August 27, 200916 yr People are overly-hard on the radio 1 playlist. 7 of the top 10 best-selling albums in the UK so far this year are by male artists. U2 are in that top 10 so why shouldn't their single be played? Clearly there's demand for their music regardless of whether the singles themselves actually sell well. An act like U2 just so happens not to have a single-buying fanbase, lately at least. The playlist still contains a great balance of indie, rock, pop, dance and R&B music. We may prefer the latter three genres but they have to cater to everybody.
August 27, 200916 yr Like Jark says, U2 may not have had a big single this year, but their album's still done reasonably well. More so than Kelly Clarkson. Which is why they get playlisted, and she doesn't.

August 27, 200916 yr Author well perhaps, but how do you explain others like Nickelback? They were getting A-listed with flop singles and the album wasnt selling either. Not to mention they stayed A-listed long after it flopped.

Not to mention they stayed A-listed long after it flopped. But where is the rulebook that states they may only playlist successful music? If they only did that then no artists without commercial success would ever get it, and for every Nickelback there's a Santigold who they also supported despite a flop debut single and album.
August 27, 200916 yr Author That's why I mentioned they do playlist what they like too, not just popular acts. They just happen to like more indie and rock acts rather than pop basically.
August 27, 200916 yr Would have thought LoveGame would debut on the B-list automatically but the longer the airplay rises and carries out the better GaGa will peak in her physical week. :cheer: YAY @ La Roux and The Veronicas :o though Noisettes and Florence should both be A-listed in place of some of the $h!t on there. Bat For Lashes and Ladyhawke NEED to be playlisted soon as well, would be criminal if neither get playlisted and I'm assuming that's how both will turn out ;(
August 27, 200916 yr Its nice that r1 playlist acts like mini viva and the saturdays because a few years ago, i don't think they would have given them the light of day.
August 28, 200916 yr OMG...A LISTED Mika...wow...very happy at last...will he be heavily played before the single released???
August 29, 200916 yr How many listeners does Radio 1extra get? I think Jade is A-Listed on there. And there is still hope for "My Man". It has been played on Radio 1 a couple of times (I've heard it on Saturday nights), and she is being interviewed on Radio 1 at 7:45pm tonight. Plus, she performed the single on GMTV. Where in the charts would she need to get before they playlist her? I hope Agnes gets sent to Eurovision next year by Sweden, just to see if Radio 1 playlist her after that. I think it is unfair if they don't playlist Eurovision, it's not like the contest is unpopular in the UK. "On & On" is released in the UK soon, so will they be playlisting that soon, since "Release Me" did well in the charts.

August 30, 200916 yr On & On is not being released. Ohh, wikipedia had been giving a release date for it and said she was doing a new music video, but now wikipedia has removed the UK release date. So is that it for Agnes in the UK? :(
