Last Week we got 9 in the 10, 18 in the 20, and 25 in the 30 on the combined album front. On the singles we had 9 in the 10, 19 in the 20, 29 in the 30 (only Guetta/Akon missed), 38 in the 40, and 46 in the top 50...so another good week!

30 NE SUMMERTIME CITY - MIKE BATT

The 70s fully in bloom! A hot summer in 1975, preceded by snow falling in June. Luxembourg got 25 in the 30...but as no one was allowed to play Judge Dread records, then he wasn`t allowed in! Smokey were probably the only artists, who changed the spelling of their name. It became "Smokie". Either way the kept the Stylistics off #1 at Luxy. Roger Whitaker was a late comer in...a bit too middle of the road in those parts! Alex Harvey did a tongue in cheek version of Tom Jones "Delilah". George McCrae returned to the top ten, after a 9 month break. This was his third and final top tenner. The follow up "I Ain`t Lyin" just missed. Typically Tropical hailed from the UK, and were actually a duo. "Barbados" was their only hit. The follow up "Rocket Now" did not take off in the Autumn, and neither did "Ghost Story" at the beginning of 76. One of the duo (Jeffrey Calvert) actually became a pilot later. Adrian Baker sung with the Gunne in 1968. Here he covered the Four Seasons 62 hit, and tried very much to sound like Franki Valli. Thus inspiring a stars on 45 type single in 81 (as Gidea Park) on "Seasons Of Gold". Country was very popular as Billie Jo Spears came around. From Texas, Billie`s real name is Billie Jean Spears. Bay City Rollers got a 2nd #1...for me the best single of the 70s. The Moments got a 2nd hit, after losing their Whatnauts! Linda Carr gave us a bit of soul. In 1976, she became Linda and the Funky Boys. On the other hand, Linda Lewis was probably one of the worst female singers, I have ever heard. Although, spending quite a bit of time in Stage musicals including Lloyd Webber. Susan Cadogan couldn`t quite follow "Hurt So Good", maybe because "Love Me Baby" was the same thing all the way through! Euro holidayers brought back the French "El Bimbo", annoying even more so was the B side "El Bimbo Part 2". Bryan Hyland had a re-issue from 62, actually a double A (though not credited) with "Ginny Come Lately". Gladys Knight was having her most success, following "Try To Remember". More disco served up by KC And The Sunshine Band. Everyone will tell you that Johnny Nash`s version of "Tears On My Pillow" is not the same as Kylie`s 1990 re-make. The words on Johnny Nash`s are very similar though. David Cassidy nor Barry Manilow "Wrote The Songs"...actually it was Brian Wilson of Beach Boys fame. The Cassidy version actually sounds a little like Brian. The Wombles were turning Super, and could even fly..."He`s a hero, and has X-ray eyes". David Bowie was still awaiting a #1 at this point. "Fame" just sneaked into the top 20. The Biddu Orchestra, gave us a disco version of an old piece. Biddu also produced Tina Charles...Tina another one of those bad singers in the realms of the afore mentioned Linda Lewis! Sparks (still looking scarey) were rather on their last legs, until a 79 comeback. Gary Benson`s hit "Don`t Throw It All Away" had featured in the February Song For Europe...though then sung by the Shadows. This was beat by "Let Me Be The One", and came 2nd in Eurovision. The Captain And Toenail said Terry Wogan..."Love Will Keep Us Together" was penned by Neil Sedaka. The Eagles always struggled on the singles front in Britain. The Glitter Band struggled with a Summer type anthem, as the proper Summer 75 anthem and theme to BBC TV`s "Seaside Special", gave Mike Batt a 2nd top 30 hit that week, as of course he was the voice of the Wombles music to.

Just ahead of the singles...Here are 3 "Pops To Flop" next week. The videos courtesy of our friendly neighbourhood Tom. Sounds like the local cat!

Red Light Company - Meccano... a re-issue from last year by London`s alternative rock 5 piece:

Bob Dylan - Jolene...from the album "Together Through Life" (not the Dolly Parton song). Bob selling singles in 2009? No!

Bashy - Your Wish Is My Command...More grime from Ashley Thomas from Chiswick, another flop (I hope)! Only available on download this week:

Biffy Clyro for #1

:w00t:

But it'll realistically have a maximum possible peak of #4 behind Dizzee, David and BEP :( Still, #4 will be their best peak to date, and TGR *needs* that #4 to outpeak Muntains, which is crap and not the real Biffy.

MON THE BIFFY.

Thanks Dave
Looks like a very slow chart again, thanks for posting as usual.
It is quiet before the thunderstorm I'd say! Look at the releases on 31st of August and 6th of September. That's where will be the real battle!
Biffy Clyro will be this years Kings of Leon. (A band who have had a couple of hits before, but will blow up massively with their new material). I can't imagine anything else stopping 'That Golden Rule' at the moment :o (Unless Dizzee/Sugababes/Booty Luv release their downloads a week earlier)

I'm liking the predictive quality of this chart.
