i don't think sales for no.1 matter that much these days, as tracks are being released earlier, songs now climb up and down the chart and stay in the top 40 for much longer, compared to the chart 5 or 6 years ago when records had big sales for the first week, because that was the only time people could get their hands on the single (the week of release), now the chart works in a diffrent way.

I'm not too fussed who gets the #1, either would do I love them both.

 

On one hand - I want Shakira to finally get a #1.

 

But on the other hand - I want Nelly to stay at #1 so she is in the public eye more so it helps her album...

Stuart Maconie on Radio2 this afternoon has just said after playing the single that Lily Allen "Smile" is the fastest selling download in the UK since Gnarls Barkley.

 

Yet it was not inside the Top20 from the last available midweeks - so what is going on?

Maybe Music Week havent included it to surprise us :P

 

I was certain she'd hit 6-10 on dloads this week myself.
