August 26, 200915 yr It needs a few years away if ITV or Sky swoop in for it before a return. It's gone well stale and past it's sell by date. I watched this year's launch show and thought to myself meh, and haven't watched since.
August 26, 200915 yr About time too. Waste of TV time. Bet Ch.4 or Ch.5 pick it up though. Edited August 26, 200915 yr by Crazy Chris
August 26, 200915 yr I've only watched this for 2 series, last year's and this year's but they really grew on me and once last year's ended I was bored every 9+10pm each day. now that they'e ending it after next year I'm gunna be so bored as TV will be so bland. all I can say is, if they're axing it then replace it with something good. like a game show or something.
August 26, 200915 yr I am not surprised one bit. Personally I have really enjoyed this year's series, it has been much better than the previous two (BB9, BB8) in my opinion. I think the USA format would work well over here. It's much simpler and it's more about gameplay. I always watch BBUSA as well as the UK version, it's not a surprise the USA version does so well because there's always something interesting happening every episode. I think it'd work better with 3 episodes a week in the UK too.
August 26, 200915 yr The quotes that best sum up my thoughts are these by BB1's "Nasty" Nick Bateman: I'm sad to see it go for the wrong reasons. I think it can work. You just get new producers in there, go back to the simple, basic house and go back to 10 normal people. Having 20 people in the house just doesn't work. There's too much noise, too much clutter, you can't get to like anyone. Go back to basics, get 10 new people in it, get new production staff in there and you have a show that could go on and on. This is Channel 4's golden goose and I think they've killed it prematurely. Big Brother I, II & III were amongst the greatest TV ever produced IMHO. Because they kept the format simple, had few twists and gimmicks and the producers did not try to manipulate the show. Hell, even Davina was even handed when interviewing the evictees. But the rot started to creep in Series 4, because the shows producers tinkered with the format and which led to a blunder at every turn: Four housemates were nominated on the opening night after the housemates were told to make instant nominations based on first impressions, with every housemate receiving even one nomination facing the public vote; of the four, the entertaining Anouska was evicted one week later who later went on to participate in the Australian Big Brother getting a far better response. One housemate, Cameron Stout, accepted a challenge from Big Brother and discovered it meant spending a week in the Big Brother Africa house (one of the African housemates, Gaetano, spent some time in the UK house in return). There was a surprise double eviction leading to the housemates nominating three of the most entertaining housemates Cameron, Jon Tickle & Federico, a new housemate went into the show mid way through the Welsh slightly psychotic Lisa Jeynes, and the return by evicted housemate (the ever popular geek) Jon Tickle for the last two weeks (he was not eligible to win, though he opted not to tell his housemates this). From that series onwards the shows producers increasingly manipulated the show which for me reached its nadir with the blatant way they manipulated the show in Big Brother 8 (2007) whenever the annoyingly/loved marmite Charley was vulnerable for eviction with the fake eviction when she was near certain to be eliminated. The way they hung Emily out to dry for using the N word, even though she did not use it in a derogatory manner. Yet ignored, and did not televise Charley and Nicky using the same word (which Charley used a reported 73 times in the house, yet not one of those incidents was shown by Channel 4). Whilst Charley similarly called Gerry a paedophile and physically assaulted Brian, yet the show's producers never kicked her out prematurely. This was the last series of Big Brother I properly watched, because it had ceased to be the great programme and TV format it was in the beginning.
August 26, 200915 yr this year is the first time i havent watched BB, and it's just because i missed the first 5 or so weeks. It'll be sad to see it go 1]because i've got to find something else to obsess about over summer seeing as Bones airs Sept-May and 2]this forum gets a lot of traffic from BB and it's gonna be dead in here over summer
August 26, 200915 yr I will miss it terribly over the summer when it does go, but i wont worry yet as we still have it for next year so at least the fans(AND ME) have that to look forward to.
August 26, 200915 yr Five, Sky1 and ITV2 have ruled out bidding for Big Brother when it becomes available in 2011, reports The Guardian. The long-running reality series, which was axed by Channel 4 earlier today, is apparently yet to receive interest from any major UK TV channel. Five's controller Richard Woolfe said that the format does not fit the "new direction" in which he is steering the broadcaster. "Big Brother has been an amazing phenomenon but, in terms of the new direction Five is taking, we are looking for big original ideas. Big Brother now needs to be off our screens for a few years before anyone can consider reinventing it and bringing it back," he said. Sky1 has also dismissed a potential pickup, with channel controller Stuart Murphy saying: "We talk to Endemol all the time but aren't discussing Big Brother with them." ITV has reportedly previously expressed interest in the reality format.
August 26, 200915 yr Yeah, but it's official this time, it's been posted on the Big Brother website and everything. A bit gutted really, it's still my favourite reality show. Don't really get the people saying 'about time', if you don't watch it and the media are ignoring it lately, what difference does it make to you if it's being shown or not? There's plenty of shows I find past their sell by date but them being axed wouldn't be a cause for celebration, it's only TV and I don't watch them. Also don't get how Big Brother gets boring, every year they put different people in and different personalities creat different vibes each year. It's not exactly some long running series with rehashed storylines and actors. I guess the sheer number of tasks there have been over the years makes it hard for them to come up with new ideas, but that's the only problem to me. I'd love a new low key series on a digital channel, with a different format (perhaps that of the USA version) I think that'd be fresh. I agree wholeheartedly with this. People always moan about it being boring (the only real boring ones were 4 and 8 imo) and I don't think it ever is, they might just not watch it properly! The about time comments are so predictable and tired too, no ones forcing you to watch it! Anyway I'm gutted too. It's by far my favourite Reality TV show and summer strangely won't feel complete without it LOL. :( I think I may audition for next year seeing as it's the last proper one, not that I have a chance of getting in but y'know.
August 27, 200915 yr Good riddance to atrocious trash television! Just a shame the decision was about 9 years overdue.
August 29, 200915 yr well we all knew it was gonna happen I'll sort of miss it but not as much as I would of years ago.
August 29, 200915 yr I think its better that it ends now instead of dragging on so I'm glad, this years has been the 2nd worst ever after BB4
