July 19, 200916 yr Funny to see Waterfront in at 17... I used to know Phil, one of the duo - wonder whatever happened to them? Long since lost touch and, in all honesty, they weren't very good anyway :P He was a njice guy, though, and used to come into the record shop I worked in at the time tirelessly promoting the band.... I remember this time well.... Terrible top 10 bar the great Pet Shop Boys single, Soul II Soul and Chaka Khan. Includes, IMO, the worst ever Bond theme (bar the last 2 horrific offerings of course)... and Gladys still sounds like she's got a 'license to kilt' on it to me... awful. Guy called Gerald and Kirsty being the only other 2 of note from 10-20. Madonna and The Cult were so-so.... and it was great to see Eartha Kitt and Bronski Beat bringing high camp to the top 40 with the fab 'Cha Cha Heels' - GREAT stuff, RIP Eartha... Then it's down to Public Enemy, Dead or Alive and Neneh Cherry to save what is a REALLY bad chart.

Those you name check I agree with, but I thought that Pet Shop Boys track was a really poor cover version. The original Sterling Void version is far superior IMO. Anyway, of the 75, I like the following... 01. Sonia - You'll Never Stop Me From Loving You  I make no apologies! 03. Soul II Soul - Back To Life (However Do You Want Me) 06. Rufus And Chaka Khan - Ain't Nobody {1989} The original 84 version was better, but still... 12. A Guy Called Gerald - Voodoo Ray  Bloody wicked track! 18. De La Soul - Say No Go 22. Double Trouble And The Rebel MC - Just Keep Rockin' 35. D Mob Featuring LRS - It Is Time To Get Funky 36. Raze Presents Doug Lazy - Let It Roll 37. Madonna - Express Yourself 44. Kariya - Let Me Love You For Tonight :yahoo: LUSH track! 61. Sybil - Don't Make Me Over 71. Heavy D And The Boyz - We Got Our Own Thang 75. Neneh Cherry - Manchild :D Possibly the best track on this list. Truly classic tune!

July 19, 200916 yr Author I think the last S/A/W no.1 was Kylie's Tears On My Pillow, early 1990. Ah, yeah you're right. Then Pete would be on the rebound some years later with Steps... :puke2:

July 20, 200916 yr Are you guys just glossing over the two SUPERB Guns N' Roses offerings in this chart? You probably just saw the name 'Guns N' Roses' and assumed it was a loud, raucous rock track. However, 'Patience' is a beautiful, heartfelt acoustic track: 1MSN82jU3sg And 'Sweet Child O'Mine' at Number 40, while being a harder rock song, is still one of the greatest, if not the greatest, rock ballad of all-time, with an incredible riff and solo.
