBY returned and it was "Delicate, Like Rain". HOUSE OF PAIN are still jumping around 16 years later. JANET JACKSON was held off #1, by GEORGE MICHAEL some weeks previously. I`m still singing the well forgotten CLIFF record, "Human Work Of Art" fell at 22. Dark Is The Night sang A-HA...I don`t remember that either. SISTER SLEDGE came in with a re-issue. "Thinking Of You" was actually the B side of "Lost In Music" in 1979, but was re-issued as a follow up to it in 1984. Then both appeared again in 1993. Almost forgot that BRIAN MAY teamed up with the late COZY POWELL...fantastic stuff. Another piece of rhyme for the MANICs, as they got stuck and peaked. Jungle Book Groove was a messed around medley thing from the cast of the Disney Production. BRYAN FERRY did an album of covers. "Will You Still Love Me" was his single that went to 25 on the MRIB top 50. It`s very likely that (apart from WHITNEY HOUSTON), the 31 - 50 on this chart haven`t been heard at all since 1993, too. Finding it hard to remember any of them, apart from TASMIN ARCHER`s floppy follow up. Did BOY GEORGE really team up with PM DAWN? I must have been out that week! MICA PARIS has her new album out, back here in 2009. Q & TRACY ACKERMAN could have been a High Street shop, for all I know! A re-make of the OLETA ADAMS song? And UGLY KID JOE`s "Busy Bee", make`s me think I must have been in 1993! ;) Just ahead of the singles charts, here are this week`s pre-orders: The Top Pre-Order Singles 01 MAMA DO - PIXIE LOTT 8th 02 BULLETPROOF - LA ROUX 22nd 03 SAID IT ALL - TAKE THAT 15th 04 PARANOID - JONAS BROTHERS 8th 05 HEAVY CROSS - GOSSIP 15th 06 WAKING UP IN VEGAS - KATY PERRY 8th 07 NOT THE ONLY PERSON - RUMBLESTRIPS 29th 08 15 MINUTES - YEAH YOUS 22nd 09 MAKE LOVE - PATRIZIO BUANNE 22nd 10 RAINDROPS - BASEMENT JAXX 22nd 11 BEAT AGAIN - JLS 13th July 12 RABBIT HEART RAISE IT UP - FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE 22nd 13 TONIGHT`S THE NIGHT - MARC EVANS 8th 14 HEARTBREAK ME A DANCER - FREEMASONS/SOPHIE ELLIS BEXTOR 22nd 15 STONE COLD SOBER - PALOMA FAITH 15th 16 WHEN LOVE TAKES OVER - DAVID GUETTA/KELLY ROWLAND 15th 17 BE THE ONE - JACK PENATE 15th 18 PEACE - DEPECHE MODE 15th 19 HOLD ON - LAZEE 22nd 20 WALKING ON A DREAM - EMPIRE OF THE SUN 6th July Pixie heading to a #1?
