June 26, 200916 yr LOL. How can his statement be taken seriously after this comment? She's an icon herself, but she's not even in Jacko's league (when comparing iconic status). absolute, utter rubbish. And I'm no fan of either artist. Whilst Jackson spent almost the whole of his career searching for the right producer (after Quincy Jones of course) and in dire need of a stylist (those brocade jackets! :puke2: White socks! :puke2: :puke2: LOAFERS?>!? :puke2: :puke2: :puke2: ) and career planner - Madonna has simply eased her way through a career that the word 'iconic' doesn't even do justice. OK, with the help of an army of producers, choreographers, stylists and management - but her career has left what is left of Jackson's in the shade...and has done for almost 2 decades. OK, Jackson could moonwalk and no some nifty steps - but in a 30 year career, he released 2 great albums and a handful of superb videos and... well... that's it, really. After his fabulous work on Motown, Off The Wall and Thriller... well... hardly a career of note, of substance or of any interest, really. More of the same, each album, video, 'look', surgery, controversy, more toe-curling and mortifying than the last. To even try to compare the careers of Madonna and Jackson is ludicrous - Jackson hasn't even HAD a career since the early 90s. But this isn't a bitchfest - this is supposed to be a memorial - so I'll reign in now... but I HAD to answer that inane comment by AAC.
June 26, 200916 yr Best post about Jacko so far :cheer: I salute you sir Dangling babies out of hotel windows Sleeping in oxygen tanks Plying 8-12 year old boys with vodka and having them in his bed Paying millions to the family of a boy to buy his way out of molestation charges Doing an OJ in his trial in getting off even though it was plainly obvious he was guilty Stabbing Paul McCartney in the back to effectively steal the Beatles back catologue The guy was a Grade A c**t and deserves to be talked about in the same way as Glitter, Now that the dust has settled and he has been dead 24 hrs hopefully now we can discuss his life in less politically correct fashion I absolutely fukkin disagree with you again. But if you are going to be consistent do you remember John Lennon as the guy who physically attacked bandmate Stuart Sutcliffe resulting in the bruising to the skull that 2/3 weeks later probably caused his brain haemorrhage and death; and the wife beater who regularly hit his first wife Cynthia; and there were similar allegations made by two employees of the Lennon/Ono household that he did the same to Yoko on a few occasions. Who also never saw his eldest son Julian for 9 years of his life. And gave an estimated £1.2 million to the IRA. Whilst Elvis Presley slept with several underage females at his concerts in the early 1970s; and was revealed to be in close contact with the disgraced US President Richard Nixon having a hotline to the 37th President of the USA, trying to get John Lennon kicked out of the country, and famously joked in concert "God made Adam and Eve, he did not create Adam & Steve". The bottom line is that Michael Jackson was CLEARED of all the charges levelled against him. Therefore any comparison with Gary Glitter is completely inappropriate and bang out of order. Michael Jackson was a flawed genius, but ultimately a very tragic and sad creature. He may well have done things that you or I find completely unacceptable. But as a human being he was more mad or sad, than bad, because his life was never ever normal as he never had a childhood, so it is little wonder he grew up messed up, and has ultimately lived and died the same tragic rollercoaster way as Judy Garland before him, and as Britney Spears inevitably will in the next 20 years (unless she gets a reality check, which seems sadly unlikely at the moment).

Well of course Madonna who has released far more singles and albums than Michael Jackson has sold circa 375 million records. Michael Jackson has sold 750 millions. Do the maths.
June 26, 200916 yr Perfectly put, TIP. Some of the disrespect in this thread is not only pretty shameful but has also quite obviously been spouted purely for a reaction (as has come to be expected of Craig). 'Messiah complex'? Really, Grebo? He liked to spend, but you don't have to have seen many of his interview's to know that he had a big heart and was probably the politest superstar ever to have lived. Like his sisters, he was exceptionally gentle. What a hugely misguided comment. As for the Madonna vs Jacko debate, I'm not sure who was more relevant in their hayday. Anybody knows I'm a big fan of Madonna (more specifically of the music from the final third of her career to date), but she doesn't have as much raw talent as MJ did. Her vocals are rich in tone but technically challenged, shall we say, whilst her dancing obviously can't even begin to compare. She has a sort of self-imposed control which prevents her from suffering a break down or remaining anything less than completely composed when in the public eye, but she also suffers poor judgement, showcased on the Hard Candy album and her recent image. She's now the greatest superstar living of course, but comparing the peak of her career with the peak of MJ's probably doesn't put her in the more iconic light. Still, it's nothing that can be measured.

I have readily condemned Lennon before, I found him a highly unpleasant individual, likewise just as when James Brown and Ike Turner died I gave very strong opinions in their "tribute" threads about their domestic violence, no artist who has died should have their unsavoury side airbrushed from history, I am a big admirer of Chuck Berry's music but trust me when Chuck passes away I will be in rant mode again Even though he was found not guilty of the molestation charges Jacko still openly admitted giving boys as young as 8 vodka and then letting them sleep in his bed with him, now given the age of alcohol is 21 in California why was Jackson giving 8 year olds vodka ? the cynic in me would be so that he made them so blotto he could have his wicked way with them and they would not remember a thing but of course that is unproven but giving vodka to 8 year olds and then letting them sleep in a bed with him is a very dubious practice, if someone did that in this country they would be put on the sex offenders register regardless of any abuse involved Then there is the fact he paid millions of dollars to Jordi Chandler and his family, why ? if he had nothing to hide and his conscience was clear why pay them off ? the fact he had to pay off Chandler means IMHO he had something to hide or he will have had no worries about the facts being discussed in a court, by paying off Chandler to me it makes him guilty as hell even if it does not come with the words "guilty your honour" in a court attached to it, only reason he went through a trial the following time was because he was skint, couldn't afford to buy off the families Plying kids of 8 with vodka and sleeping in a bed with them and paying millions of dollars to the Chandler family are black marks against his character that will never be lifted and rightly so

June 26, 200916 yr ok, im not a fan, not got anything by him, (nor elvis, elton john, robbie...lol..) but i fully acknowlege that he was a hug influence on music in the 80's.... forget the rest since, my thoughts on that are well documented. from the late 70's through to the mid 80's he was at his creative peak.... a genius?... well...i dont think so. i doubt we will ever know the truth, but just how much of 'his' material was HE responsible for?.. i doubt very little, after all, how could such a pathetic individual be soooo creative?.. imho he was a very successful and creative product, ok i can live with that...easy... no probs.... but lets not credit him and him alone with this success. i doubt VERY much that it was all down to him. Sorry Mushy but you are simply showing your ignorance with regard to this subject. To say you doubt he had much of a input in his music is quite possibly one of the most ridiculous statements I have read. He is one of the few pop superstars who actually wrote his own songs. He wrote (not co-wrote) so many of the most well-know pop songs ever written including Billie Jean, Beat It, Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough, Wanna Be Startin Something, Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Smooth Criminal, Dirty Diana, Black or White etc. He solely wrote every song on Bad (an album which is considered his best by so many fans) apart from two. He wrote those songs himself – he created them. Yes Quincy Jones produced them but Jackson created the songs and produced alot of his hits himself. Im not going to start listing facts of why this man was arguably the greatest pop star/performer to ever live because that should be obviously with his endless list of achievements. He was anything but a product – he was a creative genius in all aspects of his career and frankly saying otherwise is just letting your personal dislike of the man get in the way. Not only did he write his own songs but he wrote, directed and produced loads of his legendary music videos. Regardless of whether you dislike his music or not, he is clearly up there with The Beatles and Elvis in terms of being a music legend and a cultural icon. His back catalogue is one of the most well know in music history and is loved by people of all ages all over the globe. There is simply no-one else on the planet who wouldve been capable of selling out a million tickets to 50 nights in the same venue. Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad are three of the greatest albums ever made in terms of critical and commerical success, selling over 120 million between them and Dangerous to a lesser extent (although still sold 30m and lyrically it is a great album and among alot ofhis fans is considered his best). He revolutionised popular music by writing some of the best songs ever and as a performer/showman in my view (at his peak) was in a league of his own. Doing an OJ in his trial in getting off even though it was plainly obvious he was guilty Craig you clearly did not follow the case very closely. The amount of utter lies the family were proved to have told was endless. He was proved innocent because the jury clearly did not believe a family who were clearly out to get money, especially the mother. Now I am not saying he definatly didnt sexually abuse other children but in this case as someone who followed the case very closely I simply do not believe he was guilty. Before you start saying im just a blind fan - I am a fan of the music, not of him as a person. Having children sleep in his room (regardless if he was on the floor or not) is simply not acceptable and just wrong on so many levels. He was a disturbed individual to say the least but I do not believe personally that he abused children and I think to be so completelly sure he did is being very black and white (excuse the pun -_- ) And with regard to comparing him with Madge - in terms of success he was alot more successful (despite only releasing 6 albums in the last thirty years) but in terms of talent - as far as I am aware Madonna has only written one single by herself - while Jacko has written huge volumes of his singles himself and prodced many by himself as well - and to be quite honest I am confident even Madonna would admit she wasnt on Jackson's level.

The trial in the 21st Century cost Michael Jackson $36,500,000 in costs to hire lawyers, etc. Hence, it made good fiscal sense to pay off allegations made against him by Jordi Chandler & his family, as it would have cost that much to go to trial as well, but with much less publicity, stress and trauma. As Michael Jackson was earning $65m-$75m million per annum he could easily afford it. As for Jordi Chandler, in 2006 he accused his father of child abuse, claiming that it was his father, not MJ who molested him. (Although he did admit to sleeping in the same bed as MJ, but insisted that MJ did not do anything inproper of a sexual nature).
June 26, 200916 yr Is Michael Jackson Guilty? by Jason Vines New York Times 07 Dec, 2000 Michael Jackson has established himself as one of the most successful musical artists in history. His album Thriller—which won a record eight Grammies—remains the bestselling album of all–time, having sold over 51 million copies worldwide. Jackson's enormously popular videos for "Billie Jean," "Beat It," and "Thriller" eliminated MTV's reluctance to broadcast videos from black artists. Also, TV Guide, BET, and MTV determined "Thriller" to be the best music video ever made. Jackson's later albums also experienced phenomenal success. Bad, from 1987, was the second bestselling album of the 1980's, and it was the first album to have six number one singles. In addition, Jackson's Bad concert tour was the most successful tour ever. A few years later, Michael Jackson's Dangerous became the bestselling album of 1992, and Jackson's 1993 half–time performance at Super Bowl XXVII was at the time the highest rated show in television history. That year of 1993 was when the media's dogs pounced on Michael Jackson and tore his reputation to pieces. Almost everyone alive at the time would remember what happened. A young boy named Jordy Chandler accused Michael Jackson of molesting him, and not even 24 hours after the media discovered this, they had spread the allegation all across the globe. Tabloid writers and legitimate journalists alike competed fiercely amongst themselves to write or to air the most sensational stories about Jackson. Before long, the media had pronounced Jackson guilty of child molestation and had branded him a pedophile and a pervert. At first glance, the media's case against Michael Jackson appears strong. Jordy Chandler had provided to police descriptions both of Jackson's body parts and of the acts he said Jackson had performed upon him. Also, former housekeepers and security guards who had worked at Jackson's home, Neverland Ranch, asserted that they had witnessed Michael Jackson performing illicit acts with many young children. Finally, Jackson settled with the Chandler family out of court, an act many people interpreted as an attempt by Jackson to bribe the Chandlers to silence themselves about the molestation. Upon close scrutiny, though, the case against Michael Jackson collapses faster than a $10 tent hit by a $2 million missile. Jordy Chandler's famous descriptions of Jackson's body turned out to be incorrect. A dispatch from Reuters news service on January 27, 1994, revealed that when the police examined and photographed every micrometer of Jackson's body in an attempt to corroborate what Jordy had said, the police found that none of Jackson's features matched Jordy's descriptions. As for the boy's stories about his risqué encounters with Jackson, the circumstances under which those stories arose rob them of all credibility. Before Jordy Chandler said anything about molestation, the boy's father, Evan Chandler, an aspiring screenwriter, became angry at Michael Jackson for not helping him with his career in Hollywood. Therefore, as he revealed in a secretly recorded telephone conversation, Chandler launched a plan to destroy Michael Jackson, as he revealed in a secretly recorded telephone conversation exposed by GQ magazine in October 1994. According to Chandler in this conversation, "This guy [his attorney, Barry Rothman] is going to destroy everybody in sight in any devious, nasty, cruel way that he can do it. And I've given him full authority to do that." Later in the conversation, Chandler added, "If I go through with this, I win big–time. There's no way I lose. I've checked that inside out. I will get everything I want, and they will be destroyed forever… Michael's career will be over… It will be a massacre if I don't get what I want." Chandler's plan was to accuse Michael Jackson of child molestation, but unfortunately for Chandler, Jordy refused to implicate Jackson in any way whatsoever. To solve that problem, Chandler took his son to dental anesthesiologist Mark Tobiner. Tobiner injected into Jordy the barbiturate sodium Amytal, under the influence of which a person is highly impressionable; the effect is similar to hypnosis. With sodium Amytal swimming through his system, Jordy said for the first time that Jackson had molested him. Finally armed with this crucial tidbit, Chandler brought Jordy to psychiatrist Mathis Abrams, to whom Jordy repeated his allegations of Jackson's misconduct. Abrams contacted the Department of Children's Services, which in turn called the police. Five days after the police began to investigate Jordy's claims, the media discovered the allegations against Jackson. A short time later, former Jackson employees emerged into the spotlight, saying they had seen Michael Jackson molesting children other than Jordy. Something worth noting is that all of these employees had been fired, so they had reason not to like Michael Jackson. Also, these employees received money for their stories from tabloids such as The Globe and Hard Copy. When these people were in a courtroom, however, where they had to tell the truth on pain of imprisonment, none of them could say they had seen Jackson perform any untoward acts on even a single young boy. Of course, if the case against Michael Jackson was full of holes, then that begs the question of why Jackson settled with the Chandler family rather than fight against the allegations in court. The reason is, said Jackson lawyer John Branca, "He just wanted the whole thing to go away. He ignored the advice of myself and others in the profession because he could easily afford it at the time as it would have cost him a similar amount to fight the case in court. But Michael did not want the conflict." "Jackson naívely believed that if he paid the Chandlers to stop pursuing him, then he could get on with his life. He thought the public would support him instead of a father who would accept money in lieu of justice". Almost a decade after the molestation saga, life for Jackson hasn't transpired in the way he had hoped it would. Many people throughout the world still believe Michael Jackson is a freak who abuses children. As Jackson prepares to launch his campaign in support of his new album, Invincible to be released next year, he must accept that reality and work to change it. Only then could Jackson hope to reestablish the pristine reputation the media took from him in 1993. And only then could Jackson hope for his career to ascend once again to the dizzying heights from which he saw his past albums break all records possible.

June 26, 200916 yr Durrrrrr. Even if stuff was made up you would have thought that the Chandler incident would be a wake up call to Jacko to get his life in order and get some help for his problems, even if no sexual abuse was involved he was still having 8 year old boys on sleepovers at his place and sleeping in his bed but no the dickhead didn't learn at all from the Chandler saga and despite all the streess he claims he went through over Chandler he still carried on having lilttle boys having sleepovers, he carried on having them sleep in his bed, he was even sharing Smirnoff with them by his own admission so if there had been no boys sleeping over in the bed of a guy in his 40's there would have been no risk of allegations so Jacko is to blame entirely for the public perception of him as a paedophile Why didn't he stop having boys over at his house after Chandler saga ? no one to blame but himself tbh Fact is though if a middle aged man in the UK had boys of 8 having sleepovers and sleeping in his bed he would be put on the sex offenders register regardless of any abuse and then if after the allegations the middle aged UK guy still carried on the very same lifestyle as before he would be carted off to a cell even if he didn't do any touching Jacko's public perception of him is 100% his own fault Edited June 26, 200916 yr by B.A Baracus
June 26, 200916 yr And also Jacko was an extremely devious and manipulative man He gained and then abused trust, he became a trusted confidant of Paul McCartney and then when McCartney said the price for the Beatles collection that he was bidding Jacko took advantage of that trust and went and outbid McCartney for the rights, that is an extremely calculating and manipulative man given he was able to stoop that low
June 26, 200916 yr I know of somebody who has mental problems, is in his late 30's, whose group of friends is composed of boys aged bewteen 8-13. He hangs around with them outside, and in their parents houses. Does that make him a sexual abuser in your eyes, simply because he has a relationship [non-sexual] with children? If anybody is to blame for Michael's "relationship" with children, it's his father, not his own.

No it doesn't but you can't compare the 2 instances Are these 8 to 13 year olds having sleepovers at this guys house ? are they sleeping in his bed ? is he getting them drunk on vodka ? if the answer is no then you can't compare with Jacko
June 26, 200916 yr Jacko came across as vile and arrogant with a bloody Messiah complex. Jarvis Cocker will always be an absolute hero for what he did in 1996. Deserves to be lumped in with Gary Glitter. King of Pop... my arse. June 26, 200916 yr Best post about Jacko so far :cheer: I salute you sir Dangling babies out of hotel windows Sleeping in oxygen tanks Plying 8-12 year old boys with vodka and having them in his bed Paying millions to the family of a boy to buy his way out of molestation charges Doing an OJ in his trial in getting off even though it was plainly obvious he was guilty Stabbing Paul McCartney in the back to effectively steal the Beatles back catologue The guy was a Grade A c**t and deserves to be talked about in the same way as Glitter, Now that the dust has settled and he has been dead 24 hrs hopefully now we can discuss his life in less politically correct fashion Come back and slag off a great great icon when you've actually achieved anything like he has in life. He was never found guilty of any crime = INNOCENT. People are buying his albums in their thousands today. Will you ever release an album? No, so STFU and don't speak ill of the dead. Edited June 26, 200916 yr by Crazy Chris
June 26, 200916 yr Come back and slag off a great great icon when you've actually achieved anything like he has in life BA. LOL don't be ridiculous Chris That means then that no politician, sportsman, businessman, musician or anyone like that can be criticised about anything because they have achieved stuff ? get real you twat :manson: Fred Goodwin got far in business is it not ok to criticise him for bankrupting a bank ? George W Bush got far in politics maybe I should shut up about him and his crimes until I myself am a president of a country ? See my point ? Maybe I shouldn't be critical of Gary Glitter, after all he has millions in the bank and has achieved a lot in music  Want to know the truth about what I think in terms of Jackson ? FULL TRUTH is I really don't give a flying f*** if he has died, given the fact he was a total fukkin oddball good riddance to him one less fukkin weirdo in the world and why should I give a damn about Jacko ? I have never met him, he made no impact on my life even if he made some decent songs 25 years ago, thousands of people died yesterday across the world below retirement age, many were 50, many were 40 many were 30, 20, 10, many were infants and new born babies so why is the death of a 50 year old freak so fukkin important in the grand scheme of things eh ?
June 26, 200916 yr If you don't care about him dying then fair enough but why say it today to offend Jacko fans? Many people are very upset today. I haven't been able to do much. It's been a surreal day. Edited June 26, 200916 yr by Crazy Chris
