The latest one from Ryanair is to make passengers stand up for flights. They would be nice and safe, strapped on to stools for take-off and landing. Between times they'd be set free to shuffle about.

That should, to be sure, defeat deep-vein thrombosis, but with an airline that came up with the idea of charging to check in and £1 to use the lavatory, it is dangerous to jest about money-making wheezes lest they be taken in earnest. After all, the distance of many foreign airports from the cities they serve could be nullified if passengers paid to hire parachutes and left the cabin at nominated request points. It would save on airport tax. Cabin air could be optional too, with a sliding scale for oxygen content and flu-germ filters.

Why cabins at all? Vacuum-packed passengers would stack neatly in the hold. It's so cheap.

Is there anything that Ryanair won't charge you for? Standing on trains is bad enough, but standing on planes, what next.

Its not just Ryanair that are ridiculously expensive on the small things. Easyjet does the same thing (as far as i know they are not associated)... A SMALL pack of Pringles costs something like £3??

Also the standing up thing is ridiculous. Have they not seen the way the aeroplane looks when everyone is getting to their seat/putting their luggage away? ITS MORE PACKED THAN A CAN OF TUNA. Imagine if everyone decided to stand up, it would cause chaos...

It's just pointless, and unnecessary..
O'Leary got the idea from the Chinese airline, Spring, who came up with the idea a few years ago and our submitting their proposal at the end of the year. I think it's just another spout of verbal diarrhea on Ryanair's part to gain some publicity. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if it actually happened.
They are talking about letting people who stand travel for FREE

tbh for say a flight to Spain or France I would be tempted

You have to admit though Craig, it would cause absolute mayhem.... I dont think I could ever be tempted to stand on a plane tbh.....

? whats the point in taking them if they travel for free?

Apart from the risks in turbulence I dont think it would be much different to standing on a bus or tube or train etc

You dont stand on a bus or a tube for 90-odd minutes though mate..... And, there's always a chance of a seat at some point in your journey....

The turbulence thing is a pretty serious argument against people standing on planes I would say....

I would prefer a seat tbh. I mainly go to Madeira if im going abroad and thats a 3 and a half hour journey so nty for me
I heard on the news a few weeks ago that a flight was cancelled because they asked passengers to sit on one side of the plane to balance out the weight which freaked the passengers out and they didn't want to fly. Bloody Ryanair...
Surely these passengers who are travelling for free and standing up could just sit on the floor though? Or would they be standing in the aisles or something?
where exactly are they gonna be standing? they can't stand in the aisles cos that'd stop the trolleys from getting past and they can't stand near the food preparation bit cos that's the food preparation bit..

i don't see the difference between standing and sitting on a ryanair flight. It's not as if they actaully give you any leg room or even a semi decent chair. I flew ryanair to italy.

Never again.

the whole £1 for the loo thing ammused my aussie friends. They must have made a mint from it.

You'd notice the difference if you were standing and the plane hit air turbulence.....

i can see these flights becoming major attractions on youtube though.

You'd have to be careful though... Mobile phones aren't allowed to be switched on on planes (although, frankly I've never bought the notion that a mobile phone could interfere with the flight telemetry, etc....), so you'd have to watch out for the flight attendants wrestling you to the ground thinking you're some kind of terrorist and then cuffing you..... I bet they have special "Ryanair" handcuffs too, and they charge you about twenty quid for the key......
