Because of negative comments, I think soon, there will hardly be new countries to join the contest. Because they will feel unwelcomed.

It's just my opinion in the end of the day, I find the contest very fun (so far) but denying the obvious isn't my thing really. Plus i don't find any comments negative, we can't all be happy about the songs or/and post only about songs we like. It'd be BORING to the greatest extent.

But this is only my point of view anyway.

I agree Pavel but I think you've misunderstood me. What I mean is really not nice to say (and I found many similar posts) that the contest is low quality or the songs are $h!t etc.

 

I wasn't meant that people can't say their opinions about songs, but you can make your criticism nicely that you don't hurt the other one who has chosen that particular song ;) (This is not the iTunes thread afterall :lol:)

(I feel like Marcus in BB LOL :heehee: ) I don't think not saying anything unpleasant is better, especially if you need to compare this contest to other earlier ones, the way in which BJSC evolutions, improves, or the other way round. To elaborate on mistakes done, things that can be improved and new approaches or ideas... IMO if people will only be talking sweet lies on contest's quality or some people's choices - everything will end in the 'fatal error', propbably the dusk of the contest, I'd really wouldn't want to participate in in all honesty. 'Cheapness' and 'female electropop' all around would there be. This doesn't look appealing tbh, at least for me :magic: Plus, i doubt most of the people will bother if i go into their thread saying 'OMG what a rubbish you've sent.' :lol: Pink rabbits all around, girls in barbie clothes, sweet talking, politeness everywhere. What a wonderful world. FML actually. BITCHING ALWAYS SPICES THINGS UP A LITTLE BIT. And everything turns back to normal. :dance:

Not the strongest semi I've seen, but it wasn't too bad. Although I haven't found a song from this contest I love as much as I did Kongulo, Dollhouse and Silly Boy

agree with Pavel actually, it's not about being negative or hurting people's feelings, comparing it to past contests is only natural I guess...Ben (Mdice) and Pavel have both expressed a dislike of my entry but I'm not particularly bothered and don't feel like it makes it any less fun, you can't please all of the people all of the time, I welcome any comments about my entries or potential entries, it's not like it's my song, I'm just borrowing it (as Shoat famously noted in the Rate :heehee:)

 

Now if I was sending my own song to the contest, as I almost did in BJSCI before coming to my senses, I might take criticism a bit more personally, but I couldn't care less what people think of Anna Abreu/Example/Hafdis Huld/anyone else...as long as I like the song!

In all fairness there hasn't been specific naming of the songs people have disliked.

 

Saying that the contest doesn't seem to be as good as the last one isn't a bad thing. Last month was an amazingly high quality contest, not every month can be that good.

Pavel, I understand what you're saying, and have absolutely no problem with that. But I think you're quibbling my words :D

TBH (and replying also to Gooddelta) I've never seen any negative comments (negative means here: the post itself have a negative feeling, not the content: for example negative feeling: "what a $h!t semi", negative content: "this and that song is not the strongest from this artist") from you or Ben or Rich. I meant those posts that are fool of negative feelings in general (what I wrote above). That makes me feel I have a $h!t taste. That makes me 1. thinking about quitting the contest, 2. searching for music I don't like but could appeal to everyone just to show that I'm as good as everyone else. This is the sweet lie imo.

 

What you wrote is totally OK. And I never said you should say to someone that a song is good, if it's not. Just there is a difference that you say, your songchoice is crap or your song is not the best of this artist. There is no sweet lies. About bitching: You can easily bitch around with the guys you know, but there are also other members, newer members, who can misunderstand that ;)

I always welcome the comments too and I like especially Zech's rates, because I don't know him at all, he's totally new to everyone and is not (yet) affected of everyone else. Although he always give my songs bad ratings :heehee:

Most of it turns out to be pretty epic. Some of it just turns out to be utter ear rape, thats what you need to prepare for. The disappointment.

To be honest if I listen to 23 songs which takes me an hour and a half and an hour of that is spent listening to stuff I would immediately swtich off if ever it came on the TV/Radio then I feel I should say so. People are always saying how 'AMAZING' the quality is, so why not the other way around? If I'm going to think about quitting the contest then I'm going to say why...

of course not Ben, you're more than entitled to express your opinion as is everybody else :o nobody will mark down your song for saying how you feel (I should hope anyway)...you've raised some very valid points ^_^

 

I just said I hadn't discovered as many great songs as last month, maybe because they are not to my taste, maybe because I already know half of the songs on offer this month...this is not to say that people should feel that they have made bad choices, if you are happy with your own song why should it matter what anybody else thinks? We are just as much entitled to express our feelings about songs here as in the pop forum or the chart forum in my opininon, nobody should feel ashamed or stifled to raise a point, the more discussion the better. If people find that they are getting upset because somebody expresses a dislike for their entry I really don't know what to suggest...you can't be expected to please 50 different wide and varying music tastes and nor should you have to try

i don't normally like listenin to the recap before i start, i normally save it for a bad patch of tracks so i can see if i should cut my losses do something else for a bit or keep going for a gem.

I know that realisitcally if I like half of the songs in a contest then it's a good contest as my music taste doesn't fit the contest and I know there will always be songs that I don't like in it, however not since my first couple of contests have I listened to a group of songs that I've felt were so bad. It's rare I can't find 10 songs I don't like enough to vote for, I know I've often complained about low quality but I've always found 10 songs that have grown on me enough to want to give them points, in both semis and finals. This time however, my 4-1 points I can't say I like at all, and none of them would've scored anything in any semi in the last year... It's rare I have a 0/10 (only Alcazar from the whole of the last contest (including both semis) but I could see the appeal and why it came second). This time there are three songs I think are beyond abysmal though and I will be speechless if they qualify.
