Given the lack of chat about the Swimming World Champs, Phelps gettin beat for the first time and the suits causing the sports biggest controversy i'm not surprised in the slightest tbh

I'm really happy that Sanya Richards finally got a major title

Although I want Christine to get it back next time :P

I see the "South African man" won the Woman's 800 metres tonight.

Bill Shankly: "There are only three sports that matter ...... Football, football and football".

I've not really watched the athletics so that's why I didn't create a thread...

Only thing i've watched is Usain Bolt.

I've been watching athletics whenever I've got the chance! Jessica Ennis is a fantastic athlete for us, and Usain Bolt done an incredible run. So, so far it's been pretty good.

I've been watching a hell of a lot of Athletics; and have done since the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

It is probably my 4th favourite Sport behind Football; F1 and Cricket.

Unfortunately all the drug doping scandals mean I have learnt to not fully believe what my eyes are seeing (1980s female East German; USSR & Czechoslavkia athletes; late 1980s US and Canadian sprinters; 1990s Japanese & Chinese long distance runners that come out of nowhere to run breath taking times and then are never heard of again; etc).

Hence I remain guarded in my praise of Usain Bolt, as the Jamaican testing system is incredibly poor compared to the very complex and ridiculous British system that sees British athletes banned on technicalities when they previously were let off.

Tbh though, I've noticed, that in comparison to the other players, the guy is massive! He has a really strong, well built body structure, perfect for sprinting. But you make a valid point, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yes but the IAAF do the drugs tests during the major championships and all the medallists have to be tested asap after they have won.

I feel so sorry for that South African 18 year old girl. She must be so embarrassed. I think it's obvious she's a young girl who had a bit too much testosterone in her body when she was going through puberty. Either that or she is a hermaphrodite, if she does fail the tests then it's not her fault she was brought up as a women and is a woman in her mind.

She was only 18? :o Jesus!.. What happened to her in the end, did she run? I missed it..

yes she won by 2 seconds in a new world lead (best so far this year) We got a bronze by Jenny Meadows, she almost got the silver against the Kenyan who was world champion.

This Morning (20th August) we have 3 men and 1 women in action

Pole Vault - Luke Cutts in pool A (PB: 5.62, SB: 5.62) and Steven Lewis in pool B (PB: 5.75, SB: 5.75) neither a medal hope

800 metres - Michael Rimmer in heat 6 (PB: 1:44.68, SB: 1:46.13) 3 of each heat go through and 3 fastest losers. an outside medal chance

Hammer - Zoe Derham in pool B (PB: 68:63, SB: 68.00) no chance

Afternoon/Evening we have 4 other men and 1 other women

Long Jump - Christopher Tomlinson in pool A (SB: 8.23 PB: 8.29) and Greg Rutherford in pool B (SB: 8.06 PB: 8.26) could both be outside medal chances

110m Hurdles - William Sharman in semi 3 (SB: 13.44 PB: 13.44) top 2 and 2 fastest losers has a chance of getting into the final as top people are under performing

5000m - Mohammed Farah in semi 1 (SB: 13:09.14 PB: 13:07.00) Top 5 and 5 fastest losers should easily get into final and may get a medal

200m - Emily Freeman (SB: 22.79 PB: 22.72) Top 2 and 2 fastest losers has an OK chance of qualifying

 She does look quite masculine, but you can tell when the male athletes are male when they are running and she didn't seem to have such signs of being a male.

my ex brother in law shared a flat at loughborough with seb coe .... so that what awakend my interest as we watched him and he became rather good!

yeah them eastern europeans in the 80's were well dodgy, man-women shot putting etc. hopefully the sport is quite clean now.

as for jenny meadows .... fantastic run to get a bronze, but wtf was she playing at? she should have got the silver! she left it 1 second too late to mount her charge for the line...impressive as it was it was a fraction too late for the silver and if that southafrican 'female' gets disqualified...it would be gold.

athletics is the only sport i really watch (though i catch f1 from time to time), i love it! i really like the european grand prix circuit ... athletics for me is part of summer and i get REALLY impressed by good performances.
It was that bit at 400m to go that cost her the silver.
Did anyone else see Bolt's 200m? Very impressive. Another world record.

Hmm, who knows?

That must be so embarrassing for her though..

The problem with Athletics for me is that both my parents were runners but my little sister is as well. And she's pretty good, so it's non stop athletics at home and i hate it.

It bores me tbh. I also don't understand the times. As a swimmer i would love to swimm 200m in 1:55 but i'd be expected to go a lot further as a runner but i don't know how far.

Bolts 200m new record is the speed i would do a length of a 25m pool in during a warm up.

I just get dead confused and frustrated at constantly hearin times i don't get and names that i don't know. It's annoying how big a part my little sister track career is of my home life. She went to some European thing in Italy the 2nd weekend in July. it was some big competiton, hard to get into or somethin i dunno. Swimming just makes more sense.

To me he looks male tbh.

Hmm, who knows?

I feel really sorry for her tbh, she's only 18 and now the whole world is going to thinks she's a man. It's possible that she's a hermaphrodite, but she's been raised as a woman and it'll be really upsetting for her if the test comes back and says she has XY chromosones, I wouldn't be surprised if she quits the sport.

I would liked to have watched a lot more of this but as I've been at work all the time I've only had time to catch the headlines. Shame. :(

I feel sorry for Semenya but I did find it funny that Caster Semenya is an anagram of "Yes, a secret man"!
