Just curious, bearing in mind where MJ's 'Off The Wall' was in the mids..

 

I guess no-one knows the answer, then...

 

Vidcapper, 'Off The Wall' is now - 'Officially' - the Album that took the longest to reach its Peak.

 

It Peaked at No.5, in its 5th Chart Week:,

 

29/09/1979 - 25-26-11- 10-*5*

 

Before MJ died, it had spent 189 Weeks on the Chart. It is now up to 192 Weeks, & in that 192nd Week,

it has reached a New Peak - No.3.

 

Until now, the Album that took longest to reach its Peak, was 'Bat Out Of Hell', by Meat Loaf. That Entered the

Chart on W/E 11th March 1978, & it did not reach its Peak - No.9 - until W/E 23rd August 1981 - 176 Chart Weeks later.

 

If we just go by time - rather than whether an Album was on the Chart - then, 'Off The Wall' has taken almost 30 Years

to reach its Peak, & the Meat Loaf Album only took 3 Years, 5 Months, & 2 Weeks, to reach its Peak.....

Off The Wall has taken either 1,551 or 1,552 (not certain which) weeks to reach a new peak (the distance of time between it being at #5 and this week)

The Essential MJ also reached a new peak when it reached #1, it only reached #2 when it was released in 2005.

The 6 Albums that took the longest to Peak are:,

 

1) 'OFF THE WALL' - MICHAEL JACKSON - No.5 in October 1979 - Peaked at

No.3, in the Chart of W/E 18th July 2009. It has taken it 29 Years, & 9 Months

to reach its Peak. (In its 3rd Year & 9th Month on the actual Chart).

 

2) 'THE STONE ROSES' - THE STONE ROSES - This was released in May 1989, &

first Charted on W/E 13th May, that Year. It did not Peak until W/E 10th July 2004

- in its 87th Chart Week. It Peaked at No.9 that Week. This was 15 Years & 2 Months

after its release - making it 2nd only to 'Off the Wall', as the Album that took the longest

to Peak in the UK.

 

3) 'THE ESSENTIAL' - MICHAEL JACKSON - No.2 in the Chart of W/E 30th July 2005.

It Peaked at No.1, in the Chart of W/E 11th July 2009 - just under 4 Years later.

 

4)='My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair... But Now They're Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows'

- Tyrannosaurus Rex . Released in July 1968, this initially reached No.15, in the Chart of W/E 24th July 1968.

In 1972, it was re-released as a Double Album - with their 2nd Album - and it reached No.1, in the Chart of

W/E 6th May 1972 - 3 Years & 10 Months later.

 

4)= 'BAT OUT OF HELL', by MEAT LOAF. It Entered the Chart on W/E 11th March 1978, & it did not reach its Peak

- No.9 - until W/E 23rd August 1981 - 176 Chart Weeks later. So, it reached No.9 in its 3rd Year, & 5th Month on the Chart.

The Album was released on October 21st 1977 - so time-wise, it took 3 Years & 10 Months to reach its Peak.

 

6) 'Prophets, Seers & Sages – The Angels of the Ages' - Tyrannosaurus Rex. This was released in October 1968,

& it failed to Chart. In May 1972, it went to No.1, when re-issued, as a Double Album, with the Tyrannosaurus Rex

Album at 4). . So, it took 3 Years & 7 Months to reach its Peak.

The Stone Roses debut took a very long time to peak. Originally peaking at #19 in 1989, the album made #8 earlier this century after the Jive issue (original issue was on Silvertone) was being sold for a silly price nationwide.

T75 and T100 for its chart runs from 1981 to 1988.

 

how long did Forgiven Not Forgotten by The Corrs take to peak? it must have been around 4 years?

Shania Twains come on over took ages to peak at #1 too. About 18 months i think

 

Edit: Just checked Chart Stats. It was released in March 1998, Finally made Top 10 in June 1999, reached #1 in September 1999 and finally left the top 10 in May 2000!! That's one hell of a chart run!
