Posted June 14, 200916 yr How did Lord Mandelson become the most important person in the Government? Not only has he been fired from office, not once but twice, he is not even an elected MP. He has just been given a title to allow him to sit in the cabinet. From today's Observer... Eight years ago - a very long time indeed in politics - a shroud-white Peter Mandelson sat in Tony Blair's study begging for his life. "Are you really telling me that you are going to end my political career over this?" he beseeched his friend. "Yes," replied the prime minister bleakly, but firmly. "I'm afraid I am." That summary dismissal, over the Hinduja affair, was the second time he was fired from the cabinet. His first death was triggered by Gordon Brown's assassination squad who took him out with the revelation of the Geoffrey Robinson home loan. Even Jesus Christ only got the one resurrection. No wonder Peter Benjamin Mandelson thought it was the end of his career in the frontline of British politics when he was dispatched from the cabinet for an unprecedented second time in New Year 2001. He now has the amazing title of....Baron Mandelson of Foy in the County of Herefordshire and Hartlepool in the County of Durham, First Secretary of State, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Lord President of the Council and Grand Vizier of all he surveys. I mean wtf! A few years ago Brown and Manderson hated each other with a vengeance. Now he sits there as Gordons's right hand man, but who is the monkey and who is the organ grinder ?
June 14, 200916 yr There is a saying, it is something like "better to have someone inside the tent p***ing out than outside the tent p***ing in" I think that sums up the situation, better keeping Mandy sweet than have him on the outside causing trouble and rocking the boat, total cock he may be but he is the most able person in the Labour party, the chief architect of B-Liar's first 2 wins Brown can't afford to have him rocking the boat so is trying to keep him sweet by giving him fancy titles Don't forget Maggie had Geoffrey Howe as Deputy PM even though they were on total opposite sides of the spectrum politically and we saw what happened when Maggie pissed Howe off
June 14, 200916 yr This is pretty much one of the main reasons why I've grown to hate Nu Labor - Mandy.... <_< The fact that Mandelson is so thoroughly corrupt but still manages to land on his feet, being so clearly protected by the Nu Labor hierarchy.... He was once called the "Minister Without Portfolio" - yeah, that's a politically correct way of saying no bugger voted for the c/unt..... And we wonder why Nu Labor is getting wiped out in the polls just now.... I think it's a pretty close tie between Nick Griffin, Gordon Broon and Peter Mandelson for my personal Most Hated Figure in UK Politics.....
June 14, 200916 yr I don't particularly like Peter Mandelson but it has to be said that he has shown himself to be a very competent minister in his previous jobs. Given a choice between competent ministers and likeable ones, I'll take the former every time.
June 14, 200916 yr Yeah he is a crook and a total c**t but he is probably the best politician of his era on any of the 3 parties, he is the main reason why Labour won the first 2 elections under B-Liar and it all went downhill for Labour after him and Campbell left B-Liar's side, much as I loathe the guy as a person the guy is a political genius

Answer, because no bugger would VOTE for him, ergo, Broon has to dream up some fancy title for the c/unt..... I cant believe that you're actually defending this completely irredeemable maggot who's a pustulating boil on the arse of British politics..... And Suedehead, how can he be "competent" when he's been fired for his crooked deals....? Green custard...? Should've been radioactive sludge that got thrown at him.....

He would not win a general election as Labour leader 1) He is a proven fraudster 2) He is a homosexual and Britain will not have a homosexual prime minister in my lifetime it will take generations to shake out the bigotry in this country
June 14, 200916 yr He would not win a general election as Labour leader 1) He is a proven fraudster 2) He is a homosexual and Britain will not have a homosexual prime minister in my lifetime it will take generations to shake out the bigotry in this country I dont mean as a leader... I mean, why doesn't he stand for public office as an MP in a DEMOCRATIC vote instead of having to rely on these machinations to get him back at the table... Is it just a fact that no one would vote for Mandelson even IN a "safe" Labour seat where they would vote for a corpse wearing a red rosette.....? I dont care that he's gay, I DO care that he's a worthless, crooked sack of sh!t who should be in PRISON, not getting a fukkin' Peerage..... <_< Aitken and Archer got sent down for committing far lesser crimes than Mandelson....

Two wrongs dont make a right in my book... Frankly, I'd abolish the Lords altogether and have an ELECTED second chamber.... A bit like the Senate.... And I repeat - Mandy's a crook, crooks should be in prison.... Otherwise what does that say about our morals as a nation...? we'll prosecute these working class guys who might fiddle their taxes or their benefits a bit, but let Mandelson and Co get away with massive frauds..... Doesn't say very much about us as a Nation....

Doesn't say very much about us as a Nation.... I have long advocated the abolition of the house of lords, like the monarchy it is an outdated relic of the class system that needs to be consigned to the dustbin of history I would have fully supported any arrest and charging of Mandelson but he wasn't arrested or charged so like Michael Jackson he is "innocent" in the eyes of the law and a free man even though everyone knows Mandy is as much of a crook as Jackson is a sex offender so in the eyes of the law Mandelson is free to ply his trade and do his job and Brown is better off keeping him under the thumb in the cabinet and sweetening him up with a fancy title than having him plotting and scheming with labour rebels wanting Brown out were I Brown I would keep Mandy as close as I could

What's the point in a working class drug dealer going "straight" if he sees people in authority being rewarded for breaking the law...? Naaah, sod that.... Our system is fukked up beyond all recognition and you know it..... I'm beginning to feel that I honestly cannot blame anyone working class or lower-middle class who fiddles the dole, their taxes or deals smack or whatever if they dont have any role models in authority that are worth a damn, or these crooked bankers who fukk up the country and get huge pension schemes..... The authorities are just as crooked and corrupt, if not more so, than the street dealers, pimps, hustlers, burglers, muggers and crack whores..... And frankly, there's more honesty in what the latter does..... This country has lost all sense of morals and decency, and it started with people like Mandelson.....

Aitken and Archer were guilty of attempting (and in Archer's case succeeding) to gain substantial sums of money by lying in court. If Aitken had won it could have destroyed the Guardian. I would consider that to be worse than omitting relevant details from a mortgage application form. I still maintain that Mandelson is a competent minister whatever his flaws as a human being. And, as has been said, he wasn't prosecuted so he remains innocent.
June 14, 200916 yr I don't actually have any problem with having a few unelected ministers. However, I don't like the fact that, under the present system, that can only be achieved by making someone a permanent member of the legislature. A government with a small majority may have, say, 330-340 MPs. Of those, some will be new MPs and so not really ready to be a minister. If the Tories win the next election with a small majority, the number of new MPs will be around 130-140, a substantial proportion of the total. Of the rest, some will not have any ministerial ambitions, others will be past it and others will simply not be up to it. So that leaves a relatively small pool of "talent" from which to appoint 100+ ministers. After all, many of the qualities required to be a good MP are very different from the qualities required in a good minister. I don't want us to go for the American system where none of the equivalent of ministers are elected representatives. Even if they are an elected representative at the time of the appointment, they have to give that up. As for an elected second chamber, yes I support that although I think there is some merit in having a small proportion of that chamber (a maximum of 20%) chosen by appointment. Any appointed members would only serve for a limited time and would be appointed for their expertise in a given area. Having said that, if the choice was between a wholly elected chamber and the status quo, I would obviously go for the wholly elected option.

He wasn't prosecuted because he was being protected.... Everyone knows he's a crooked b/astard regardless just the same as we all know that Jacko is kiddie fiddler..... Mandy's rich and he has powerful friends who are willing to back him to the hilt....

He was never convicted so you cannot call him what you just have. Libel laws cover the Net too. Edited June 14, 200916 yr by Crazy Chris
June 14, 200916 yr Mandy is the epitome of a Machiavellian politician isn't he? Personally every time he crops up on telly I feel my skin beginning to crawl. Oh and Scott, he would get elected. NuLabour just need to find him a nice safe seat in Glasgow. What about Michael Martin's old seat in Glasgow North? Despite, everything, recent polling shows Labour are 18% ahead of the Nats in that constituency. I ask you. As my dear departed dad used to say 'If they stuck a rid rosette on the butcher's dug thae hawf-wits wid still vote fur it' :P
June 15, 200916 yr Hope you know that statement about my idol Jacko is libellous Scott. . Anyone who sleeps in a bed with a child who isn't theirs is a dirty pervert in my book..... I mean, WHY????? And here's you "Mr Full Monty" stripping in front of 13 year old girls and then bragging on the internet about it... Tosser...... <_<

I was alerted to it by Cremey, when Chris had the nerve to slag me off for going out and clubbing in my mid-30s on my "God I'm So Fxxking Sore Today" thread in The Lounge.... Here's the original thread from which his sordid confession came.... http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...95240&st=20 He's now furiously backpeddling on it on MY thread, saying that "oh, it probably didn't happen, I was that drunk so I cant remember, my daughter may have been making it all up....".. Yeah, right..... He seemed pretty sure about it when he first mentioned it, now the likes of me, Mr Self Destruct (ie, NON-Crazy Chris..) and Craig are absolutely pillorying him and bringing up the Sex Offenders register, he starts to say it was all a joke and that he cant remember what happened..... Is it just me, or does this geezer need serious professional help....?
