We will find out! For now Michael`s "Essential" out shines Florence by over 30k. Time for the Flashback to...July 1993. Charts compiled by MRIB. Drama in Peak Practice. Matthew Kelly`s first series of Stars In Their Eyes (taking over from Russ Abbot, who filled Leslie Crowther`s shoes after that terrible car accident). Nicky Campbell hosted his 5th series of quiz "Wheel Of Fortune", on Wednesdays at 7pm. Fridays at 7 brought us Sir David Frost, and Lloyd Grossman going "Through The Keyhole". Neighbours single episode audience was a little over 5m, believe me! If you rememember "Pot Of Gold"...It was a talent show type thing, introduced by Des O` Conner. Inconjuntion with The Sun newspaper with a game card. Those with a scratch card matching the scores of the Talent people, won a prize. 6 contestants tried to entertain, and were judged by celebrities a la Britain`s Got/Hasn`t Talent, and a 7th contestant was picked by the studio audience from a selection of others by the use of a Clapometer a la Opportunity Knocks...Baffled? So were the crappy contestants! ;) Switched At Birth is a tv movie, about 2 kids switched at birth, starring Bonnie Bedilia, Brian Kerwin, John M. Jackson, Eve Gordon, and Judith Hoag...never heard of any of `em. London`s Burning pulled them in, with a cast of people who basically all appeared in other shows, at some time and another. "Daddy" was a US production from the book of the drama, that starred ex-Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter. And Sea Will Tell is a Murder Mystery from the U.S. (again), starring Richard Crenna, and Rachel Ward. Husband murders wife, and in the sea she goes! Roy Clarke was still getting the viewers for repeats of pretty boring sitcom "Open All Hours"...How do you recognise a Roy Clarke sitcom? Easy...every episode is exactly as the one before, i.e. Last Of The Summer Wine, Keeping up Appearances...all dire stuff. And some say Terry And June was rubbish, they must have been watching a different show to me! The Top Albums in July 1993: Biggies for U2, Unplugged for Rod, and Neil, Broadway for Barbra, and Soundtrack time for Tina Turner in the movie of her life and career 01 NE ZOOROPA - U2 02 01 EMERGENCY ON PLANET EARTH - JAMERIQUAI 03 02 UNPLUGGED AND SEATED - ROD STEWART 04 03 POCKET FULL OF KRYPTONITE - SPIN DOCTORS 05 04 AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE - R.E.M. 06 11 BACK TO BROADWAY - BARBRA STRIESAND 07 07 TEN SUMMONERS TALES - STING 08 06 UNPLUGGED - NEIL YOUNG 09 05 WHAT`S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT - TINA TURNER 10 NE ALWAYS - MICHAEL BALL The Top Singles in July 1993 01 01 PRAY - TAKE THAT 02 02 DREAMS - GABRIELLE 03 03 WHAT IS LOVE - HADDAWAY 04 07 WHAT`S UP - FOUR NON BLONDES 05 04 TEASE ME - CHAKA DEMUS 06 05 I WILL SURVIVE - GLORIA GAYNOR 07 06 CAN`T HELP FALLIN IN LOVE - UB40 08 08 ONE NIGHT IN HEAVEN - M PEOPLE 09 14 IF I CAN`T HAVE YOU - KIM WILDE 10 11 WILL YOU BE THERE - MICHAEL JACKSON 11 NE ALMOST UNREAL - ROXETTE 12 19 CAN`T GET ENOUGH - TAYLOR DAYNE 13 16 THIS IS IT - DANNI MINOGUE 14 09 HAVE I TOLD YOU LATELY THAT I LOVE YOU - ROD STEWART 15 10 TWO PRINCES - SPIN DOCTORS 16 12 ALL THAT SHE WANTS - ACE OF BASS 17 13 IN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES - LISA STANSFIELD 18 34 THE KEY - URBAN COOKIE COLLECTIVE 19 15 NOTHING MY LOVE CAN`T FIX - JOEY LAWRENCE 20 NE YOU`RE THE ONE THAT I WANT - CRAIG MCCLAUGLIN/DEBBIE GIBSON 21 20 HANG YOUR HEAD - DEACON BLUE 22 17 I WANNA LOVE YOU - JADE 23 18 SUNFLOWER - PAUL WELLER 24 NE NIGHTSWIMMING - R.E.M. 25 23 STAY WITH ME - KENNY THOMAS 26 21 BELARUSE - LEVELLERS 27 NE DOWN THAT ROAD - SHARA NELSON 28 31 BREAK FROM THE OLD ROUTINE - OUI 3 29 29 I WANT YOU - UTAH SAINTS 30 NE GLASTONBURY SONG - WATERBOYS 31 22 WEST END GIRLS - EAST 17 32 38 DO YOU REALLY WANT ME - JON SECCADA 33 24 SWEAT - INNER CIRCLE 34 30 CHEMICAL WORLD - BLUR 35 NE LIVING IN THE ROSE E.P. - NEW MODEL ARMY 36 41 DREAM OF ME - ORCHESTRAL MANOUEVRES IN THE DARK 37 25 EVERYBODY DANCE - EVOLUTION 38 NE THE VOID - N`JOI 39 39 GIVE IT ALL AWAY - WORLD PARTY 40 48 SOMEWHERE - EFUA 41 NE THIRD RAIL - SQUEEZE 42 26 ZEROS AND ONES - JESUS JONES 43 33 SWEAT - USURA 44 32 BIG GUN - AC/DC 45 27 TIME FREQUENCY - ULTIMATE HIGH 46 NE TAKE A FREEFALL - DANCE TO TRANCE 47 44 GIVE ME LOVE (EENY MEENY) - DAVID MORALES 48 43 RUNAWAY TRAIN - SOUL ASYLUM 49 42 RYDDAM - US 3 50 45 THREE LITTLE PIGS - GREEN JELLY I might have a lot to say about 1993, but I seem to have forgotten most of the Summer! It was quite wet if I remember, and August was one of the biggest wash-outs ever. Sunday 25th July brought the end to the MRIB Network Chart, and David Jensen...a big mistake as we later found out, as Neil Fox came along with "Pepsi Chart"...lots of airplay, and would we ever hear Jesus Jones on the network again? No, no airplay saw to that. Take That managed 3 weeks at #1, during this perod...knocking off long-running eyepatched Gabrielle. A host of Summer anthems gave us Haddaway "What Is Love"...Baby Don`t Hurt Me! Not taken in by Chaka Demus...who wore thin for me at that start. Four Non Blondes certainly took a top airplay on. M People (under the lead of one Heather Small)...but do we remember the other members? They were Mike Pickering, Paul Heard, and Shovell...The name of M People was taken from Mike`s initials. Gloria Gaynor suddenly came back with "I Will Survive"...now originally in 1979, this was the B side but it was flipped. The original A side was "Substitute"...the hit from Clout, during the Summer of 1978. Billie Jo Spears actually cut the original version of "I Will Survive". UB40 covered Elvis/Andy Williams/Stylistics. "Will You Be There" sang Michael Jackson... well the answer came, this week with all those re-entries. Rod Stewart was doing Van Morrison. Spin Doctors was another airplay spinner, with "Two Princes". Kim Wilde though she was Yvonne Elliman. Ace Of Base were off the #1, on the way out. Taylor Dayne returned. Danni Minogue covering Melba Moore? You always knew Paul Weller would peak on week One! Lisa Stansfield was "In All The Right Places". Joey Lawrence was born Joseph Mignogna Jnr...he was a child star in U.S. tv series, and films. He was lately a judge on talent show "Total PopStar", along with Debbie Gibson...and Debbie teaming up with Craig McClaglain for a re-make of that Arthur Mullard/Hilda Baker classic, from Grease! Never confuse Joey Lawrence, with a certain someone else with the same name...he doesn`t like it, and he wouldn`t have his hair done that way, anyway! "Don`t Walk Away", sang Jade...not an original title for a hit, as it`s been used 8 times...even Miley Cyrus used it! Deacon Blue and Kenny Thomas were looking a bit tired by 1993. Why on earth East 17 suddenly covered a Pet Shop Boys hits, was baffling. Shara Nelson had a realitively small hit with "Down That Road" (it got to #20), but got a fair bit of airplay. English/American/Swiss...it could only be Oui 3. Dance music and the album "Oui Love You" started them well. "Break From The Old Routine" was their biggest single...lacking airplay, as no one like`s to play dance music on daytime radio! Even Evolution, who covered Chic`s 1978 top ten hit. Urban Cookie Collective had the Secret, and "The Key". I struggle to remember the rest of the chart, as again it`s a case of "I Haven`t Heard It For Ages". Soul Asylum took time in getting airplay with "Runaway Train", but later were never off the radio. They formed in Minneapolis in 1983, and still going with a new album too. Do I mention World Party? Karl Wallinger used to be with the Waterboys, he also directed a version of the West End`s production of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". World Party very much solo, with Karl...as World Party summed up his radical/green enviromental interests...As I fail to remember, most of the other songs in the chart (apart from the marvellous Jesus Jones), I`m going to give up! July 10, 200915 yr Ew @ JLS topping pre release. It's such a mediocre song, I really hope it doesn't get #01. :( Good to see Girls Can't Catch Top 10 though!
July 10, 200915 yr I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the top 5 next week could be: 1 JLS 2 The Black Eyed Peas 3 Lady GaGa 4 La Roux/Cascada 5 La Roux/Cascada
July 10, 200915 yr Thanks Dave Any truth in the rumour September (number 9 in pre-orders) has been pulled?
July 10, 200915 yr Florence & The Machine would have fitted nicely at #1 this week, if the Jacko albums weren't in the chart, shame really, its a great album.

No! The con was 2 weeks ago, all the airplay was missed out, due to MJ`s passing...just to be that much ahead of Radio One. Then, last week all the shoddy airplay was back, and all of a sudden Take That shot up 22 places! They also miss out Kasabian, Linkin Park, and Florence every bloody week! ;) Going to be really nice this week, and do the full combined Top 60 (coz next Friday, I ain`t here): 60 48 ABC - MJ - 59 52 THE SHOW - LENKA - 58 41 RAINDROPS - BASEMENT JAXX 34) 57 NE MY HOUSE IS DADLESS - KID BRITISH 56 71 WORK - CIARA 55 64 DON`T UPSET THE RHYTHM - NOISETTES 33) =40 54 44 WE ARE THE PEOPLE - EMPIRE OF THE SUN 32) =39 53 50 I`M NOT ALONE - CALVIN HARRIS 31) =38 52 53 HALO - BEYONCE 30) =37 51 RE WILL YOU BE THERE - MJ 50 47 WAKING UP IN VEGAS - KATY PERRY 29) =36 49 52 JUST DANCE - LADY GAGA 28) =35 48 45 I`M YOURS - JASON MRAZ 27) 47 65 I`LL BE THERE - MJ/J5 46 37 DON`T STOP `TILL YOU GET ENOUGH - MJ 45 40 BAD - MJ 44 63 HEAL THE WORLD - MJ 43 34 THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL - MJ 42 42 NOT FAIR - LILY ALLEN 26) =34 41 27 EARTH SONG - MJ =32 40 36 NEVER FORGET YOU - NOISETTES - 39 29 YOU ARE NOT ALONE - MJ - 38 NE SHARK IN THE WATER - VV BROWN 25) =33 37 38 SAID IT ALL - TAKE THAT 24) =31 36 23 WORK - SATURDAYS 23) =29 35 RE WHO`S LOVIN YOU - MJ/J5 - 34 30 NUMBER ONE - TINCHY/N-DUBZ 22) =30 33 26 KISS ME THRU THE PHONE - SOULJA BOY 21) =28 32 17 BEAT IT - MJ - =27 31 25 DIRTY DIANA - MJ 30 32 NEW DIVIDE - LINKIN PARK - 29 24 FIRE - KASABIAN 20) =26 28 22 BLACK OR WHITE - MJ - 27 31 POKERFACE - LADY GAGA 19) =25 26 11 THRILLER - MJ 18) =22 25 35 THEY DON`T CARE ABOUT US - MJ - 24 28 HUSH HUSH - PUSSYCAT DOLLS - =24 23 21 HEARTBREAK MAKE ME A DANCER - FREEMASONS 17) =23 22 14 STICKS AND STONES E.P. - JAMIE T 16) =21 21 09 BILLIE JEAN - MJ - 20 19 RABBIT HEART (RAISE IT UP) - FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE 15) =20 19 13 SMOOTH CRIMINAL - MJ 14) =18 18 18 IN FOR THE KILL - LA ROUX 13) =16 17 16 RED - DANIEL MERRIWEATHER 12) =17 16 15 BONKERS - DIZZEE/ARMAND 11) =15 15 10 MAMA DO - PIXIE LOTT 10) =14 14 33 I KNOW YOU WANT ME - PITBULL - =13 13 12 UNTOUCHED - VERONICAS - =12 12 NE CRYING LIGHTNING - ARTIC MONKEYS - =11 11 20 BATTLEFIELD - JORDIN SPARKS 9) =10 10 07 RELEASE ME - AGNES 8) =7 09 08 KNOCK YOU DOWN - KERI AND CO 7) =8 08 39 I GOTTA FEELING - BLACK EYED PEAS - =9 07 06 BOOM BOOM POW - BLACK EYED PEAS 6) =6 06 NE DIAMOND RINGS - CHIPMUNK 5) =5 05 04 WHEN LOVE TAKES OVER - GUETTA/ROWLAND 4) =3 04 05 PAPARAZZI - LADY GAGA 3) =4 03 02 MAN IN THE MIRROR - MJ - 02 03 BULLETPROOF - LA ROUX 2) =2 01 01 EVACUATE THE DANCEFLOOR - CASCADA 1) =1 ) Position without downloads alone. = Position on Chart Show tv. Made me think "How much would it be worth?" 13.2k ahead for them. Michael will settle for 3rd place for Sunday, for sure. Black Eyed Peas beside themselves with joy! Outside the top 60 are Jackson 5 "I Want You Back" is 61, and there is Melanie Fiona, Green Day...both top 40 entrants next week, and do not forget Beyonce "Sweet Dreams", tonight at #71. NOTE: These are not Official Charts. They are based on Chart Show tv`s chart, and added research for the most up to date chart in Britain, at this point. The Chart Show top 20 videos can be seen on Sky Digital/Freeview Channels 365/500, on Saturday at 9am/Sunday 11am. The Hit40uk is still run on other music channels the Box/Hits etc, and now features the TV Airplay/Official top 10 at various times through the week...well it beats the Big Top 40! As, I`m not here next Friday, we will have a guest host. Who i`m sure, will do a brilliant job! ;)
July 10, 200915 yr Thanks Dave :cheer: Shame VV Brown is so low :( Who is the guest host next week then? :kink: Oh, and you really think Melanie Fiona will be top 40 next week?
July 10, 200915 yr Author Thanks Dave Any truth in the rumour September (number 9 in pre-orders) has been pulled? Leave It All Behind was due to be the next single from September. This was changed to Until I Die. At that point it hadn`t been pulled...So I can`t confirm it either way. I should think our good friend James, might know?
July 10, 200915 yr I never heard about Leave It All Behind, that's funny... But I guess we will find out soon enough...
July 10, 200915 yr Where are the MJ physicals coming from? Record shops. :P http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetail...1&sku=18232
July 10, 200915 yr Author Where are the MJ physicals coming from? I think the push was on the dvds, that came with them. £4.99 for CD Single/Dvd...pretty good offer. Now, why didn`t Thriller make #1? It make`s you think, he wasn`t as popular as Elvis really...But then maybe there were not so many skeletons, in Elvis`cupboard.
