I agree completely with this. I get the waiting list thing but I feel the rules should have some exceptions and Simon's case is definetly one of them imo.

 

I agree too, Simon has already been punished once. Why does he need to be punished twice for one mistake? :(

Just a clarification, i never said there shouldn't be exceptions, just that it was never intended that non voters would be double penalised.
I won't be able to stay on top of adding confirmations to the first post, I'm kinda busy in the next few days due to a house move.
There's 4mods, i'm sure one of us will be able to update now an then if not all of us.

OK, just so I don't end up getting mauled for this, are we all clear on EXACTLY what we want? That Simondly should be given the exception and go in ahead of someone else? While we're at it, do we want Rivandia to go into the contest along with BaNG ahead of those on the waiting list? So those three + Camdonia give us the assumption that, if everyone who is already reserved a place in XIX takes part, nobody currently on the waiting list may participate? Are we on agreement that we do not at all have any objection whatsoever to these people going ahead of those on the waiting list who have not participated before, and that there will be no complaint whatsoever if I do this?

 

Because if I do do this and there are complaints re: 'unfairness' and 'favouring the old guard', I will be so majorly pissed off that I don't know what I'll do -_-

That sounds fine to me Tron. Nothing against new blood, but it would be wrong if people who have entered the contest for much longer than some others (the host of XIX for example :teresa:) cannot partcipiate.

To be honest, I am for 'favouring the old guard' in this situation. Both Simondly and Camdonia were banned from the last contest and BaNG was set to participate but was away from a computer unplanned for a few days before confirmation closed. Not sure about the Rivandia situation but I wouldn't object to Jonny being bumped up.

 

The only problem this raises is the suggestion that this forum is quite niché and only for a certain group of people. If we're turning away new members over people who have been playing longer, it only strengthen that. But (as bad as it sounds) I'd rather see someone who has been in 3+ contests returning over a totally new country signing up. It kinda sucks that we've got too big.
