Humbug? Definitely a bit odd, but I like it a lot!

Pleased they haven't just used one of the song's titles for the name of the album.

bit of a $h!t title tbh.

I really wasn't keen on the title at first, but I quite like it now. It's a bit weird which I like. I definitely would like to know why it's being called this though... maybe there's a reference to it in one of lyrics to a track on the album?

Could it have something to do with "thee humbug" fanzine? Arctics were featured in it a lot before they got famous.

Google 'arctic monkeys thee humbug', you will see what i mean.

Good shout actually. Just Googled it. You could well be right. It could be a bit of a shout-out to their early rotes. At the moment that's the only logical explanation I can think of. God just looking at the fanzines now... is amazing how far they've come in 4 years.

Welcome to the forum by the way. :D

I LOVE the title LOL

First time James told me I was like " ". But then again I loved the title 'Favourite Worst Nightmare'

:o f***ing can't wait

Jo Whiley seems to think the first single is Crying Lightning (personally I hope not..)!

Still i've only heard a live version and not a HQ studio version.

I was lucky enough to be welcomed along to a secret underground bunker to listen to a very rare copy of Arctic Monkeys' third album. Now, I love Arctic Monkeys a lot and I was expecting great things from this today. I wasn't expecting what I heard though which isn't a bad thing as you should always do the unexpected.

It's very different and my worry is that hardcore fans of the sound of the first two albums won't like it because it will take several listens to get into it. It is a much more mature sounding album and it hasn't got the massive pop hits as the last two. Alex Turner is arguably the best lyricist around and his songwriting on this album is brilliant.

I think a lot of people will hear this album, stand around stroking their beards saying "Oh, yar, like this is so like the band like coming of age" - and to a certain extent, that's true but I was listening to it thinking "this does sound amazingly well made, and is more atmospheric and dark but - PLAY A HIT!"

What with Alex living in America most of the time, and some of the rest of the band being here in the UK, this might well be the last Arctic's album we see as he has expressed a view to go off and collaborate with loads of other people.

It's big news though and will sell millions.

:o Exciting!

I do quite like the standout hits though, I have to admit. And I really hope it won't be their last album! :(

I definitely think this album will be a bit hit and miss. On my first listen (much like FWN) i'm not expecting to be blown away. It's gonna take 7/8 listens for me to like the album as it's obvious the catchy pop hooks are not there as much. But I definitely think this album could suprise a lot of people who were drawn in by the hype and then weren't that impressed...

Interesting comment at the end about Alex wanting to go off and do his own stuff though... not sure how much to read into that.

NME editor's opinion on the album

Wow. First Arctics listen reaction: Dark. Heavy but swoopy. Surreal. Big but spacey. Brooding. Playful in parts. Mega drums. A move on again.

The album's artwork is going to be released on June 23rd!!!

New sigle being announced on Monday.

Not sure whether this means just an announcement, or whether the first play will be on Monday. Either way, might be an idea to listen to Zane Lowe just incase!

i like what the HMV editor said, i want a quite a Homme influenced record personally.

I'll definitely tune into Zane on Monday then.

Don't want to risk missing the first play!

I've heard a few things from a few different people, that the influence of Homme isn't actually that great. There's no offical word on how many of his tracks made the final cut, but from what i've heard I don't think it's many. Two or three at most I think.

Btw on the offical website, if you log in to your account and hover your mouse about between the homepage inbetween the 'news' and 'the view..' from section, you might be able to see a few secret hidden session clips of some of the new songs. :P
