August 19, 200915 yr Author :( Slightly gutted, obviously, but kudos to Burnley. Deserved the win over the 90 minutes, we couldn't get a shot in and their defence was fairly solid in comparison to our shoddy display which gifted them their goal after about a minute of trying to clear :/ Oh well, only 2 games in, its not that important? :kink: Consdering pundits were saying Liverpool had no chance of winning the title after just getting beat by Spurs on Sunday then YES. Although I guess you've got injury worries at the back, but both Liverpool and Chelsea have a few injuries as well to first choice players too.
August 20, 200915 yr I had Burnley down to draw with Man Utd... didn't see them winning though LOL!!!! Think it's times like that when Fergie wishes Real Madrid weren't such c**ts with Ronaldo. Also anyone doubting why Liverpool payed so much for Johnson should watch the game against Stoke. He's exactly the sort of player we needed. 2 games in...Johnson has probably along with Mascherano have been very influential. The focus always gets put on Torres for the goals, but Johnson is exactly the defender we've been searching for, for some time. I would say 'unlucky James', but after the stick some of my mates who support Man United have been giving me, I was absolutely ecstatic.

I know it was only Stoke, but they're a hard team to break down and teams don't like playing against them. The full backs last night were brilliant, and not having attacking full backs is what Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea had an advantage with to break teams down. Mascherano was at his absolute best for me last night, and Lucas was brilliant, that first goal for example, would not have been scored in the way it was if Alonso was playing. I've had a bet on Lucas being Young Player of the Year for this season.

And boy did Lucas need that game to prove he was worthy, and to answer the critics, all those saying Lucas wasn't good enough for Liverpool. Now that Alonso is gone, he has chance to show his full potential - and he is an extremely good player. And, Stoke are a very good side actually, very under-estimated also, so the team as a whole played really well, and more like a team.

I think people just used to get on his back because of his long hair. He can be a little frustrating to watch sometimes, as he's not as direct as Xabi was and doesn't have his passing range. Last season when he came into the team, he was expected to fill in Alonso or Mascherano's boots - and he's neither a great defensive midfielder or an expert passer of the ball, but now he's got his own individuality in the Liverpool team and it's good. He made some mistakes last season (I recall giving a penalty away to Wigan in the closing minutes..) but that was just because of how much he wanted to win the ball and save the 3 points for Liverpool. Thankfully the crowd seems to be getting behind him now.
August 22, 200915 yr OWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN! :w00t: A typical Michael Owen goal, what a way to get off the mark
August 23, 200915 yr 2-1 :cheer: And ain't this a lovely sight    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...ble/default.stm

August 23, 200915 yr True. But seeing as you took 9 points from the identical three fixtures in the Premiership last season you are actually not any better off at this stage. True, I ain't excited yet, long long way to go But its nice to get a good start, recent years we have had shockingly bad starts, the last year of Jol, 2 points from the first 8 games last season under Ramos so its just good to get some early points in the bag as we are notoriously bad starters I don't harbour any aspirations of a premiership or even a CL challenge this year, I will be pleased with a Top 7 finish :)

August 23, 200915 yr Spurs should be there or thereabouts in regards to a top 4 position. I didn't predict that because they always underperform. But just look at your bench today. Even with a few out injured you had Crouch at £9m, Pavluyuchenko at £14m, Bentley at £16m, Naughton at £7m and Hutton at £7m. It's a squad that has probably cost more in player transfers than Arsenal and Liverpool.
August 23, 200915 yr Author Aye Spurs have a good squad. You should be there or thereabouts in regards to Champions League places. Can't be long before Crouch kicks up a fuss though about not starting? But your GK is still a massive massive weak link.
August 24, 200915 yr Can't believe Liverpool are losing 2-0. Against the run of play, mostly. Just heard on Radio 5 that's 3 we've conceded from set plays.
August 24, 200915 yr Liverpool have definitely been better. I hope they lose though, would be exciting and I like Villa. Rafa's being his usual moaning self. 4th official indicates one minute added time (which is a minimum) and the goal was scored towards the end of the second. He might have a point if Reina wasn't timewasting during the minute (which he got booked for).

August 24, 200915 yr Friedel seems to be in fine form, Villa seem to have parked a proverbial bus! Oh and how much longer will we have to hear that Liverpool are going to miss Alonso?? Everytime we are losing or at 0-0, seemingly!
August 24, 200915 yr Friedel seems to be in fine form, Villa seem to have parked a proverbial bus! Oh and how much longer will we have to hear that Liverpool are going to miss Alonso?? Everytime we are losing or at 0-0, seemingly! Which will be pretty often based on this shocking inept performance tonight. We are bankrupt of ideas in midfield passing sideways or backwards. Awful totally awful against a side who lost at home against Wigan & lost against Rapid Vienna. 1-3 Liverpool lost the 2009-10 title when Man City signed Barry and then we lost Alonso to Real Madrid.
August 24, 200915 yr Ryan Babel and Andriy Voronin on to save the game? Might as well have put me on!
August 24, 200915 yr Author Only just turned the game on. Think it's just one of those things unfortunately. The better team doesn't always win, that's football for you. I dare say we would have won had Gerrard not given the penalty away. Just one of those things. I'm too tired to care at the moment.
