Noel Gallagher has announced he is quitting rock band Oasis because he can no longer work with his brother Liam.

Noel, the founding member of the band, made the statement on the band's website. He said a series of rows with his brother led to the decision.

The guitarist said: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight.

"People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."

"Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan," he added.

'Gutted'

Earlier it was announced the band had cancelled their second gig in the space of a week because of "an altercation within the band".

They had been expected to play the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, but fans at the concert were told by the support band that Oasis would not be performing.

Many of the crowd thought it was a joke - until screens at either side of the stage showed the message "as a result of an altercation within the band, the Oasis gig has been cancelled".

Oasis fans used Twitter to respond to the news that lead guitarist Noel had quit the band.

'Worst day ever'

PsychedelicAdam posted: "Noel Gallagher leaves Oasis? Gutted, no more Oasis then I guess, they were one of my favourite bands."

Wolvolass said: "I feel sick, sooo many good memories and gigs seeing Oasis over the years."

MattGriffin added: "This is the worst day ever."

On Sunday the band had also cancelled their headline slot at the V Festival in Essex after Liam was diagnosed with viral laryngitis.

They performed in Stafford on Saturday but the singer was advised by doctors not to perform again.

Clue: Liam Gallagher has a child with a popstar. Their band has recently got back together again. But do you remember when they first got back together?

DS are saying they've split :w00t:

Just when I thought this night was an epic fail, we get this fantastic news. NEVER COME BACK OASIS.

$h!t! :o

I do admit to liking some Oasis songs, it's a shame Noel had to leave!

[Although I admit their recent stuff hasn't been the best...]

Noel was always better than Liam. I can't stand Oasis, but I wouldn't mind hearing solo material from Noel tbh..
I am pretty sure they will be working on a new album within a few years. This has happened several times before. Having seen them live in June, they are still without a doubt one of the best live bands on the planet imo, and their last album was their strongest in over a decade, although tbh, I would really love a Noel Gallagher solo album :D

I've liked many of their songs like 'Supersonic', 'Champagne Supernova', 'Wonderwall' and 'Falling Down'.

But good luck to Noel, even though I don't like him. :P

Gutted, Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger are Classics.

Knowing them they be back when they patch up their differences.

One of the most overrated bands ever, I'm glad.

The notion of them splitting permanently seems a bit too good to be true, they'll come rolling back one day like the proverbial bad penny.

I keep reading this as "Noel quits Deal"

But I'm glad they've split, I mean they haven't done much good recently the only songs of theirs i have bought recently have been remixes.

Now for The Enemy to split and I'll be happy.

Aah it is probably some row they had under the influence of drugs, give it a few days they will make up again and Oasis willl be back

Although I hope they don't get back they been $h!t since the Morning Glory album bar about 2 songs

Don't Look Back In Anger and maybe Little By Little are probably the only songs of theirs that have survived incessant overplay and are actually still good...IIRC, even Liam (or Noel, I forget which) despises Wonderwall these days, and the fact it's held up as a modern classic only symbolises how hideously overrated Oasis are.

Oh, actually, scratch that. I do also love The Importance of Being Idle. Still, for one of the 'best' bands of recent times, to have only three songs which remain good today only stands testament to the fact that they have been viciously overplayed and overrated for a long time now.

I love Oasis but I don't think it's sad that Noel has left.

Oasis have more or less run their course.

Now obviously Noel will record a solo album which could be really good. The question is what will happen to the rest of Oasis.

They have enough songwriters left in the band that they could continue especially if Andy Bell and Gem Archer step upto the mark.

It sounds from what Noel said that he was getting no support from management and the rest of the band so maybe they will all stick together.

Oasis have been nothing short of tawdry since 'Roll With It'. Only 'Supersonic', 'Shakermaker', 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' and 'Some Might Say' from their singles would still get a play with me, add in the majority of Definitely Maybe, a few early B-sides and a generous couple from Morning Glory and a couple of the Andy Bell-penned tracks from the end of Don't Believe the Truth and that's a 15 year career summed up in one disc for me.

They never recovered from having their first number one single really.

Noel's solo stuff will be equally as good as Paul Weller's though - make of that statement what you will!

I don't think they'll get back together.

I only found they'd split up (well Noel Gallagher WAS Oasis) through rumours.

'Little By Little' as one of their top 3? What awful taste. :( I would say I don't like Oasis but it wouldn't get near a top 10.

In all fairness, I'm not familiar enough with their earlier material, so all I have to go on are the 'classics' that are overplayed that I know the names of. I suppose Roll With It was quite good, although Country House was far superior.

If they're so overplayed then how come you can only name four songs?

Oh well…

Many oasis haters here…

Imo , it s unfair to talk only about 3-4 good oasis tracks in the last years.

In the recent years oasis released a few good albums and singles.

they never wrote a “definitely maybe” but c mon get over it …who can?

they are still better than most of all these overhyped nme.pitchfork.bands.

btw, i can name more that 2 or 3 (post “be here now” era) oasis songs that could easily make a GREAT best of …enjoy

Go let it Out (uk#1)

The Hindu Times (uk#1)

Waiting For The Rapture (album track)

The Importance of Being Idle (uk#1)

Songbird (uk#3)

I m Outta Time (uk#11)

Who put the weight of the world on my shoulders (Non album track)

Lyla (uk#1)

The Shock of the Lighting (uk#3)

Gas Panic (album track)

Let there be Love (uk#2)

Born On A different Cloud (album track)

Falling down (uk#10)

Its so easy to make another list …and another list with excellent oasis tracks.

i really love oasis and i hope that they will come back cause Noel's songs are always better with Liam's voice...til then I suppose that Liam has a lot of things to think.i hope.
